Well here we are, half way through Term one already. Students have returned this week from their short Cyclone Lam enforced break and have all been hard at work. The school itself has suffered no significant damage. As part of teachers’ “toolkit”, DoE supplies each teacher with a laptop. Teachers this week have begun receiving their new one. The fortunate part of this program for the school and students in general is that the school gets to keep the older ones. The intention is, in turn to upgrade these to replace older slow computer attached to Smartboards or replace older desktops in classrooms. Whilst this newsletter is sent out Thursday, I would like to thank the East Arnhem Blues Society / Toy Run for their donation of $4,500 to our Learning Centre. Dan Wagg is presenting the cheque at our whole school assembly this week (tomorrow) on behalf of EABS. Our Elective program for student from Year2 to Year6 starts this week of a Friday afternoon. A wide variety of activities are on offer to the students from sports such as golf and footy, to cooking, to “magic” card tricks, to “Man versus Wild”. Thanks to Mrs Blundell for taking on the organisation of this and the Yr2-6 teachers for teaching/sharing their specials skills. On wet weather days all children and staff need to take extra care when moving around the verandas and the covered areas especially the hall.
On a moderate wet day children will spend their recess and lunch breaks outside, but under cover and under teacher supervision. Access to the
library and the computer lab is
available.
On extreme wet days children will remain in their classrooms at recess and/or lunch breaks. Teachers will buddy classes for these breaks so they can have some release. Children will be provided with activities.
Please talk to your child about being safe in wet weather at school and our expectations of their good behaviour when there is a change of routine.
