Why is the Liaison SO

important?• The SL is our primary contact person for the school.

• The SL assists with getting the word out there about

the program and making sure that the program is

full.

• The SL is there to help coaches with getting oriented

with the school and assist in handling discipline

issues.

• The SL also helps get the word out about the Lollipop

Run including assisting with getting transportation

for the girls to the event.

Pre Season

Responsibilities

Before the season starts

• Secure practice space for GOTR® for 1 hour and 15 minutes two days per week

• Make sure you have a space for the coach box, snacks and materials at school

• Figure out schedule with GOTR office.

– Why is this important?

• Will we be doing online or paper registrations or both?

Girl Recruitment

• Distribute registration materials and go out of their way to make sure the program is full. We can help, but you need to ask and give proper notice

• Collect registration and scholarship forms, payments

• Follow up with parents regarding payments

Page 15: Gotr presentation site liaison f11

Ongoing Responsibilities

• Provide staff and coaches with the completed team rosters by the end of the first week of practice.

• Mail in all completed registration forms and payment to the Girls on the Run office on the first Friday after the first week of practice

• We would prefer online registration but it does depend on each site

• Assist with collecting payment. Only give program t-shirts to girls with all of their information returned and payment collected. Talk to coaches about this (we will be talking to them as well).

• GOTR® staff will send communication via newsletters and reminder emails to liaisons. Please read, check and respond when necessary. Provide ongoing communication and feedback to staff

• If there are changes in the schedule please inform the staff and coaches ASAP.

Page 16: Gotr presentation site liaison f11

Ongoing Responsibilities

• Let Marya know of any participant cancellations from the program.

• Maintain regular communication with coaches regarding program and facility, school closure dates, early dismissals or any behavioral issues

• At challenging schools, the site liaison will need to make themselves available to assist coaches with behavioral issues

• Identify language barriers; notify coordinator when assistance is needed

• If not a coach, attend at least one on-site GOTR® practice to ensure things are running smoothly, and that girls and coaches are having fun

• Assist coaches in identifying and reserving space for end of season party on the last session

• *If not on-site, please designate a day-to-day contact (i.e., a school secretary)

Leading up to Lollipop

We want the Lollipop to be an everyone event

• Help create camaraderie and excitement at the school or site

around the Lollipop Event. Help put flyers around the site to

help promote the run.

– Speak to teachers, parents and other students to encourage school

participation. Speak to PTA, staff meeting and all school assemblies

about the race and encourage everyone to participate.

• Assist coaches in finding running buddies to participate with

girls in the race.

• Assist coaches to ensure that each girl gets to the Lollipop 5k

Run; help arrange car pools with parents if needed

Page 18: Gotr presentation site liaison f11

Shoe Program

• We only receive a certain number of shoes from our

national office.

• Fleet Feet is only the distributer of shoes they do not

donate shoes.

• Shoes are not guaranteed for each girl; shoe

distribution is based on several factors: Some of the factors in determining need for shoes:

Income level of the girl’s family.

Girl has received shoes in past seasons

Girl does not have ANY type of athletic shoe to participate in the program.

Page 19: Gotr presentation site liaison f11

Process to Receive Shoes

• The coaches will assess which girls need shoes by sensitively asking them

if there is a need.

• The coaches or site liaisons will send the shoe sizes via the “Shoe Request

Form” to Marya in the main office no later than 2 weeks after the season

starts.

Shoe requests are not guaranteed. GOTR reserves the right to decline

requests due to above mentioned criteria.

When filling out shoe size, remember to mark up ½ a size larger than

the girl’s regular shoe size.

Shoes are given on First Come First Served bases-so coaches/liaisons

who get these in earlier do get the sizes they need.

• GOTR office will send approved requests to New Balance

• GOTR office will receive shoes within approximately 2 weeks of order

• GOTR and site will discuss best way to get shoes to girls/site
