Jessica Capshaw• Jessica Capshaw was born August 9, 1976, in Columbia, Missouri. She

landed her first major TV role on the sitcom Odd Man Out, in 1999. From 2002 to 2004, she played a lawyer on The Practice. In 2009, she earned the role of Dr. Arizona Robbins on Grey's Anatomy. For her role on Grey's Anatomy, and her earlier work on The L Word, Capshaw has earned a large fan following in the gay and lesbian community.

• Capshaw, who is straight in real life, married entrepreneur Christopher Gavigan in 2004. The couple welcomed their first son in 2007 and a second child in the fall of 2010. Capshaw's son - then 2 years old - was actually the person who first realized that a new baby was on the way. "He pointed to my stomach and said, 'Mommy, baby in your tummy!' I was like, 'What does that mean?'" Capshaw said. "Turned out that I was expecting."

Sarah Drew

• Sarah drew was born October 1, 1980 is an American actress. She is known for playing Hannah Rogers in The WB family drama series Everwood 2004–06 and Dr. April Kepner in the ABC medical drama series Grey's anatomy 2009–present.

• Drew was born in Charlottesville, Virginia and raised in Stony Brook, New York, where she attended The Stony Brook School. Her mother, Dr. Jeannie Drew, is now teaching biology at an independent private school for girls in Manhattan. Her father, Rev. Charles Drew, is the senior pastor at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in New York City. She received a bachelor's degree in drama from the University of Virginia in 2002.[She began acting in school plays, community theatre with Take One Theatre Arts, and summer stock.

Jesse Williams• Jesse Wesley Williams (born August 5, 1981) is an American actor, model, and

activist, best known for his role as Dr. Jackson Avery on the ABC Television series Grey's Anatomy. He also appears in the hit 2013 film Lee Daniels' The Butler as real life civil rights leader Rev. James Lawson. Previous roles include Holden in The Cabin in the Woods (2012), Officer Eddie Quinlan in Brooklyn's Finest (2009) and as Leo, Lena's boyfriend, in the film sequel The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 (2005).

• Williams was born in Chicago, Illinois. His mother, Johanna Chase, is an artist.

Williams has stated that his mother is Swedish American, while his father is of African American and some Seminole descent from Georgia. Williams graduated from Moses Brown School in Providence, Rhode Island in 1998.After high school, his parents each began teaching in the public school system, while his mother maintained her work in pottery.

• Williams graduated from Temple University with a double major in African American Studies and Film and Media Arts Following in the footsteps of his parents, he taught high school in the Philadelphia public school for six years, where he used his degree earned at Temple, to teach American Studies, African Studies, and English.

Patrick Dempsey• Patrick Galen Dempsey was born January 13, 1966 is an American actor and

race car driver, best known for his role as neurosurgeon Dr. Derek Shepherd "McDreamy" on the ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomy. He saw early success as an actor, starring in a number of films in his early 20s, including Can't Buy Me Love 1987 and Lover boy 1989. In the 1990s, he mostly appeared in smaller roles in film and television, before landing a lead role in Sweet Home Alabama 2002, a surprise box office hit. He has since then starred in a number of other films, including Enchanted, Made of Honor, Valentine's Day, Flypaper, Freedom Writers and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

• Dempsey, who maintains a sports car and vintage car collection, also enjoys auto racing in his spare time. He has competed in prestigious pro-am events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Rolex 24 at Daytona sports car race, and Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 off-road race. Prior to the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans, Dempsey declared that he would "walk away" from acting if he could and dedicate himself full-time to motorsports.

• Grey's Anatomy is an American medical drama television series that premiered on the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) as a mid-season replacement on March 27, 2005. The series has aired eleven seasons, and focuses on the fictional lives of surgical interns and residents as they gradually evolve into seasoned doctors, while trying to maintain personal lives and relationships. The title is a play on the name Grey's Anatomy, an English-language human anatomy textbook originally written by Henry Gray. The show's premise originated with Shonda Rhimes, who serves as an executive producer, along with Betsy Beers, Mark Gordon Krista Vern off, Rob Corn, Mark Wilding, and Allan Heinberg. The series was created to be racially diverse, utilizing a color-blind casting technique. While the show is set in Seattle, it is primarily filmed in Los Angeles, California.

• The series' protagonist is Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), who originally is accepted into the residency program at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital. Meredith is assigned to work under Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), along with Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), Dr. George O'Malley (T. R. Knight), Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), and Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers). Following O'Malley's death and Stevens' departure, the hospital's merger with Mercy West brings in Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and Dr. April Kepner (Sarah Drew), in the sixth season.

• The surgical wing is primarily supervised by Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens, Jr.), who is eventually replaced by Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), and later, Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd). Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) is chief of pediatric surgery, Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) is chief of trauma, Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) is an orthopedics attending, and the chief of cardiothoracic surgery has been five different doctors throughout the show: Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington), Dr. Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith), Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), Dr. Jeff Russell (Dominic Hoffman) and Dr. Margaret Pearce (Kelly McCreary). Dr. Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) was the chief of plastic surgery prior to his death. Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) was the chief of neurosurgery. He was later replaced by his sister, Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone). Dr. Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) was the chief of obstetrics-gynaecology and neonatal surgery until she left to pursue private practice in Los Angeles, CA.

• Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington) departs at the conclusion of the third season, after a failed relationship with Dr. Cristina Yang, and is replaced by Dr. Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith), who leaves the show during the fifth season, and later Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), who departs at the end of the eighth season. Introduced at the end of the first season is Dr. Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh), who leaves the show at the end of the third season, in order to launch her own spin-off medical drama Private Practice. Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) and Dr. Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) also enter the show in the second season, while Mark Sloan dies in the premiere of the ninth season. Meredith's half-sister, Dr. Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh), appears in season three and dies at the end of season eight. Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) is given series regular status at the beginning of the sixth season. In the ninth season, a new set of five recurring interns were introduced, with four – Dr. Josephine "Jo" Wilson (Camilla Ludington), Dr. Shane Ross (Gaius Charles), Dr. Stephanie Edwards (Jerrica Hinton) and Dr. Leah Murphy (Tessa Ferrer) – becoming series regulars in the tenth season.

• Grey's Anatomy is the highest-rated drama in the key 18–49 demographic. While the ratings have fallen over the past few seasons, it was once among the overall top-ten rated shows in the United States. Grey's Anatomy has been well received by critics. Considered an impact on culture, the series has received numerous awards, and has also been included in various critics' top ten lists. It is the recipient of the 2007 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series — Drama, and multiple Emmis nominations, including two for Outstanding Drama Series. The show has produced several specials, as well as distributed all seasons to DVD, and released a collection of merchandise. In 2012, Grey's Anatomy was named the fifth-highest revenue earning show, in terms of advertising per half-hour. The series was renewed for a tenth season on May 10, 2013, which premiered on September 26, 2013 with a two-hour episode.

• On May 8, 2014, ABC renewed the series for an eleventh season that will air from 2014–2015. The season premiere was shown on Thursday, September 25, 2014. After four seasons outside the top 25 rated shows, Grey's Anatomy was the number 15 show in the 2013–2014 season; the show's tenth. The show also re-entered the top five shows in the 18–49 viewer demographic.
