“We’ve had two tough losses on the road. We’ve re-grouped

this week, putting all of our focus on finding a way to beat a

tough division rival against Cincinnati today. We have not been

good enough in all three phases of the game. We have to coach

better and play better, and we know we can. It has been a long

time since we played at home, and we’re looking forward to

that. We’ll need the purple wall in full force today.”

TOP 10 RAVENJONATHANOGDEN

TOP 10 RAVENJONATHAN OGDENHall of Fame left tackle Jonathan Ogden, a perennial Pro Bowler and a franchise cornerstone, was voted by season ticket holders as one of the Top 10 Ravens in team history.

By Chase Russell

75Baltimore’s first-ever draft pick (fourth overall in 1996), Jonathan Ogden set the standard for NFL offensive linemen, becoming the Ravens’ first draft selection inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013. The 10-time All-Pro (1996-2004, 2006) packed a lethal combination of athleticism, power, intelligence and discipline into his 6-foot-9, 345-pound frame. During his decorated 12-year career, Ogden compiled nearly as many Pro Bowls (11) as holding penalties (13), earning 11-consecutive appearances in the league’s All-Star game (1997-2007).

During Baltimore’s Super Bowl XXXV championship season in 2000, the Ravens Ring of Honor member was a cornerstone on an offensive line that led RB Jamal Lewis to 1,364 rushing yards. In 2003, Ogden helped pave the way for Lewis – who gained a franchise-record 2,066 yards on the ground (third in NFL history) – en route to the team’s first division title. Lewis also recorded the second-highest single-game rush total (295 yards) in league history behind an Ogden-led front five that year against Cleveland. During Baltimore’s second AFC North championship season (2006), the Ravens allowed a franchise-low 17 sacks, with Ogden protecting QB Steve McNair’s blindside.

Ogden’s career marks of 177 games played and 176 starts rank fourth and second, respectively, in franchise history. The Baltimore big man also had big-play ability, retiring with two touchdown receptions.

OZZIE NEWSOME ON JONATHAN

“In all my years as a player, coach and front office executive, Jonathan played his position as well as any player at any position that I’ve had the opportunity to observe. When he was lined up for us at left tackle, we never had to worry about the quarterback’s blind side.”

TERRELL SUGGS ON JONATHAN

“It definitely helped me in my first year, because when I went and played in the game, there was no one as good as J.O. He’s the toughest guy I’ve gone up against. There were guys that

could be mentioned, but he was hands-down the best offensive lineman in the league and probably the best offensive lineman ever.”

MARSHAL YANDA ON JONATHAN

“J.O. was a tremendous player. Watching him on film and watching him during the games, J.O. had really good feet, a good pass set, and nobody could run him over. Obviously, he was such a big man – he had really good feet for a big man. He would step back, and there was nobody that was going to run him over. He’s already a Hall of Famer, so that speaks for itself. Wherever you stack him up, he’s obviously up there, and for the Ravens organization, he should definitely toward the top. And the talk [of him being one of the greatest] – if not the greatest – he and Ray Lewis definitely are the highest two. He’s definitely one of the all-time greats.”

75 BALTIMORERAVENS.COM 2322 BALTIMORE RAVENS GAMEDAY PROGRAM

JONATHAN ON JONATHAN

On what it means to be a Raven: “It means that you’re part of an organization that knows how to go out there and do things the right way, and when you’re a part of that, it kind of rubs off on [everyone]. I like to still think I helped establish some of that. But you just don’t want to let people down in the organization, because everyone is so first-class. It means being a true professional. That’s how everyone in that building is, really.”

On his ‘This is the NFL’ moment: “It was probably playing Green Bay in the preseason my rookie year (1996). Gilbert Brown, I remember, he basically just threw me to the ground, which had never happened to me before. So, that was kind of like, ‘Hello, rookie! This is what it’s like.’”

On his favorite sport outside of football: “Growing up, it was basketball. Nowadays, it’s golf, because I can’t play basketball anymore. But I still love basketball.”

On if he could have been an Olympian and won a medal… “I’m going to go out on a limb and say yes – I’d say yes, in the shotput. Had I stuck with it out of college, who knows?”

On where he will be in five years: “Probably still in Las Vegas. I plan to continue to do good work in the community around and just enjoy my kids, Jayden and Mia. That’s the thing – when you have kids, you just want to enjoy them. They’re 10 and 3 right now, so they’ll be 15 and 8 [in five years]. Oh, goodness.”

On “Jonathan Ogden: Hall of Famer”: “It has a nice ring to it. (laughter) It’s still one of those things that’s kind of [surreal]. I know it is true; it has been a couple years now, but it still just seems unbelievable at the same time. But it has really just been a heck of a ride, being a Hall of Famer now, representing Baltimore. I’m just glad that I got to be the Ravens’ first inductee, because we’ll have a couple more coming down the line, but I get that distinction. It’s nice.”

BALTIMORERAVENS.COM 41

He’s rural-Texas tough and also connects with Baltimore’s blue collar beliefs.Charm City, meet Crockett Gillmore, the Ravens’ second-year tight end who has taken aim at becoming an all-around offensive force in 2015.

What You Might Know...• 4 – That’s the number of career touchdown catches

by Gillmore, half of which came last Sunday in the Ravens’ game at Oakland. (Gillmore posted a career-high five receptions for 88 yards on the day). The other two scores occurred against the Steelers at Heinz Field last season, with the first happening in Week 9 and the second in Baltimore’s 30-17 Wild Card playoff victory.

• Gillmore played defensive end for one season while in college at Colorado State. Originally recruited as a tight end, he switched to defense just before the opening game of his freshman campaign. He saw action in 10 contests that year, but then moved back to tight end after the season’s conclusion. Suffice it to say, CSU coaches made the right call, as Gillmore went on to rack up 111 catches for 1,308 yards and eight touchdowns in his final three years.

• In July, Gillmore became engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Hayley Thompson. The two met at Colorado State, where Thompson was a four-year starting guard for the women’s basketball team. How’d he pop the question? By having her shoot down several targets that spelled out “Will you marry me?” at a friend’s shooting range in Texas.

What You Don’t Know...• Gillmore is from the remote, no-stoplight town of

Bushland, Texas, where just over 1,000 people live. The main attraction? Bushland’s high school football stadium, which boasts a capacity six times the size of the town’s population.

• Gillmore grew up a big Pittsburgh fan.

“As a kid, I loved defense. I loved watching the Ravens and Steelers battle. I couldn’t care less about offense then. I was an outside linebacker and D-end, so I liked Jarret Johnson and James Harrison. I loved the way those guys played. I felt they played football the right way. I had dreams of scoring in Pittsburgh. I just didn’t know it wasn’t going to be in a Steelers uniform.”

• Crockett singles out his older brother, Austin – with whom he played for two seasons at Colorado State – as a guiding force in life. Austin, a former fullback/linebacker, instilled in his younger sibling resiliency, toughness and a competitive desire that helped propel Crockett to the NFL.

“When we were kids, we were the same size, but I was two years younger. Everything he did, I just followed him around. I always had to play at his level. I had to be as fast or as strong as he was, or he would destroy me. And then, his friends would come over, and I had to beat them out, even if I wanted to play in the front yard. It wasn’t an everybody-gets-picked league – even if we were just playing in the yard.”

What You Need to Know...• Gillmore was one of eight rookies to play in at least

10 games for the Ravens in 2014. Of those players, five (including Crockett) started at least one contest. Gillmore posted 10 catches for 121 yards (fifth most among rookie NFL tight ends) and one touchdown in 15 regular season games (one start). This season, he has started in Baltimore’s first two contests, registering seven catches for 111 yards and two TDs.

• Gillmore spent the 2015 offseason training with offensive linemen at a gym owned by LeCharles Bentley, the former New Orleans Saint and two-time Pro Bowl center.

“After the 2014 season ended, I initially talked to a track coach about improving my speed and change of direction. My strength was OK, but he said that because I grew so fast, I needed more deadlifts in my training and to work on my hip explosion. He said if I can get the rest of my body engaged with my hips, I would improve in a lot of different ways.

“I’m never going to run like a track star, so I decided to train with offensive linemen, because they get bigger and stronger. I figured that would help me more with my hip explosion, especially in the passing game.”

• With Bentley’s guidance, Gillmore added 25 pounds of muscle to his 6-foot-6 frame and bulked up to a chiseled 270 pounds. Additionally, he dropped his body fat percentage and increased his straight-ahead speed.

“I got a little sloppy after my senior year of college throughout the process of preparing for the [NFL] Combine and my pro day. I was training for non-football drills, so I really didn’t come to Baltimore in great football shape. I feel significantly better and more prepared now.”

“It’s important to recognize young people who step up and make a positive difference in our community. In the past 11 years, nearly 9,000 people have been recognized by the Honor Rows program for their outstanding community service.”

— Augie Chiasera, President of M&T Bank’s Greater Baltimore and Chesapeake regions

Ravens Community

Scrapbook

“We recognize the importance of strengthening our community, and are committed to contributing in as many ways as we can. Our players do an amazing job connecting with Baltimore and supporting its causes. Our fans and community mean the world to us and without them, we could not do our job. It is an honor to give back to such a great city.”

– Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh

9/9 In celebration of kickoff week, the Ravens held a 5k to benefit two local Baltimore non-profit organizations: the One Love Foundation and the House of Ruth Maryland. Runners finished on the 50-yard line at M&T Bank Stadium.

9/11 The team’s first Purple Friday celebration kicked

off with two visits to local Baltimore City elementary schools.

The band, cheerleaders and mascot Poe performed and got

students excited for the start of the season.

9/2 Members of the Ravens All Community Team (ACT) distributed backpacks and school supplies to the children at Westport Academy (Baltimore, Md.).

8/29 The Ravens honored eight local youth football

teams and members of the Lil Ravens cheerleading squad

during the halftime breaks of both home preseason games.
