Now everyone thinks they know how to properly play video games, but there are in

fact some little tricks to making your gaming experience even more enjoyable. For

example the foods you eat, what you’re drinking, what type of game you’re playing,

and even what you’re sitting on can affect your game time.

Now before you can even think about playing a video game, you have

to decide if you’re hungry or not. If yes, you need to make informed

decisions on the type of food you eat. Anything greasy, powdery or

wet can really determine how much fun you have, really greasy things

are messy and get all over your controller which can be quite a hassle

to clean off. The same thing goes for powdery things like the season-

ing on chips, which in my opinion are the worst things to eat while

gaming; the seasoning gets all over the place, and can gum up your

controller buttons. Wet foods are arguably the worst, what I mean by

wet foods are foods that have a syrup on them that can make your

hands sticky and stuff like oranges that are sometimes messy. When

you eat something that make your hands sticky, the also make the con-

troller sticky which can be quite uncomfortable to hold onto for long

periods of time, controllers are also known to stay sticky for a while

after the incident.

After choosing an appropriate snack to munch on, it’s

time to choose a game. If you’re a violent person, what

better way to take out all your anger than to virtually

destroy a young child on the other team? I’d recommend

something like Battlefield, Halo, or Call of Duty, if you

enjoy more gruesome games I’d recommend something

like Gears of War. People who like a mix of puzzles and

action, Fallout is a great choice. If you want a game

that’s relaxing and easy to play, racing games are great

or games similar to them. The worst thing you can do is

to try and get into a game you don’t enjoy; you’ll just

get frustrated and have an awful time.

Finally you need a comfortable chair

or couch to crash on to dedicate many

hours of virtual reality to. This is all

personal preference and there’s no one

chair that will suit everyone. Couches

are great for gaming because if you’re

tired you can always lay down. Some

people like a reclining arm chair, or a

beanie bag chair.

With these three easy steps, you will be able to have a

great gaming experience.

I’ve com-

piled a list from

several renowned

gaming sites such

as IGN, Joystick

and Kotaku. This

list contains the

best of all sites

with a little input

from yours truly,

keep in mind it’s not

a review so there

won’t be much in

terms of story here.

Well let’s get started!

In the #10 slot is GEARS OF WAR 3.

This futuristic, 3rd person/over-the-

shoulder, apocalyptic powerhouse

comes from EPIC GAMES and makes

the list for it’s gritty colour scheme

and appearance as well as the unique-

ness of the combat with special little

plot twists I won’t spoil!

Coming in at #9 is DEAD SPACE 2.

This sci-fi space horror game uses a happy

game mechanic of dismemberment to kill the

adversaries…lovely. It makes #9 because of

how many times I jumped during it (don’t

worry it’s a good thing).

Page 7: Game Boss

7

#8 is L.A NOIRE. This crime

drama of a game uses revolu-

tionary facial-mapping tech-

niques that make the characters

face muscles move realistically.

It tops out at 8 because the nov-

elty of the faces wears off after a

while and it, admittedly becomes

quite stressful.

#7 is DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLU-

TION. It’s a spy/1st person shooter game

that is also a sequel. It was a fun title to play,

but I was not invested in the story as much

as I should have been. Also this is a sequel

#6 CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE 3. This might out-

rage some of you, I’m sorry but sometimes the critics (you

know who you are) are right, it’s been remade to many times.

#5 is BATTLEFIELD 3. This is yet another 1st person military

shooter, the reason its one place above CALL OF DUTY is be-

cause people prefer the fell of the game to CALL OF DUTY.

Sorry to all whom may be offended, those lost two have a large

fan base I know.

I grouped

these two

together

because

they are

very simi-

lar

PORTAL 2 is next up at #4.

This is the sequel to the critically ac-

claimed PORTAL. I find the mechan-

ic of the portal gun (which allows you

to open portals to move through the

puzzles) really fun to use.

ASSASSIN’S CREED REVALA-

TIONS takes the #3 spot with the colourful

and vast city of Constantinople to explore,

but it’s getting repetitive after 4 titles.

Page 8: Game Boss

SAINT’S ROW THE THIRD is #2. This quirky open world,

first person game is a little vulgar, but that’s why people love it. It is

still played regularly by it’s players. That’s always a good quality.

was given. I realize it was

game of the year for the rec-

ord… that’s why it’s #1.

Ah SKYRIM, #1 on the

list was one of the most antic-

ipated games this past year.

The new engine made the

game beautiful, but I kind of

forgot about the aesthetic af-

ter spending so many hours of

my life climbing mountains

and doing every side-quest I

Did you know

that Nintendo was not

always an electronics

company. From 1889

until 1956 Nintendo

was the manufacturer

of a card game called

Hanafuda. This game

was very popular but

later became outdated

and sales went down

enormously. So Nin-

tendo decided to

change their way of

making money. They

eventually started a

taxi business, as well

as a love hotel chain

and a TV network.

However these prod-

ucts were eventually all

In 1966 Ninten-

do moved into the Japa-

nese toy business and

came out with the ultra

hand. The ultra hand

was an extendable hand

in which you could pick

things up without hav-

ing to bend over. The

ultra hand was designed

by one of Nintendo's

maintenance engineers

who later became a

product developer.

Nintendo later on came

out with a few other suc-

cessful toys such as the

Ultra Machine and the

Love Tester.

Nintendo was

founded in

1889 by a

man by the

name of

Fusajiro

Yamauchi.

Later on when

most of the

curred his

grandson

In 1974 Nintendo decid-

ed to venture into the

video game business.

They did this by getting

the rights to distribute

the Magnavox Odyssey

video game console in

Japan. This opportunity

opened up huge doors

for Nintendo. In 1977

Nintendo began to pro-

duce their own hard-

ware called the color tv

home video console.

Four versions of this con-

sole were made and each

console had different

variations of the same

game. In a student game

developer was hired at

this time to create the

covers for the Color TV

game, his name was Shi-

geru Miyamoto 1975

Nintendo moved into the

arcade sector of video

games with the EVR race.

Later on

Nintendo DS. In 2011

Nintendo came out with

the Nintendo Wii which

was on high demand when

it first came out but now it

seems that the demand

has diminished since Mi-

crosoft has came out with

the Xbox Kinect.

Nintendo today makes

quite a variety of products

however I would say that

they are not nearly as suc-

cessful as they used to be.

For example everybody

used to play the Nintendo

64’s, however today there

are only a certain age

group who play on the

that Nintendo Released

was the Super Nintendo

which was an overall

better version of the

Nintendo Entertainment

system. Overall Ninten-

do sold 49 million Super

Nintendo's which was a

huge success. In 1995

Nintendo came out with

the Nintendo 64 which

was even a bigger hit

than the Super Ninten-

do. The N 64 was the

first time that players

could play four at a time

on a single console and

it was the first to have

joysticks on the control-

lers. Nintendo 64 was

probably the most suc-

cessful Nintendo con-

sole ever sold, there are

also many people today

who have, and play their

Nintendo 64’s.

Nintendo came out with

their first North Ameri-

can product in 1985

and some people may

consider it as a game

changer in the line of

video games. The con-

sole was called The Nin-

tendo Entertainment

system. The system

came with a game that

is still very popular today

called Super Mario Bros.

the next game console

Nintendo released Don-

key Kong which was a

game changing move for

the company. After Don-

key Kong was released it

opened up many oppor-

tunities for Nintendo and

brought in a large profit.

Nintendo has made many

handheld systems howev-

popular as the TV game

consoles because they

were a little bit Childish.

Jetpacks? Joy rides? Who ever thought the two things could come together into one fun for the whole family game. Half Brick Studi-os have successfully released an enjoyable app for the apple iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. The game was released in august of 2011, and has surprisingly mustered up over 16 million downloads so far.

In short, Jetpack Joyride is exactly what the title says. The pur-pose of the game is to get as many coins and cover as much dis-tance as you can after stealing a jetpack while avoiding obstacles such as lasers, missiles, and electric barriers. You can also com-plete missions while doing this to gain levels and money which can be used to buy vehicle upgrades, new jetpacks, and power ups. This game uses simple controls by simply touching the screen to go up with your jetpack or any vehicle you acquire.

In conclusion I would give this game a 7/10 because it keeps your interest at first, and does a great job at it, but after complet-ing the same tedious task over and over again. The controls also play a large factor in this rating because they are easy and anyone could do them, simply touch the screen in any place and off you go. Some things they should have added or worked on were more mission, vehicle upgrades and a map to run on to spice it up a lit-tle as you level up.

We’ve all played video games, it’s nearly impossible in today’s society not to.

The problem with this is what happens if you develop an addiction. Video game and

Internet addiction are not actually recognized as diagnosable disorders, but they do

exist. Video game addiction is defined as the extreme over use of computer and vid-

eo games that interfere with everyday life.

There are certain signs and symptoms related to video game addiction, most are re-

lated to blatant overuse and exhaustion. Some of the recognizable behavioural

symptoms such as:

Most free time is spent playing games.

Poor performance in school. i.e.: falling asleep in

class, falling averages and falling behind in assign-

ments and school work.

Becoming defensive or lying about video game use.

Hostility toward others such as friends or family when

not playing.

Foregoing time with friends for time playing games.

There are also physical symptoms such as:

Carpal Tunnel.

Poor sleep patterns.

Back aches and/or neck aches.

Headaches.

Dry eyes.

Poor personal hygiene.

Not eating properly.

There are certain reasons a game is addictive. Highscore is one of the most rec-

ognizable hooks, whether you’re beating your own or taking on a friend it can occu-

py someone for hours. Possibly the most obvious hook is simply beating the game.

There are games nowadays that can last for over 100 hours. Role-playing is another

one; the player can build a character to personify their view of perfection. This can

lead some players to become overly invested in a game and care more about their

fake-cartoon- monster then they do their own personal lives.

Good “treatments” for video game addiction can be difficult, a therapist or pro-

gram would be the most logical place to start, if not, just get out of your element and

maybe attend a summer camp or go on a vacation with no access to the internet or

games.
