General Managers Report Overview of the Year OWNZ Employee/s OWNZ has made history this year with employing their very first full time General Manager. Moving the part time administration officer into this role in August this year is a great indication that we are making small steps in the right direction. Aim for the future Continue to secure long term funding for GM position Establish clear job descriptions for all roles on the Executive Group Create role, secure funding and employ a Youth & Coach Development Officer Funding Throughout the year, a lot of time has been invested into funding applications. These are very time consuming but are extremely important to try and cut down costs for our organisation. Our two applications for our GM’s salary were successful and there is a high chance that these contributions will be on-going. The Pacific Games/Oceanias and the Samoa YCG finances were controlled by the NZOC and this made it very difficult to secure quotes or invoices suitable for our applications. We were fortunate enough to have two funding trusts pull through, however we received more declines than we hoped for, largely due to our NZOC invoices including overseas expenses and not clearly outlining the expenses spent in NZ.

Funding Throughout the year, a lot of time has been invested into funding applications.

We sumitted a four year application to the Sport NZ Community Investment fund, this was based off our 2016 – 2020 OWNZ strategic plan draft. Sport NZ are still currently working through the applications from NSO’s and a verdict will be given by the end of 2015. An opportunity was given by the NZOC to submit an Olympic Solidarity activities funding application and an equipment grant application. These applications aim to improve the chances of our performance on the world stage. We applied for approximately $16,500 US dollars to fund our 2016 Oceania Training Camp and with great pleasure I can announce that this was approved. We also applied for a national scoreboard system/software, however this was unsuccessful. General Managers Salary

Sponsors & Business Partners Throughout the year we have had the opportunity to build on existing business relationships and to start new ones that promise us an exciting future. We understand that for our organisation to become financially secure and sustainable signing gold sponsors should be our ultimate goal. This still is however we cannot overlook what we have achieved already in sponsorships in such a short time frame. Industrial Athletic A New Zealand owned and operated company generating high quality strength and conditioning equipment. They have now been named as our exclusive supplier. This relationship began in May 2015 and has been growing ever since. There have been a few bumbs in the road due to both parties being rushed off their feet however we have an understanding that this year can be considered as our ‘teething’ year and we aim to sit down to draft our plan for 2016 soon. Not only are IA providing financial support but they also provide our affiliated clubs with genrous discounts on products and OWNZ then receives a rebate from this. The club discounts have been recieved well with numerous clubs investing in new gear. Our 2015 rebate will be completed by the end of the year. A huge thank you to Rob and Amber needs to be mentioned for providing gear for our National Championships and for continually being positive throughout our ‘teething’ issues. OWNZ is looking forward to working with IA in 2016! Cobra Clothing Another NZ owned and operated business connecting OWNZ with great apparel for our members, clubs and NZ teams. To have a NZ supplier of weightlifting suits and shoes provides great benefits to our members. We look forward to continuing our work with Cobra Clothing. EBOS Working with EBOS this year has been a pleasure. Joe Ward has been very accommodating with providing our national events with prize packs and goodies with little in return. In the near future OWNZ aims to promote EBOS, its new website and ordering system to build its exposure and increase the amount of purchase OWNZ members make to maintain a steady income through our rebate system. This is definitely a relationship we aim to maintain for the future. Tararua Dairy Co

With the help of our Vice President, Richie Patterson we were able to get in touch with the marketing manager of Goodman & Fielder. Our relationship with them started when Richie secured them as an event sponsor for the North Island Champs. With what was an incredible event receiving numerous amounts of exposure, we walked into our meeting with them feeling confident in delivering to them a gold sponsorship proposal. Although this was not a successful it was a huge learning curve for our organisation going forward. Thank you to Richie for setting this up and providing us with this opportuity. SOS Rehydration They were a last minute call up and jumped at the opportunity to work with us at this years Natinal Championships as an event partner providing our athletes with SOS rehydration samples. After this event we intend to sit down and discuss what opportunities our future could have together. Aim for the future:

-‐ Continue to plan for and indentify potential sponsors, especially a naming rights and gold sponsors

-‐ Build on our current relationships making them stronger and moving them towards an income generating relationship where both parties benefit

-‐ Identify individuals within OWNZ that could have links to organisations with the potential to be a sponsor

NZ Sporting Partners On going work has been done with the following organisations throughout the year: Sport NZ, HPSNZ, NZOC and RST’s. Building these relationships is essential for our sports image, brand and reputation.

Events We are proud to say that the quality of events this year has risen significantly and every Club that has been involved should be extrememly proud of their efforts this year so far. Participation numbers have been significantly higher this year due to increased exposure and clearer guidelines in participation pathways. The increased support that OWNZ has given to these hosting clubs has been significant in planning and preparing a successful event. With the National Championships and Masters Nationals coming up we are going to finish the year off with memorable events! Aim for the future:

-‐ Implement initiatives to continue the growth of our competitive membership database

-‐ Continue to provide support and guidance for hosting clubs in 2016 -‐ Provide financial support through securing event sponsors -‐ Increase media coveage for our national events -‐ Implement our Event Delivery strategic initiative with professionalsm

and leadership Communications There has been a significant improvement in communication throughout our organisation in 2015. By employing a general manager we now have immediate responses to enquiries and the resources to communicate business through to our membership via emails, newsletters, website and

social media. We aim to continue this. We are always looking for improvements in this area so any feedback is welcomed. Marketing This is something that was not capatalized on this year. We could have receievd more exposure for our sport with our successes overseas at international events and we need to invest more time in building these relationships with NZ media. We will have media present over the weekend at our National Championships which is a starting point and with upcoming international events like the Rio Olympic Games we look to build ur profile via the media. 2015 Leagues Club Champs League Another successful year of our Club Champs league with record numbers in participation and a great amount of exposure for our sport. We will continue this league into 2016 with even more enthusiasm! Secondary School League This league started off well with 38 schools participating in round 1, however as we head into round 7 things have dropped off quite a bit. We will continue to push this league through to the final round encouraging participating but we will definitely revamp the structure and design for 2016 so that we can retain our numbers throughout the year.

2015 OWNZ Talent Identification Program The “TI” program has been established to create a pathway to present the sport of Olympic Weightlifting to Schools. It is a starting point to link Clubs and Schools and/or fosters current Club-School relationships. Clubs were given the opportunity to deliver a nationally endorsed program to secondary school students in their region to increase the exposure of their club and hopefully gain some new members and to be in the running to win a ZKC weight set. Starting with a simple presentation to the students, following this, a testing protocol is conducted to help the kids understand what is involved in Olympic weightlifting training.

Thank you to the three clubs that participated in this program. Our results are as follows: North Island Participating Clubs: 1st Place = Papatoetoe Weightlifting Club They tested in 7 schools to 527 students 2nd Place = Netfit Training Room Olympic Weightlifting They tested in 2 schools to 213 students South Island Participating Club: 1st Place = Southland Olympic Weightlifting Tested at 1 school to 26 students Even though we only received 3 submissions, we still achieved a large amount of exposure for our sport to secondary school students. Along with some great feedback from the club representatives and some clubs welcoming new members to their facility, it has been a successful program given that we havent run anything like this in the past. We will be using the feedback from these clubs when we look to run our Youth Program in the coming years.

Re-cap What an outstanding year OWNZ has had! Huge record numbers in EVERY aspect of our sport. We cant ask for more but to keep taking small steps forward in the right direction. Lets continue to grow, learn, strive to be the best that we can be given our resources. Looking Forward Our organisation still requires more direction and leadership. Without this we could potentially be stagnant and “miss the boat” on opportuntiies to grow and exposure our brand.

The executive group has brainstormed and drafted together the 2016 – 2020 Strategic Plan which addresses a lot of the topics discussed in this report. This will be presented at the OWNZ AGM and feedback will be welcomed the following week in a survey. OWNZ looks to publish this document and to start implementing its initiatives in the coming months preparing for 2016. Emma Pilkington General Manager Olympic Weightlifting New Zealand
