hildren, we need 15 adult volunteers who can work thefferent stations. If you are available from 6-9 p.m. and enjoyorking with children and hands-on science projects, pleaseontact Patti Wolf at [email protected]

ead LiceWe have had several cases of head lice in the last few weeks.

Your child may have received anexposure notice from the office. Lice, which are a common age-old pest, areeasily transferred from person to person. All age groups and localities aresusceptible. Cleanliness does not seemto be a significant factor; lice are attracted

to all children. Lice are more frequentlytransmitted through combs and brushes.Baseball hats are also popular places for head lice.

etection - How to spot lice:its (eggs). Nits look similar to very small grains of rice ande attached to the shaft of the hair. They do not dislodge

asily. They feel like a small grain of sand, but will not move if cked with the finger.

ce. Lice are small, gray and have six legs. They can easily

awl from head to head. Unusual scratching and itching of thecalp, especially behind the ears, may indicate the presence of ce.

reatment: Wash the child’s hair with a head lice shampoo. It is essential

follow treatment directions recommended by your hysician or pharmacist. In addition, consult a physician or harmacist regarding the treatment of family members.epeat treatment in 10 days. Comb the hair with a head liceomb to remove the nits. Wash all affected combs, brushes, aseball hats, clothing and bedding in hot soap and water heets, blankets, towels, etc.) and dry in the sun if possible.pecial sprays are available at the drugstore to spray the

rniture and rugs in the home, and the upholstery in the car.ease inform your child that sharing hats, hairbrushes or other

ems that come into contact with the head is likely to spreadead lice. Please have your child check in the office before

turning to his/her class. Your child will be readmitted tochool after an inspection reveals that no nits or lice remain ine hair.   Thank you for your cooperation.

T.B. Test For VolunteersThis is just a reminder that all adults that volunteer in theclassroom need to have a TB test on file in the school officyou have one on file at another school in our district, or in tdistrict office, we still need one on file atGarden Gate.    Please be mindful of our policy when volunteering in the classroom.

Do Your Children Know Their Home Phone Number?Almost every afternoon students come intothe office to call home, but can’t do itbecause they don’t know their phonenumber. We suggest that you encourage your child tomemorize phone numbers or write down important phonenumbers and have your child keep them in his/her backpacKnowing a phone number to contact a family member is veimportant and helps children feel more secure when they k

that they can reach you in an emergency.

MARY HAD A LITTLE COLD Mary had a little cold but wouldn’t stay athome; And everywhere that Mary went the coldwas sure to roam.

It wandered into Molly’s eyes and filledthem full of tears; It jumped from there to Bobby’s nose andthen to Jimmy’s ears.

It painted Anna’s throat bright redand swelled poor Jimmy’s ear;Dora had a fever and a cough put Jack to bed.

The moral of this little tale Is very quickly said,Mary could have saved a lot of pain with just one day in beFrom Katy Waugh, RN, PHN
