Hi Chapter J:
I cannot believe it is almost July already. That means this year is half over already. The snow
will be flying before we know it, or at least the leaves will be.
Well, another year that we didn’t make it to Crawfordsville for the Strawberry Festival. Just too
much going on each weekend. Maybe next year.
Thanks to those of you who came to Chet’s birthday party at Onward Christian Church on the
15th. It was real nice and lots of good food. I won’t tell his age, but it was a milestone.
I looked into going over to Celina, OH in October to the Bearcreek Memories Theater which
was the old Bearcreek Farms Theater that we went to several times. I found out that it is a lot
more expensive than it was in the old location, both show tickets and the meal. Everyone decid-
ed it was too much for a show and a meal and on top of that, a nights stay in a motel. So we are
now looking for something else to do in the fall. If anyone has any ideas, please come to the July
meeting and we will discuss it. We are always open to any suggestions any of you may have.
Also, be sure to keep in mind and on your calendar our picnic at Mississinewa Res. On Saturday,
August 20th. More about this in August Newsletter and at August meeting.
We had 15 people go to Ivanhoes on Sunday, June 12th in Upland. It was a beautiful day and a
perfect day to go for ice cream or whatever you wanted. We had 4 bikes also. It was sure good to
see a good turnout. It can get a little disheartening at times to spend time setting things up for the
chapter members to do and then have so few show up.
Also in July is the Region D Rally at the Branch Co. Fairgrounds in Coldwater, MI. Probably
wouldn’t be quite so hot up there as it is here. Something to consider if you are looking for a get
a way weekend.
Gale and I were through Avon and Danville over the weekend and drove by the Mayberry Café.
Maybe that is something we should consider doing in July. It is not a bad drive and no big con-
struction or detours now. I will try to get it worked out before I send out this newsletter.
OK, I got it worked out. We will be going on Saturday, July 16th. Reservations are for 1:00PM.
We will leave Kohl’s location at 11:30AM. Wear chapter shirts if you have one. It is not a long
ride and last time we went, there was a Farmer’s Market going on right on the square in front of
the Mayberry Café. I will pass around a sheet at the meeting to get an idea of how many plan on
going. Hope to see a lot of you sign up. Be sure to put it on your calendar.
Guess that’s all for now. Have a fun and safe summer in whatever you are doing.
Gwen

FOURTH OF JULY
The Fourth of July was the date that our forefathers
signed the Declaration of Independence by the Conti-
nental Congress in Philadelphia in 1776.
Americans just celebrated this event on their own, but in 1941, Con-
gress finally established it as a legal holiday.
Today it is a day most Americans stop to celebrate their freedom, ap-
preciate their Country and pay respect to those that died to protect
us and fly the flag or display it’s red, white and blue colors in any fash-
ion they choose.

The gray days of winter are gone and the sunny days of summer are here, as we can
tell by the temperatures. So now, a different kind of protection comes on the scene.
“T” shirts, shorts and sandals should not be worn for riding. Sunburn can come
quickly and not realize it, so be prepared with lotion to protect the skin and lips.
Be sure to drink lots of water to keep from getting dehydrated. Take breaks if going
On long trips and have sun glasses by all means.
If temperature is 130 degrees on the road surface, it is the same on the top of your
Helmet, so prepare yourself to ride in summer hot sun. Protect your assets!!
