Author Visit by Stewart Ross

On the afternoon of Monday 17th November, Stewart Ross, the author of The Soterion Mission and Revenge of the Zeds, will be visiting Kingdown to talk to students in year 8. His books, which have excellent reviews on Amazon, are about a horrific mutation in human DNA resulting in a world of children and adolescents struggling to survive in which each of them has only nineteen years to live: nineteen years in which to be born, grow up, grow old and die.

He believes in getting out and about amongst young people inspiring them to read and comes highly recommended by the librarian at St John’s school in Marlborough who said he interacted brilliantly with the whole of year 8. Copies of his books will be available at a price of £5 each and he is happy to sign them.

I have one copy of each of the books in the library if any student would like to borrow them and familiarise themselves with the story beforehand. Please encourage your children to purchase a copy of one of his books as Stewart does not charge us a fee for his visit. Many thanks.

Brilliant Boccia

On Tuesday 4th November 2014, there was a fantastic event focusing upon a sport called Boccia held in the Kingdown Sports Centre. This was set up by Mr Widger and led by a team of Kingdown students. Boccia is very similar to Boules in nature where the aim is to throw your ball and get it as close to the jack as possible.

The first activity led by the Kingdown students was a warm up and this involved a boogie. Next, the Kingdown students set up a competition where the participants sat on a bench and roll balls into hoops. This was to practice their aim. After this, we had a competition. The competition was excellent and the pink team won. It was very interesting learning about a different sport and it was also fun.

I would definitely help out at this event again in the future.

Computer Suite

E14 (computer suite) will only be open at break times for those students who have school work to do. This has always been the case, but recently there have been issues with behaviour: students logging on to games and generally being loud and misbehaving which makes it very difficult to supervise as well as supervising the library which is a quiet area for students to read or study.

If students are not working quietly in E14, they will be asked to log off and leave.
