Dave and Melissa Timbs
Happy 4th of July to everyone. Throw some steaks, ribs, hamburgers or hotdogs on the grill,
make some macaroni or potato salad, some baked beans, a great dessert, then invite family or
friends to celebrate our Independence of living in the greatest county on earth. We are all lucky to
be Americans. Speaking of being lucky . . . . . We are lucky to belong to the greatest motorcycle
organization there is too. There are other motorcycle organizations out there, but I challenge
each of you to find one like GWRRA. No, I’m not talking Phoenix. I’m talking MEMBERS. The
members, the chapters, the district, and last but certainly not least, Region A (the best region in
GWRRA). I know what you’re saying . . . “ Dave, there is no more Region A”. Details, details!
I’ve been infected, and I’m glad I have. As Jim Jackson says, “ There’s the GWRRA way, and
there’s the Region A way (the right way). So, to summarize what I started, enjoy our Independ-
ence Day. The greatest country, the greatest motorcycle organization, the greatest region, the
greatest district, and certainly the greatest chapter (SC-J). Not to be arrogant. I hope each and
every chapter director feels the same way about their own chapter. It’s called pride.
The chapter has been very busy this last month. Actually, Chapter J is always fairly busy. Be-
sides Meet & Greets, Dessert Socials, and Rides, we have been attempting to participate in
Chapter Visitation. This past month we went to visit Chapter R, our newest chapter in South Car-
olina. Chapter R has started something great. Lots of chapter’s give away door prizes, and en-
courage others that visit them to donate door prizes. However, Chapter R has requested that in
lieu of door prizes, everyone bring a stuffed animal. They are collecting these stuffed animals,
and will give them to a children’s charity at the end of the year. Is that a great idea, or what. Can
you just imagine the looks on the faces of those kids when they get their stuffed animal? This is
just another reason why GWRRA (or other motorcycle organizations) are so great. All the charity
organization’s to give to, and help out! Especially in your own community. This is why the Chap-
ter J Team chose to utilize what Wreaths Across America offered to us. Not only are we able to
take part in, and provide wreaths to veterans at the Florence National Cemetery each year, but
because of WAA’s system, we can earn additional funds to put toward a local charity, and help a
child and/or family have a Christmas that they wouldn’t have otherwise. What a great opportunity
to do so much good for others. It gives me cold chills, and brings a tear to my eye every time I
think about it. It really breaks my heart when I think about any child, any where doing without. I
have a soft spot when it comes to children and animals. Neither one should ever be mistreated or
done wrong. Adults do enough of that to each other. No sense for a child or animal to have to
suffer. Ok, enough of the soap box for this article.
I hope everyone has a great 4th of July, and I look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming
chapter gathering next Saturday, 7 July 2018 at Denny’s.
Until next time, Dave & Melissa

First thing, we send lots of hugs and prayers to Judy Stone and her family. GWRRA has truly
shown the true meaning of friends and family with the support shown at the visitation and fu-
neral of Phil Stone. We’ve never been prouder to be part of an organization.
June was a busy month! Of course all events involved eating, no surprise there. Between our
eat n greet, ice cream social and trip to the Pelican’s baseball game and ride to Chapter R.,
we have probably added a few pounds! Please keep the ideas coming of places to
go and things to do, all suggestions are welcomed.
July is amongst us and we just had our monthly staff meeting. I’ll tell you we have been work-
ing hard with planning and pulling ideas together for you. David keeps us on track (or at
least tries), to make that the calendar is planned months in advance, and that there is some-
thing for everyone to participate in.
Happy Independence Day!!
Independence Day, also referred to as the Fourth of July or July Fourth, is a federal holiday in the United States
commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The Continental Congress de-
clared that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as a new nation, the United States of America, and
were no longer part of the British Empire. The Congress actually voted to declare independence two days earlier,
on July 2.

This month sure has gone by fast. We’ve had graduations and family get-togethers as well as chapter events to keep us busy, and time flies when you’re having fun. On Saturday, June 2nd, we had our regular chapter meeting; although we had no visitors that evening, we had a great member turnout. On Thursday, June 14th, we had our monthly Meet ‘N Greet at DiCarlo’s Pizza in Myrtle Beach. We had 18 in attendance for great food and good company. Thanks to Barry French for planning this outing.
Lynne French arranged for our group to attend a Pelican’s Game on Sunday, June 17th. What a great time we had. The Pelicans lost, but the fireworks were great!
We had an ice cream social on Thursday, June 21st. Bill Dunaway planned this get-together at Old Fash-ioned Ice Cream in Surfside Beach; always a hit with their half price banana splits.
Our chapter visited Chapter R in Orangeburg, SC on Saturday, June 23rd, it was their double points month. Afterwards some of the chapter stopped by Herb and Kathy Anderson’s home in Georgetown for a party to congratulate Kathy on her retirement.
Watch your e-mails for rides, ice cream socials, and meet ‘n greets coming up. If you’re not there, you’re missing all the fun. And please, if you have a suggestion for rides or activities you would like to do, let us know. It’s not necessary that you lead the ride, just give us an idea for an outing you would enjoy.
Don’t forget our meeting Saturday, July 7th. We’ll see you there.
CHAPTER J IS NUMBER 1 , CAUSE CHAPTER J IS HAVING FUN ! ! !
Ride safe.

Phil Stone was a great friend, mentor, and leader. We will miss his knowledge, his corny jokes, and
his friendship. Please remember Judy, their family and friends in your quite moments.
This summer has come on fast and HOT. Can’t believe June has been so miserable. It doesn’t
make for the best riding weather. Seems like all we want to do is stay in under the A/C. If you ride,
work outside, or just spend time on the beach or doing other outdoor activities, please, please stay
hydrated.
Your Chapter Team has been busy planning some upcoming events for your fun and pleasure.
In addition to our monthly gatherings and dinner and ice cream socials, we have a pool party, a din-
ner RIDE, and some other great times coming your way. Please watch your emails for the FUN.
The next big GWRRA event coming up for us is Wing Ding in Knoxville, August 28 to Septem-
ber 1. If you haven’t already planned to be there, what are you waiting for? It is only every few years
that Wing Ding is close enough for us to make the trip to or from in one day, and this is one of those
years. For those who are looking for vendors…this is the place to be. After Wing Ding, we have our
trip to Maggie Valley and Wings Over the Smokies the end of September and then our District Thrill n
Chill Campout in Santee State Park the end of October. Please make every effort to join us on these
excursions.
If you are traveling and staying in motels, don’t forget to save the complimentary toiletries for
Ronald McDonald House (of course you can also donate any purchases on their needed item list). We
do plan a ride over to visit and have lunch in November. Also remember we are selling Wreaths
Across America. All you have to do is ask your friends, family, or businesses you frequent to help
sponsor this non-profit by purchasing a wreath for $15.00. And we will have a donation bucket at our
gatherings for any spare change you may have to contribute to these wreaths.
As we approach the 242nd Anniversary of our Nation’s independence, we give thanks for the
many who have defended our freedoms. So as you celebrate Independence Day remember it is not
just about the hotdogs, the fireworks, and the water fun, it is also about Freedom. Don’t let the few
take away what the many have sacrificed for. Happy Independence Day!
ANOTHER DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!
As BJ said, “It’s a gull” (GIRL). Emily Christine Wham is due to grace us with her arrival
Thanksgiving week. We are so excited! First girl born on my side in 49 years (OOPs, just told Steph-
anie’s age) and on Bill’s side it’s been 39 years (there went Patty’s secret). We do ask for your
thoughts and prayers as doctors are watching very closely because BJ was so early. So J ladies, our
next ladies day may contain a little “pink bow” shopping.
Please visit the chapter’s website to see what items
are available for sale.

Check Your Documents
One day you are minding your own business riding down the road when you see flashing blue lights behind you, or you get into a fender bender, or encounter a safety check. You pull out the paperwork and the nice officer says that the insurance card and/or registration is out of date. WHAT!! I remember getting it in the mail and sending a check!” but did you put a copy in the motorcycle?
This happened to me the other day, only without the blue lights. When checking the paper-work in the Goldwing just because; the insurance card was expired. WHAT!! I know it was paid. Further checking found the new card in a pile of paperwork.
Now is a good time to check all those documents. Insurance, registration, passport, medical card, driver’s license, GWRRA Levels, CPR/FA , even credit card expiration dates. In these busy times, it is very easy to receive documents in the mail then forget to switch out the old ones.
Take a few minutes and check and save possible embarrassment or even a citation. Mark the calendar 4 or 6 months ahead as a reminder.
Ride Safe and Legal.

Joke Of The Month
How to relieve ear pressure in flight:
During a commercial airline flight an experienced Air Force Pilot was seated next to a young mother with a baby in arms. When the baby began crying during the descent for landing, the mother began nursing the infant as discreetly as possi-ble. The pilot pretended not to notice, and, upon disembarking, he gallantly of-fered his assistance to help with the various baby-related items. When the young mother expressed her gratitude, the pilot responded, "that's a good looking baby, and he sure was hungry!" Somewhat embarrassed, the mother explained that her pediatrician said that the time spent on the breast would help alleviate the pres-sure in the baby's ears.
The Air Force Pilot sadly shook his head, and in true pilot fashion exclaimed, "And all these years, I've been chewing gum."
Editors Note: This joke was submitted by Bill Tryan, our Chapter J member from Canada. Thank you and keep them coming. If anyone else has any jokes they would like to submit for the newsletter, please email me at [email protected].
