INTERESTED IN BOOKING THE WA’KAS HALL?Please call the Band Office (949-8343) and speak with Jessie Walkus about which times are available. She will write it in the hall calendar. Whoever’s name is written on the calendar is the person with the booking.
Members of the bingo committee (including Sandra Charlie and Gary Walkus) either have keys for the chairs & tables or should know how to get access. Sue Walkus, Hall Janitor, has access to the microphone. During working hours (8am-4pm, Mon-Fri) Bob Swain can help light the stove or let people into the hall. In the next newsletter we will give you more information about using the Wa’kas Hall.

A word from our facilitator….
Hello my name is Val Joseph from Kingcome Inlet. I feel very fortunate to have this oppor-tunity to be in your community to share some of my experience.
I left Kingcome many years ago to gain further education and employment. For the past 17 years I have been in the Counselling field, I have Specialized in Addictions & Mental
Health, Womens & Childrens wellness. My experiences in managing Recovery Houses and Shelters, & 2nd Stage Programs has taught me a lot. For 10 years I have been a Man-ager of several Residential Programs for Atira Womens Resource Society in Vancouver & St. James Community Services Society, also I have facilitated many groups over the years
such as:
I believe after many experiences, and learning from facilitating groups that Loss & Grief as well as Life Skills are the most beneficial to our people when it comes to Growth and Heal-ing. We have learned what the Residential Schools have done to our families, now I believe
it is time to move forward and strengthen ourselves, and this will ripple effect onto our children, our families, our communities.
The Loss & Grief support group will help to process many types of Losses this is not limited to death, it can include loss of marriage, relationship, jobs, children, etc
The Life Skills will give you the tools to move forward, when life skills are used every day it benefits you, your family, your community...it is not a one shot deal, it is something we
need to live and breath in order for things to get better.
The reason I choose these 2 groups is one will help in healing in many ways and the other is to help to move ahead in a positive way, so I hope that you can join me in one or both of the
groups being offered over the next weeks and months.
