5 Themes of Geography
• Absolute location/Relative location• Place• Region
• Human/Environment• Movement
Location, Location, Location
• Absolute Location- The exact LOCATION on Earth using Latitude and Longitude coordinates
LongitudeLATITUDE
Location, Location, Location cont.
• Relative Location- A location of a place in relation to another place (i.e. south or downhill).
Example: Galveston, TX is just south of Houston, TX.
Place
• Place- A place is an area that is defined by everything in it. All places have features that give them personality and distinguish them from other places.
Region• Region- An area that is defined by certain
similar characteristics. Those unifying or similar characteristics can be physical, natural, human, or cultural.
Human Environment Interaction• Human/ Environment- How humans interact
with the environment
&
• How the environment responds to that reaction
Movement
• Movement- Travel of people, goods, and ideas from one place to another, Immigration & Migration

• Discuss with a partner standing next to you something you like that came from another country………
• Example- Types of food, clothing brands, cars, cell phones…..
