What do you find important when choosinga supplier?

Fast response, great support and good product availability.

Are there any additional factors you consider when choosing a chemicals supplier? Especially when it comes todeicing issues and cleaning products.

When choosing a supplier of chemicals it’simportant to know that the products are assafe as they can be. I prefer to work withtrusted chemicals, not harming me or ourpersonnel. In today’s strive for a better environment we need to trust the chemicalshave been produced in a safe way and thatthe nature won’t take too much damage incase of an eventual pollution.

Grafair has a strong link with the USA(Founder Mr Bengt Grafström lived in theUSA to manage Swedens largest aviationschool for aspiring pilots). Despite this, youchoose to work with European suppliers.Is that an informed choice?

The link to the USA is still strong since webuy a lot of spare parts, aircraft tow trucks,service equipment and so on from the land of aviation. But the choice to work withEuropean suppliers of de-icing fluids,cleaning detergents, other chemicals and so on is conscious. A local supplier knows the local regulations. Besides that, the leadtimes when ordering products will be shortened when the distributor is located not too far away.

How would you describe the service Aero-Sense is giving you?

We are honored to be working with Aero-Sense. They have a great local knowledge, and a very good range of products. We are using the Aero-Sense products for in-flight de-icing (TKS) and alsothe ICE-5 anti-icing additive for the turbinefuel. When performing aircraft interior andexterior cleaning, we are currently almostsolely using Aero-Sense products. What weare hoping to see from Aero-Sense in thefuture are even more cleaning products forthe interiors like an Ink and Stain Remover for leathers and a general leather cleaner/conditioner.

Aero-Sense has ambitious future plans

Aero-Sense will be expanding in many waysduring the coming months!

We are adding a completely new line of commercial aircraft interior cleaning and caring products to the product catalogue.The aircraft industry has been facing severaloutbreaks of communicable diseases in therecent years. Now more than ever, the importance of aircraft cleaning and hygienecontrol is emphasized!

Also we are revising labeling and will be presenting a new, even more professional,line of product labels. The aim is to create alabel 100% conform EU-regulations (unlikemany imported chemicals from the UnitedStates), adapted to the REACH regulation. We are working toward even more comprehensive labeling, to guarantee safe material handling.

And last but not least, Aero-Sense is movingto bigger office and warehousing facility inNovember of this year. The fully secured climate controlled environment guarantees an excellent storage condition for all types ofchemicals. Warehouse and offices are ideallylocated next to the highway, which makesthem easily accessible for visitors and freightcarriers.

Two main things: Firstly, we have our own terminal building, ramp and ground servicingequipment, and the ability to provide all necessary servicing in house. This gives usthe possibility to assist all our customers within a few minutes after receiving therequest.

Secondly, we have well educated and highlytrained staff with the intention to provideabsolute top-quality service. The newlocation, which has been operational fromOctober 1st, represents further expansion for Air BP in France following the addition ofPau Pyrenees in July and Cannes Mandelieuin February.

In addition to offering refuelling for Commercialand General Aviation customers, the new Air BPlocation will accept Sterling Card customersmaking it the 44th airport in France to be part of the international Sterling Card network.

Air BP was selected to provide the fuel operations owing to its ability to support globalmarketing activity, in addition to its extensivetechnical capabilities and its superior level ofcompetence in providing a safe, fit-for-purposeand reliable service. The new fuelling facilityprovides Jet A-1 and Avgas fuel and is operated by an Air BP operational team. BIQ iscapable of accommodating all types and sizesof aircraft up to an Airbus Corporate Jet (ACJ)and offers a newly refurbished FBO and business aviation terminal with world-classlounges, internet access, catering and a fullconcierge service.

Dornier Do 17moves into next stageof conservation

Dornier Fuselage moves into Conservation Centre.

The world’s last surviving Dornier Do 17 has nowmoved into the second phase of its conservationat the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford.

It’s been a little over 15 months since the aircraft waslifted from the bottom of the Dover Straits and trans-ported to the Museum’s Cosford site for groundbreaking conservation work. The process so far hasseen the aircraft systematically sprayed with a lowconcentration citric acid based solution inside pur-pose built hydration tunnels.

This process has helped to remove marine accretions and subsequently the neutralised corrosion impurities in the aluminium aircraft structure. The project is progressing at a much fasterrate than previously anticipated and the Museum isdelighted to see second stage conservation workcommence on the aircraft’s forward fuselage.Confident that the citric acid solution has done itsjob, the fuselage was removed from the tunnels earlySeptember and has undergone an intense washdown, before being moved into the ConservationCentre.

Aircraft Technician Andy Woods is now working onthe Dornier full time, with his initial efforts focused oninternal cleaning and removing any remaining marinedeposits with the use of plastic scrapers. Controlrods and other smaller items are being carefullyremoved allowing Technicians greater access to theairframe structure beneath. A team of Volunteers willwork on the components removed from the aircraftand which will be put back at a later date.

The construction of the wings has made the processof removing salt and sand from internal sectionsmuch slower than the fuselage. The wing sectionhas recently been subject to a deep clean by a teamof Apprentices and over a tonne of salt and sand hasbeen removed from the aircraft. Further time in thehydration tunnels is required to allow the citric acid todo its work before the wings join the fuselage in theConservation Centre.

Both engines and propellers have been removedfrom the tunnels and mounted on purpose builtstands allowing easier access for Technicians tobegin treatment. During the aircrafts time underwaterthe magnesium components disintegrated but thesteel components remained fully intact. The majority of the marine deposits have now beenremoved and a test section has been coated in a 2-pac polly acrylic mix. The Conservation team atCosford are confident that leaving some of the internal marine deposit on the airframe will providestrength to the fragile aluminium skins. CAV’s TKS-equipped Beechcraft G36 FIKI.

CAV Ice Protection announced it has achievedSupplemental Type Certification (STC) approvalfrom the European Aviation Safety Agency(EASA) certification to install aftermarket TKSsystems for the Beechcraft G36 – allowing flightinto known icing (FIKI).

Already a proven system, CAV Ice Protection earnedFederal Aviation Administration certification for theBeechcraft G36 FIKI configuration on 4 April 2011.

“We are pleased to offer G36 owners in Europe anadditional piece of mind with the FIKI approval”, saidKen Weaver, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.“The TKS system makes a classic, high-performanceaircraft even more capable and flexible.”

The CAV Ice Protection system for the BeechcraftG36 FIKI utilizes a fluid-based technology known asTKS that either prevents the formation of ice orchemically breaks the ice bond and allows ice toshed. The glycol-based TKS fluid exudes from laser-drilled titanium panels on the leading edges ofthe wings, horizontal and vertical tail surfaces. A traditional slinger-ring provides ice protection on

the propeller. The windshield is also protected bytwo on-demand pumps. For emergency or failureconditions, a backup mode is provided. The fluidflows over the protected surfaces and keeps the aircraft virtually ice-free.

The TKS system for the Beechcraft G36 FIKI weighs54 pounds (24.49 kilograms) without fluid and 119pounds (53.97 kilograms) with a full tank of fluid. A full tank of ice protection fluid at 7 gallons (26.49litres) provides up to 2.5 hours of operation.Minimum upkeep is required. As the TKS system isused, it flushes out any accumulation of debris onthe panels. Glycol has cleaning properties and willnot harm the paint finish of the aircraft. There is alsono performance loss; only significant ice protectioncapabilities are added.

Jeff Holden, Sales Manager, noted the importanceof flight into known icing capability to customersglobally. “Flying when ice forecasts make travelimpossible is now possible. The addition of the TKSsystem enhances the safety and utility of the air-craft, truly creating a personal airliner for the owner.”

Bombardier’s Challenger 350 received full type certification from EASA recently, followingsimilar approvals from Transport Canada and theUS FAA in June. With certification in hand,Bombardier is eager to start delivering EASA-registered aircraft to customers.

The OEM also announced that the Learjet 70and Learjet 75 aircraft have received full typecertification from the European Aviation SafetyAgency (EASA).

Overall, both aircraft will provide up to a 9%improvement in field performance under hot andhigh conditions and up to a 4% improvement infuel efficiency.

Cessna received type certification from theFederal Aviation Administration for the CessnaCitation CJ3+. The approval came less than sixmonths after the company introduced the newmodel (in March).

Dassault Falcon Jet, exhibiting at the recent JetExpo in Moscow, stated that Russia continues tobe a very strong market for it. Dassault regis-tered as many Russian orders in the first half of2014 as in all of 2013, leading the company topredict an excellent sales year in the region.

The world’s latest generation commercial airliner,the A350-900, has received Type Certification fromthe European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on30th September 2014. The certified aircraft is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines.Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certificationwill follow shortly.

DAHER-SOCATA today announced its delivery of the first avionics-modernized TBM 700 high-speed turboprop aircraft with a Garmin G600/GTN 750 new-generation glass cockpit avionicsretrofit, replacing mechanical equipment andfirst-generation cathode ray tube (CRT) electronic flight displays.

The Garmin G600 is an instrument panelupgrade that pairs a liquid-crystal primary flightdisplay (PFD) and multi-function display (MFD) in a single 10-inch bezel. Capabilities of itssophisticated graphics include Synthetic VisionTechnology, providing a “virtual reality” perspective view along the aircraft’s flight path.

This upgrade’s cost, including replacement ofthe instrument panel, begins at $120,000 for adual-screen G600 basic package – with an instal-lation time estimated at 250 man-hours.

DAHER-SOCATA offers a more sophisticatedpackage with the combination of G600 and aGarmin GTN 750 GPS/NAV/COM system whichuses a touchscreen interface on a larger displayscreen, offering graphical flight planning,transponder control, audio control and electronicchart capabilities. Ultimate Heli, located in Johannesburg SouthAfrica, will install the PA100 PUREair engineprotection system on their AS350 helicopter.The PA100 PUREair System, has been co-developed by Pall Aerospace and DARTAerospace.

The new system is a totally redesigned,reengineered, and retested engine air protection system that takes the capabilitiesof its EAPS predecessors to the next level.Featuring Pall’s latest PUREair technology,the new system is self-cleaning and virtuallymaintenance-free, unlike other filtration systems qualified for this aircraft.

“The delivery of the Mi-8AMTto the Almaty City RescueService represents another important step in thecontinued development of Russia-Kazakhstancooperation in the operation of Russian helicopter technology,” Russian Helicopters’Deputy CEO for Sales and Marketing GrigoryKozlov said. “Today about 200 helicopters builtat our facilities are operated by private companies and state agencies in Kazakhstan.The civilian helicopter fleet here is growing rapidly, and we are committed to meeting in fullour Kazakh partners’ requirements for the latesthelicopters.”

“The city of Almaty boasts a population of 1.5 million, and is the rapidly growing southern capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
