Once Crazy, directed by LeeAnne Lowry, is a short film about a man in solitary confinement. Certain deliverables were needed for people who donated to the film. The products sent to backers included a poster, magnets, stickers and a DVD of the film. Stills from Once Crazy were used and the idea of isolation was the driving forces behind the design.

Artrageous Friday’s, a quarterly event in Columbia, Missouri, is a time when the community can come together and appreciate the art in the town. The goal of this project was to create a poster that combined a famous piece of art with a recognizable Columbia landmark, thus The Two Frida’s by Frida Kahlo was placed into the world of Stephens College. The design was selected for the 2014 season.

To make the information about unpaid internships more digestible, an infographic was created. It explains the effects of paid versus unpaid internships through graphs and bullet points. The information was taken from a research paper.

The internship, even though it includes actual operation of the facilities of the employer, is similar to training which would be given in an educational environment.

The internship experience is for the benefit of the intern.

The intern does not displace regular employees, but works under close supervision of existing staff.

The employer that provides the training derives no immediate advantage from the activities of the intern; and on occasion its operations may actually be impeded.

The intern is not necessarily entitled to a job at the conclusion of the internship.

The employer and the intern understand that the intern is not entitled to wages for the time spent in the internship.

Two interns filed a lawsuit against Fox Searchlight Pictures in September 2011. In June 2013 the Federal Court in New York decided that legal requirements of an educational environment and the company benefiting from their work on “Black Swan” was violating the law. Harpar’s Bazaar and Conde Nast have also been sued.

Citizen Jane Film Festival takes place in Columbia, Missouri and programs only films directed by women. A part of the festival that many patrons enjoy is the merchandise. “Independent Film by Independent Women” is a tagline for Citizen Jane and is a phrase that many people appreciate wearing. It was printed on light blue, green and charcoal shirts in navy and gray as well as in white on a blue hoodie. The volunteer shirt was created to showcase a woman as a camera operator. The theme of the 2014 festival was dreams and the deconstructed quality gives it a dream-like feeling.

The original content, photography, cover and spread were created as a mock-up redesign for Parenting Magazine. Adding more white space to the magazine allows the readers to focus on the content. The spread focuses on the stages of motherhood from pregnancy to age six.

If your youngster didn’t experience the ever horrifying “Terrible Two’s” be prepared to deal with the emotions at this stage. Your child understands what kind of authority you have now so it can be a challenge to make sure they know whose boss. As a mom, you can give your child a bit more freedom by letting them dress themselves. Setting up play dates is a good idea, so your child can begin to learn how to interact with others and it’s a good time for you to socialize.

This is the time when you really need to step up the authority because your child is beginning to understand actions and consequences. Many children enjoy challenges at this age and take pride in solving problems. You can help them build their confidence in achieving things by giving them small tasks to do like writing their name by themselves.

The Community Impact Results of 2013 was created and sent to donors. Information about how and where funds were being allocated was condensed so people could get a sense of where their money was going. It focuses on the four areas of education, income, health and safety net. The Community Impact Through Community Investment guide was a 32 page newsprint magazine created to give more detailed information about how donations were being allocated. It included information about each agency that United Way gives money to, organizations they have created and information about staff and board members. The magazine was inserted in the Columbia Tribune newspaper.

Medium is a magazine that focuses on the art in Mid-Missouri. Since the Midwest is not typically thought of as an artistic area of the country, this magazine would serve the purpose of showing those nationwide what the area has to offer. It would focus on fine art, like painting and drawing as well as fashion and filmmaking. Each issue includes a section on an emerging artist and an events section. It was created to have an elegant and intriguing mood.
