From Your Chapter Director
November is here and soon everyone will be getting in the holiday mode. In addition, November is a great month for riding with temperatures in the 70’s most days. So, enjoy the fall weather and take the bikes out when possible and enjoy the fall foliage.
X-toberFest 2019 was a huge success again this year. Attendance was up a little from last year. The weather on Saturday was great with the temperature reaching 80 degrees. There were plenty of door prizes, awesome grand prizes, O’Berry center raffle and sales table.
We added a new game, X puttputt, along with X-scavenger hunt and X-word puzzle bringing the total number of games and activities to 13. In addition, we had three vendors, AARP drive safe, Hope Friendship Center providing basic vital checks and information about opioid and McGrath law Firm. The boxcar races continue to be a big hit. Corn Hole, Jenga and tricycle rides were free play for fun along with a line dance learning section. There must have been around 100 door prizes, 11 grand prizes and a few silent auction items. Barbeque and chicken was the main course again this year with cole slaw, bake beans and potato salad. We gave away several gift cards and donations from CPS to attendees by pulling wrist band numbers. I think that covers the highlights. X-toberFest was a huge success and we received positive comments on the games, prizes and the food from several attendees. Thanks to all of you for helping with the preparation, the gathering of door prizes, grand prizes and the event setup and tear down. I am proud of NC-X. Your support is much appreciated. Many thanks to Capital Powersports for the use of their facility, donating a set of tires and providing lunch.
Eight of us went to C2 Myrtle Beach weekend on October, 25th & 26th. This is always a fun weekend with members from around the state. There was an overwhelming amount of finger foods, munchies and snacks.
NC-X last 2019 chapter gathering of the year is Sunday November 10th. I will be sworn in as the next District University Coordinator. See everyone there.
The Chapter is planning a TLC ride to see Jane Petzold. Stay tuned and hope most are able to ride and show Jane we love her.
The Chapter Christmas party is Saturday, December 14 and my house. The Chapter will provide dinner. You may bring your favorite appetizer or dessert if you wish. Contact Jane Petzold and let her know if you are bringing a dish. There will be a gift exchange. Bring a gift in the $20~$25 range.
The annual O’Berry Center “Gifts On Cycles” ride is Saturday December 7st. A list of what the resident’s wants will be available soon.

From Your ACD
WOW, has time flown. September and October are already gone. Here we are in November. We have not been getting out much as our work has taken top priority.
We managed to attend WOTS and retired as the District Couple. We also went to Myrtle Beach for the weekend. We had a lot of FUN and welcomed the break from what seems like a workathon.
We always enjoy being with our GWRRA family of friends whenever we can.
Because of our work commitments we will not be able to attend as many of our chapter gatherings, rides, other chapter events and rallies. But we will attend what we can. We hope you continue to have FUN although we may not be there.
Having FUN and Making Memories!James and Debra

From Chapter Couple of The YearBEST OF NOVEMBER
Sweater, scarf, hat and boot season is in full swing. The time of year you are dying to show off your sweaters and new boots. You can’t wait to grab a scarf, hat and or jacket as you run out the door. Suddenly, one morning you wake up and it’s time to start fully adding winter accessories into your wardrobe. Just like that, the weather (and the calendar) has spoken. Getting dressed just got so much easier.
The colorful leaves, we are lucky to live in a climate where seasons change. You get to watch the beautiful colors change and take walks as the leaves fall. Best of all enjoy the cool crisp air.
Veteran’s Day, our greatest asset are veterans. A day we honor the armed forces and all those who protect us now and in the past. Give a special hug to your family and friends who are veterans. Thanking them for their service.
Thanksgiving, the greatest thing about November. It has the three Fs: family, friends and food. It’s nice to gather ‘round, give thanks for the little (and big) things and stuff your face with deliciousness. Every day should start with a parade and end with a pie.

Happy Reading!Debra K. Lawler
Read your November Wing World Magazine. In it you will find an article from the newsletter editor. She gave credit to the volunteer photographers at Wing Ding 41. Two of those volunteers were from North Carolina. One being Don Cranfill (half of your current 2019-2020 NC COY) and me (your own chapter photographer).
It was our honor to help Anita Stienstra and GWRRA with photographing the happening at Wing Ding.
Your chapter would love to hear about your FUN rides, triumphs, family additions, celebrations and any good news you would like to share.
We are family. We like hearing from you!
Reminder: Due date for article is the 25th of each month. Please set up your calendar reminder with the due date.5 of 20

Taking the time to look within myself. Why do I ride? Sometimes, most of us ask that question. As our lives get busier and time gets eaten up with all the things that come our way, sometimes riding gets left out. For me, it goes back to the single most heard question from non-riders, “isn’t it too dangerous for you to ride a motorcycle?” My answer has stayed the same, “if you live your life without risk, are you really living?”
For some time now, you have read about “getting in the zone,” watching the trees and roadway mix, looking around and seeing the world, etc. This is as true today and ever. Me, I ride to clear my head of all the things that are thrown my way, most of which I do not have control over, and taking the time from my busy schedule to just enjoy life. I love to smile and riding is one way for me to accomplish that goal.
Not that long ago, Sandie and I went up to Fredericksburg, VA, to ride with some friends of ours. The goal was to spend the night with them and ride the next day and then go home. A route was planned using the “avoid highways” concept for the GPS. Off we went. We took the back roads up to Warrington and then north on Rte. 1 into Virginia. From there, I have no clue as to what roads we were on, I simply followed Sandie.
Country back roads, the kind of roads that were only 1 ½ lanes across, no lines and still paved. Mile after mile of non-stop riding. The roads had to be left over from horse drawn days as they were not level. I turned off the radio and just felt the roads as we started to pick up some speed. Not really fast, but enough to get that motorcycle feel as we cruised along. The roads curved left and right and back again, sometimes within a short distance and sometimes just being curvy.
Hills and valleys were part of the ride and long with the roads dipping instead of being flat. Each mile was different and it took a few minutes to get into the groove of ridding these roads. Direction of travel was unknown; we just followed the roads to where-ever they took us. Houses and farms appeared behinds walls of trees. Leaves were being blown off the trees and hitting the windshields, bouncing off and tossed aside from the bikes.
Most of the back roads were lined by trees keeping the direct sunlight off of us. The weather was cool and clear as the tires ran along the pavement. Just the two of us riding as a pair, following the path the roads gave us.
Back road after back road just seemed to flow endlessly along. After many hours of riding we stopped at a gas station/store that was standing alone along the roadway. Stopping in the store, I asked the lady behind the counter, “where are we?” as neither one of us knew our current location. Her reply was simple, “you are in the middle of nowhere.” Oh My…….I was thinking that I was really happy to own a GPS.

Stay Safe, Rosy
When we got back on the bikes, we looked at the GPS to ascertain where we were in relation to Fredericksburg, Va. We were north of interstate 85 just east of Snow Hill. More than 51 miles from interstate 95. We were still really south of Richmond.
We chose to plot a direct route to Fredericksburg and learned that we had 5 more hours of riding. Off we went along more back roads towards our destination.
I ride because I love to. I ride with my wife because it keeps us close. I smile from the sheer joy or riding.
Hope to see you all on the road.
Some members of the NC-X and our GWRRA family need a little Tender Loving Care. Please keep them in your prayers.
