These activities will incorporate all academic areas. If you are unable to complete an activity for that day, please do it when it is convenient for your family, but try to complete it by the end of the week. Daily activities should be completed in the order they are listed. If you would like to complete both Choice #1 & Choice #2 activities of the day, that is optional. Please do what works best for your child and family. Friday is Family Fun Day. Use this flexible day to complete an enrichment activity of your choice! This digitized initiative is intended to provide you with an additional non-print option for completing work, as well as an easier way to submit work to your teacher. Please contact your teacher with questions. Any activity that has a digital template (editable copy) to use in your Google Classroom has been noted and highlighted in YELLOW. By the end of this week, Grade 2 students will be able to Retell stories and determine the central message, lesson, or moral of folktales from around the world. Locate and analyze information on the physical features, resources, and people of a country outside of the United States. Subtract within 1,000 using concrete models/drawings and strategies based on place value, and understanding that sometimes it is necessary to compose or decompose tens or hundreds. Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes. Identify triangles, squares, rectangles, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.

Remote Learning Plan Directions:   ❏ Monday-Thursday : Students will read the Morning Message and then complete the

Monday, June 1, 2020   Interdisciplinary Lesson: What is a Folktale?  

Morning Message: Happy Marvelous Monday! Monday Message  Have you ever wanted to learn more about another country? You are in luck this week! We will be learning all about  Folktales that are from di�erent countries. You will be picking your favorite country and working on and adding to a  fact sheet throughout the week. Get ready for an adventure! Let’s see where our travels take us!

❏ Today, complete the World map by marking your country’s location on the map and noting the  area/region. You will be working on this ALL WEEK, so do not turn it in until you are complete!    

Math:  ❏ There were 471 spider eggs in the egg sac. 195 eggs hatched. How many eggs are left to hatch?   ❏ Practice 3-digit subtraction with regrouping . Print PDF link, use plain paper, OR use the editable copy in Google classroom!

Tuesday, June 2, 2020   Interdisciplinary Lesson: What is a Myth?   

Morning Message: Happy Terrific Tuesday! Tuesday Message   There are many types of stories within the Folktale genre. Today we are learning about myths  and listening to myths from Africa and North America!

Writing & Social Studies:  ❏ Today, you will continue your culture report. You will be researching “Just the  

Facts” where you will list the language, food, sports, and animal that your  country is known for. Use the resources you found for your country.   

❏ Complete the “Just the Facts” section on your PDF print out, or complete the  google slide.   

 

Math:  ❏ The Somerset library has 125 more myth books than the Swansea library. If the  

Somerset library has 403 myth books, how many does the Swansea library have? Show  your work for how you solved the problem.

Morning Message: Happy Wonderful Wednesday! Wednesday Message   Today, we are learning about fables. These are short stories that are meant to teach people a lesson.

meaning. An example in each section is done for you.  Writing & Social Studies:  ❏ Learn about the flag of the United States. Read / Listen to The American Flag on myON. (To  

access enter School: Read at Home , username: readnow , password: myon)  ❏ Now it is time to research the flag for your country. Use the following resource to find the flag for  

your country. Country flags of the world with images/names . Complete the “Flag” section of your  culture report.   

❏ Clothing is part of the culture of a country. Record clothes native to your country. Complete the  “Costume” section of your culture report.   

Math:  ❏ We have been reading and learning about flags. Look at the flag for the country you are learning  

about. Can you identify what shapes are on it? List what shapes you see and how many of each  there are. Use the Geometric Shapes Poster to help you.

and circle the adjective (describing word). You will then create your own original sentence with a  noun and adjective!

Thursday, June 4, 2020  Interdisciplinary Lesson: What is a Fairy Tale?   

Morning Message: Happy Think About It Thursday! Thursday Message   Once upon a time, in Somerset, second grade children were impressing their teachers by working hard  every day. Today you will explore fairytales. One is Swahili from Africa and the other is English from  Great Britain. We know you will enjoy these tales and live happily ever after.

Reading:  ❏ What is a Fairy Tale? Click here to Read / Click here to Listen .    ❏ Read The Heart of a Monkey (Swahili Fairytale) Click for Audio   ❏ After reading The Heart of a Monkey , complete the following Cause and E�ect activity.  

Read the “e�ect” and draw or write the “cause”.   

Writing & Social Studies:  ❏ Today, you will finish your Culture Report by writing 5 cool facts about your country.  

Please include things that you think a reader would find interesting about your country.  Make sure that you write in complete sentences.   

❏ When you are done, check over your entire report (Google slides OR paper copy) that  you have been working on all week. Then, submit your final project to your teacher.   

 

Math:  ❏ Listen to Tortoise and the Hare - Fables by SHAPES - from La Fontaine's "Hare and  

Tortoise" . See if you can count how many di�erent kinds of shapes there are throughout  the video.   

❏ Practice sorting 2-dimensional shapes according to their attributes. Sort 2-D Shapes  Print PDF link OR use the editable copy in Google classroom!
