Majority should rule

Many different African tribes in the same area, usually the

largest tribe would rule over the others.

Largest tribe would also be able to fight strongly against European

colonizers.

Europeans sent representatives to make treaties, smaller tribes would sign

treaties to get power and rule over former tribal leaders.

Opportunities for revenge for hundreds of years of oppression and slavery

Created a system where the smaller tribes ruled over the

bigger ones, European armies enforced their rule.

HOW DID COLONIZATION UPSET THE

BALANCE OF POWER IN AFRICA?

Page 8: Genocide intro ppt

Rwanda Genocide

Colonization ends, European

armies leave Africa.

Africans hold elections and

votes

seek revenge on the ones who

ruled before.

month

Uganda Genocide

Colonization ends, the Ugandan

General takes power

Eliminates all rivals with mass

murders to secure himself in

power.

larger army with funds from

Europe, overthrows government,

puts himself in charge, eliminates

all rivals.

Cycle goes on and on.
