ACQUISITIONHayward & Greenacquires BAe-125sfrom Royal Flight
BAe-125s from Royal Flight.
Three Royal Air Force BAe-125s from 32Squadron, also known as the Royal Squadron, have been acquired from an MOD tender by thespecial projects division of West Sussex aero-space engineering firm Hayward & GreenAviation Ltd.
The aircraft were retired from active service inlate March. Their disposal marks the end of theRAF’s involvement with the 125. “These aircraft
have a unique and intriguing history” explainsDirector of Operations, Jeremy Green. “As well as active military service in the Gulf andelsewhere, they have also been used by HerMajesty the Queen as well as other members ofthe Royal family and many leading cabinet politicians including the Prime Minister. The RAF really valued these aircraft for their unflappablereliability.”
Plans for the aircraft have yet to be finalised butGreen has confirmed that at least one will bemaintained as fully operational. The others maybe used as sources of spare parts for continuingoperations. Green believes the cosmetically- preserved airframes themselves would make an eye-catching and historic gate guardian. “These aircraft have served Queen and countryincredibly well, and have a unique place inBritain’s recent aviation heritage” he concludes.

Why I fly.“To capture the beauty of flight.”Jessica Ambats, Pilot // Aviation Photographer// Aviation Photographer//
Why Jessica flies with the Bose A20 headset. To capture that perfect shot, every moment counts. That’s why Jessica relies on the Bose A20 Aviation Headset for clear communication. Noise and wind can interfere with critical dialogue between her pilots, sometimes causing safety concerns. The A20 headset offers 30% greater active noise reduction than conventional headsets, so Jessica can hear more of what she needs to hear. And with 30% less clamping force*, she can stay focused on her flight.

AIR DISPLAY FLYINGJeff Boerboon - Just aninsane jet engine strappedto a 1929 replica biplane
Screamin' Sasquatch stunt pilot Jeff Boerboon.
Acrobatics pilot Jeff Boerboon is gracefullypivoting in front of me as he raises his handsover his head. Then he arches his body side-ways and turns both hands, palms out to theleft, like Superman executing an in-airmaneuver.
Boerboon is, in fact, performing an intricatedance, one that could be replicated hundreds of feet in the air as he pilots the one-of-a-kindScreamin’ Sasquatch Waco biplane, a classic–looking airplane with the unique distinction of having a Learjet engine strappedto its belly.
Jeff and the Jack Link's flying team (yes, thatJack Link's of the always ready-to-eat beef jerky)performed at the Bethpage Air Show at JonesBeach State Park, Wantagh, New York, USA onMay 23 and 24. Dozens of airplanes performeddeath-defying stunts before around 400,000spectators. Right now, though Boerboon, 47, isexplaining how he and other stunt pilots performsome of their tricks. “It may look all haphazardup there,” said Boerboon, “but it’s not.”
Highly trained pilots (he has over a dozen yearsof professional acrobatic flying experience) likeBoerboon actually map out every move on the
ground. They imagine where the audience linewill be and then walk and dance through the various moves, taking note of their proximity toeach other and figuring out exactly how andwhen they’ll perform certain rolls and spins,
especially when they’rebreaking in and out of formation.
Boerboon’s plane, by theway, is well-equipped forstunts and keeping up withthe seemingly more powerfuland modern planes it fliesalongside. A replica of a1929 Taperwing biplane, the Jack Link’s Screamin’Sasquatch was built from the ground up by pilot andmechanic Dell Coller forstunt flying. Coller told methat the project started 20
years ago, but it wasn’t really finished untilrecently when Coller, 33, joined and started leading the project. Coller is often called the“mastermind of the plane,” and he knows theScreamin’ Sasquatch inside and out.
It’s built of metal, wood and fabric like traditionalbiplanes, but is larger and with an unusual blendof early and late-20th century technology. Thereare separate throttles for the two engines, butone digital readout in the rather cramped cockpitthat keeps track of both the prop and the jet.Coller is able to download all the data after everyflight to analyze the biplane’s performance.
Jack Link's Extra 300L (foreground) and the Screamin’Sasquatch fly in formation over Jones Beach.

MARKET UPDATEBizAv Activity - Europe
The recent WingX Business Aviation Monitorreports that there were 62,968 BusinessAviation flight departures in Europe in April2015, a 0.8% Year-On-Year (YOY) decline.
The declining trend in 2015 has narrowed, but isstill -2.7% year to date. France and Germanypropped up the market, gaining up to 4%, notesWingX, however this was largely driven byPiston and Turboprop activity.
Business jets flew 57% of all flights in Europe, with jet charters falling -3% YOY. The recentgrowth trend in the UK ended in April with a -1%slowdown. The renewed slowdown in activity isclearly not just related to the Eurozone periph-ery, however, as indicated by flight reductions inItaly, Spain, Switzerland and particularlyBelgium. Mostly the drop came in AOC flights. There were still some growth regions, notablyTurkey, Czech Republic and Austria, whereCharter increased 8% YOY. Inbound flights fromNorth America were up 6%; from North Africa up14%; and from Asia-Pacific, up 18%.
Unsurprisingly, the collapse in Business Aviationactivity in Eastern Europe and Russia continueswith flights inbound from the CIS down -26%.Flights from Europe to Russia were down -20%YOY, which was less than the YTD -25% trend,so the impact may be bottoming out.

FUNDING GRANTCirrus lands $4 million in state aid as Minnesotalegislative session ends
Just a few ticks before the midnight deadline toadjourn Monday, the Minnesota Legislature fulfilled Duluth's $4 million request for fundingthat could accommodate the expansion of CirrusAircraft and the creation of at least another 150local jobs.
Earlier, the House had moved to appropriateonly half of the sum, with the Senate supportingthe full request. In response, representatives ofCirrus and the city of Duluth ramped up theircampaign to convince members of a conferencecommittee to go with the larger number.
That effort bore fruit in the waning moments ofthe legislative session, and if Gov. Mark Daytonsigns off on the jobs bill, the funding could bereleased in July.
"In the last 90 seconds of the session, I'll take it,"said Bill King, Cirrus' vice president of businessand administration, Monday afternoon.
The city of Duluth seeks to construct a $10 million facility for Cirrus with the state fundsplus another $6 million in tax-increment financing.
The proposed site for the new 60,000-square-foot building is on city-owned land locatedsoutheast of Cirrus' existing Duluth operations, which already employ about 600 people. That number should grow substantially if theFederal Aviation Administration certifies Cirrus'first personal jet, the Vision SF50, potentiallyopening the door for production to begin byyear's end.
CERTIFICATION Cirrus steadily advanceson certification for itsnew Vision SF50 jet
Cirrus steadily advances on certification for itsnew jet with three conforming Vision SF50 single-engine jets logging time for the certification flight-test programme. Cirrus is ontrack for first delivery by year-end.
In addition, Cirrus has dropped more than fifty6,000-pound cylinders to test the Cirrus AirframeParachute System for the SF50.■ More information visit - http://cirrusaircraft.com
FEATURED AIRCRAFTPilatus Puts Five MillionthHour in the PC-12’s Logbook
By the end of May, the global fleet of over1,300 Pilatus PC-12 aircraft reached a majormilestone by compiling 5,000,000 flight hourssince the first aircraft was delivered inOctober, 1994.
“We are very pleased to mark this significantachievement,” said Ignaz Gretener, Vice President of the General Aviation BusinessUnit of Pilatus. “The fleet is extremely active, accumulating over half a million hours per year, with some individual PC-12s flying more than2,000 hours annually.”
Since making its debut in the market, the PC-12has become one of the perennial top sellingmodels of business aircraft, and built a provenrecord as one of the safest business aircraft onthe market. The PC-12’s success can be attributed to many factors, but the diversity of its operator base is considered the most predominant reason for its continued strongsales. PC-12s around the world are used forexecutive transport, special missions, air ambulance, surveillance, airlines, cargo transport, fractional ownership, law enforcement, charter, fire spotting, and relief aid roles.
Gretener continued, “We are especially gratefulto our customers for their confidence in Pilatusand their commitment to the PC-12. Our closerelationships with operators have helped us con-tinuously improve the aircraft. We look forward tocelebrating the next 5,000,000 hours!”

ENGINESBlackhawk’sNew PT6A-140 EngineUpgrade for the CessnaCaravan Nears Certification
Blackhawk Modifications announces that FAACertification is imminent for a Pratt & WhitneyPT6A-140 new engine upgrade for the Cessna208 Caravan and 208B Grand Caravan. This isthe same 867 horsepower engine currentlyused by Cessna on the Caravan EX.
Due to growing demand for extra horsepower fromEuropean Caravan operators, EASA certification willfollow the FAA approval. Available in June, 2015 inthe USA, the factory new PT6A-140 upgrade offersan increase in available horsepower to 867, up fromthe 600 or 675 horsepower on Caravans equippedwith PT6A-114 or PT6A-114A engines. The result ofthis 28-44% increase in available horsepower willenable like-new levels of aircraft performance andload carrying capabilities.Included with theBlackhawk XP upgrade is a newly developed 325amp starter/generator, a higher capacity engine oilcooler and a 106” three blade Hartzell propeller thatis currently used on the Caravan EX. Theseupgrades offer Caravans operating throughoutEurope the performance capabilities needed toeffectively complete high-demand mission profiles.Operators will also benefit from lower engine start-ing and oil temperatures due to the higher-capacitystarter/generator and oil cooler.
“Caravans are workhorses”, states Jim Allmon,Blackhawk’s President and CEO. “Manycommercial operators utilize short runways, carrying heavy loads in hot and high conditions.Additionally, those Caravan owners who operate offwater will enjoy the capability to get up on stepfaster, reducing stress on the airframe and allowing operations from smaller bodies of water. With theadditional horsepower of our upgrade, operatorsget a whole new operating experience from theirCaravan.
This upgrade will instantly increase mission capability, resulting in increased profits with bettersafety margins not to mention the added benefit ofa significant increase in speed. Operators will alsobe very pleased with the near plug and play, bolt onsimplicity of the PT6A-140 engine and associatedkit. The cowl, exhaust and engine mounts are allreused, which makes the Blackhawk XP140upgrade the lowest priced new-engine upgradeavailable on the market.” Blackhawk is takingorders now for June/July deliveries.

The EASA representatives witnessed the entire flighttest and preliminary analysis of the recorded noisedata, weather parameters and the aircraft parameters shows that the noise levels are within theacceptable limits specified by ICAO for ALH”, saidMr. T. Suvarna Raju, CMD, HAL.
The trials involved advance acoustic programmingand compensation of atmospheric variables againstmeasured noise levels. A Spanish company AnotecConsulting was contracted to provide hardware, software and technical support for the programme.
The objective of this process is to measure the external aircraft noise levels in three flight conditions:take-off, approach and flyover. The noise measure-ment test programme starts with the identification of low acoustic profile test site and meeting the geometrical size of runway and cross runway distances. Dhruv is an all-weather helicopter whichcan carry 10-16 people at heights of 10,000 feet.

SAFETYFlight Safety FoundationAnnounces BARS for OffshoreHelicopter Operations StandardThe Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) announcedtoday the expansion of its Basic Aviation RiskStandard (BARS) suite of documents aimed atmanaging aviation risk for contracted aircraftoperations.
The Basic Aviation Risk Standard for OffshoreHelicopter Operations (BARS OHO) continues thetheme of presenting a standard in a risk-basedformat using applicable threats and controls.
For contracted aviation operationssupporting the oil and gas sector a comprehensive risk-based standard dedicated tooffshore helicopters is an industry first.
The aim of providing a standard dedicated to offshore helicopter operations, as opposed toguidelines, builds upon the success of the BARSProgram over the past five years in support ofthe resource sector and provides greater focuson the threats and challenges unique to the offshore helicopter environment.

Xcel Energy inspects more than 320,000 milesof electricity and natural gas infrastructure toensure the safety and reliability of its energysystem. Now with approval of the FederalAviation Administration, Xcel Energy will be ableto more efficiently, effectively and safely monitorits systems using drone technology.
The FAA on May 11 approved Xcel Energy’srequest to operate small unmanned aircraft systems or drones commercially. Xcel Energysought the approval so it can inspect its criticalenergy infrastructure.
Xcel Energy will use drones to visually inspectelectricity transmission and distribution lines, power plants, renewable energy facilities, substations and natural gas transmission anddistribution pipelines.
“We are pleased with the FAA decision as westudy how this new technology can best beused to enhance employee and public safety atour operations,” said Kent Larson, Xcel Energy’sexecutive vice president and group president ofoperations.
The Kalashnikov Concern is present-ed its new unmanned aerial vehicles and landing boats at the Integrated Safety & SecurityExhibition (ISSE-2015) in Moscow )19-22 May).
They announcedthere that it has begun investing in dual capabilityand paramilitaryproducts.
“As part of the 2020 development strategy,Kalashnikov Concern is expanding its abilities to become a system integrator of duel-purposesolutions for the convenience of potential customers,” Aleksey Krivoruchko, the CEO ofKalashnikov Concern, said in a statement.
In February ofthis year,KalashnikovConcern boughtcontrollingshares (51 percent) in ZALAAero Group, anair drone maker; and Rybinsk Shipyard, a ship-building company. ZALA Aero produces a numberof winged and copter drones that can beequipped with a variety of cameras and sensors of the client’s choice.
The company’s ZALA 421-08M small class (up to four kilograms) drone has an automatic tar-get-tracking module, a unique feature for a droneof its class and size.Another of the company’sdrones, the ZALA 421-22 copter, is capable notonly of conducting video surveillance, but ofguarding a set perimeter or monitoring a designated infrastructure installation.

The business aviation community had achance to discuss its concerns over the likelihood of remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) flying in civil airspace during a conference session at the recentEBACE event.
Devising rules that ensure safety while impeding neither progress nor prosperity is the main challenge, the audience heard. The bottom line is that the integration of RPAS intothe same airspace as other commercial trafficis only a question of time.
Among the interested parties represented werethe Unmanned Vehicle Systems International(UVSI) and AeroSpace and Defence IndustriesAssociation of Europe (ASD) lobbying associa-tions, Eurocontrol’s Sesar program, theEuropean Aviation Safety Agency and RPASmanufacturer SenseFly.
“We have to create universally acceptedrules,” Peter van Blyenburgh, UVSI president, emphasized. A number of countries (15 inEurope) have started creating rules, withoutany harmonization, he said. Those proliferatingrules do not even include a pilot approvalprocess, he noted. Yet, there are over 3,000commercial operators in Europe–half of themin France.
