Confucianism and Taoism traded places with Buddhism.

Mongolian rulers of China found in Buddhism a great opportunity to demolish the old order and establish a new one.

Between the 6th Century AD and 10th Century AD, the process of degeneration also began.

Buddhist monasteries turned to serious business and indulged in farming, trade and money lending.

Buddhism was spread throughout South East Asia through trading with China. They took political power and took tributes from local

rulers.

THE KORYU DYNASTY A rebel officer named Wang Kon gained control of Korea in

935 and started the Koryu Dynasty. Adopted the Chinese central government, but did not provide the

social mobility for Koreans as it did for the Chinese.

Koryu was divided between aristocracy and the rest of the population, slaves, commoners and the military.

High positions were offered to nobles’ sons and became hereditary. This spurred many rebellions.

The Koryu Dynasty remained in power until 1231 when the Mongols attacked. This lasted until the fall of the Mongol empire in the 1350s.

Oppression and taxes rose and in 1392, a group of scholar-officials and military leaders overthrew the Koryu Dynasty and created the Choson Dynasty.
