Just as Janus was the god of doorways and beginnings, The Janus School is a new beginning for students with learning differences. In Janus’ nurturing and supportive environment, students who have struggled to learn discover their value and their own voice while they gain the skills they need to fully reach their potential.

The support we receive from people like you helps to make the opportunity of a new beginning possible. Contributions to the Annual Fund help to close the gap between what tuition covers and the actual expense of educating a student at The Janus School. Generous businesses who participate in the Educational Improvement Tax Credit program (EITC) help to ensure that Janus students will have scholarship monies available to them. Your support powers our programs, ensures that we have equipment to teach, and helps provide aid to families. Without your help, The Janus School simply would not exist.

Planned giving is a great way

to make a gift to The Janus

School that will continue to

make a difference for years

to come. Your generous

contributions enable us to

provide a life-altering education

to boys and girls who deserve

the opportunity for a future

without limits.

Stocks and publicly traded securities are

easy to give and offer great tax advantages.

Stock can be transferred electronically or

you can mail us the stock certificate and

a signed stock power for each certificate.

Appreciated securities that you have held

for more than one year can be transferred

directly to The Janus School. By doing

this, you will pay no capital gains tax on

the transaction and you can deduct the

full fair market value which is calculated

by averaging the high and low share price

on the gift date. If you are holding stock

that has decreased in value, sell the stock

yourself to realize the loss and take the

deduction for tax purposes. You can then

make a gift to The Janus School and take the

charitable contribution deduction.

Appreciated SecuritiesA Charitable Lead Trust provides current income to The Janus School while sheltering your heirs’ inheritance from taxes. Income generated from the assets placed in trust is paid to the school for a period of years, after which the property is transferred to your heirs at a substantial tax savings. A Charitable Remainder Trust irrevocably transfers cash, securities, or property to a trust for the benefit of The Janus School. The donor or designated beneficiary receives a fixed dollar amount or percentage of the assets at least annually for life or for a fixed term up to 20 years. Upon death, or the end of the term, the trust terminates and the assets are transferred to The Janus School.

Life Income

If you have life insurance policies that are no longer needed, you may either name The Janus School as the beneficiary or donate a policy to us. If you give a paid policy, you can receive an income tax deduction equal to the lesser of the cash value of the policy or the premiums paid. To qualify for a federal charitable contribution deduction on a gift of an existing policy, you must name The Janus School as owner and beneficiary.

Life Insurance

With a gift in your will, you can be part of the education of future generations. Bequests permit donors to commit assets that they might need during their lifetimes. You can bequeath a percentage of your estate, a fixed dollar amount, or specific personal property.

Bequests

There are other ways to make a significant future gift to The Janus School while retaining, or in many cases, increasing the income you receive from the asset used to make the gift. For more information,

please contact our Director of Development, Nicholas Chapman at 717.653.0025.

We believe all great minds do not think alike. The Janus School helps students with learning differences so they can access their full

potential. We are the only independent day school in Central Pennsylvania dedicated to the needs of students with dyslexia, AD(H)D, non-verbal

learning difficulties and Asperger’s syndrome. We focus on each student’s unique learning style, giving them the tools they need to achieve academic

success and a happy, independent life long after they leave The Janus School.
