Mrs. Sadowski, girl's physical education teacher, and Mrs.

Woodbrey, Media Specialist, are working with students to

analyze a variety of physical skills (push-ups, static holds,

shooting a basketball, etc.) using the Coach's Eye app on

iPods. Students record each other performing these skills

using Coach's Eye, then use the "tools" (angle, line, timer) to

analyze and improve upon performance. The goal is to per-

fect technique and form within the physical task.

My classroom practices blended learning where each student spends one

on one (1:1) time learning with the teacher. When my students are not getting 1:1 time they work inde-pendently on computers strengthening their skills using websites such as Mobymax, TenMarks, Lexia, Starfall, and Unique Learning Systems.

My students and I love using the free iPad app,

Classkick! It helps me give immediate feedback to my

students and they work at their own pace. I can see

every student’s work progressing as they use their

iPads, provide immediate feedback and privately

help those who struggle…all within the app itself.

Computer teacher Amanda Minarik and I worked together with the students to teach them how to use Google Slides, Docs, and Classroom so they could work together in real time and receive feedback on a continuous basis. The stu-dents then worked on creating assignments and projects using Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, in-teractive Google Docs (with referencing), and Word tables and charts to complete UBD (Understanding By Design) lessons. All assignments and projects were submitted through Google Classroom. An example of a UBD lesson would be "Our Trip to Hawaii."

Our students are loving our Makerspace program; an area of our media center where students can learn about program-ming, electronics, and more. Students are currently learning how to program our robots, Dot and Dash, using Blockly through the website code.org.

My English Language Arts A 3 classes did a project about Edgar Allan Poe’s classic, “The Fall of the House of Usher”. We used the subscription site www.storyboardthat.com.

The students explained the different literary devices used in the story, explained the themes, and outlined the plot.

Gerrymandering is a tough idea for 7th grade students to under-stand, but in playing a game with a purpose, students learn! Us-ing laptops, my 7th graders take on the role of consultant to help redraw districts for the House of Representatives with the Redis-tricting Game at: www.redistrictinggame.org/game/launchgame.php.

While reading Brian’s Winter, my 6th graders learned how Brian sur-vived a plane crash in the Canadian bush by using his own knowledge and re-sources from the wreck and the environment.

Each 6th grade class was assigned a different location for their “plane crash”. They researched different areas like woodlands, coastal areas, or mountains to discover what resources would be available to help them survive. In December, students will be completing scale designs and building the structures outside their class-rooms. They will then be taking photos to use in the creation of videos. Once movies are complete, students will upload them to their class blogs.

Students in Mrs. Lochner’s sixth grade classes at Lock-

mar Elementary School are using their Yoga Laptops to

participate in the 2015 Global Read Aloud by reading

a selected book and making as many global connec-

tions as possible. Students have created their own

personal blogs using Kidblog as part of their Daily 5

writing activities, making connections with other clas-

ses in North Carolina, Las Vegas, Ohio, and Canada by

posting their responses to

the book on their blogs

and responding to stu-

dents in other classes.

For my students, especially those with physical limitations, it has been a wonderful asset to allow choice where stu-dents can submit written work on Google Docs and Google Classroom rather than the traditional paper and pencil as-signment. We also use Google Slides to create vocabulary study slideshows; they’re great for review!

We have started using Google Classroom this year due

to the availability of computer carts in our ELA class-

rooms. It has been revolutionary to flip the classroom to

a student self-directed model, in which they receive in-

struction on a subject and then create fabulous projects

to turn into the Classroom...all without a single paper!

In the last month, 5th and 6th graders created digital projects through the collaborative effort of their teachers, district technology integrator Melissa Woods, and myself. Sixth grade students re-searched ancient laws through the use of Google Classroom and created iMovies about their find-ings. Similarly, fifth grade stu-dents were researched the effects

drought has on a civilization. Those findings were documented using an app called Explain Eve-rything.

"When one teaches, two learn."

Fourth grade students at Sea Park Ele-mentary are creating quizzes on any subject they are currently learning. They create these quizzes with Google forms on their Chromebooks. They share them to their teacher, Mrs. Schneider, before they can quiz each other. They must use their textbook and notes to create these assess-ments. Students are engaged and ex-cited about what they are doing.

I’m trying to integrate the use of more computer-based technology, such as Google Forms, into my curriculum for differentiating and remediating. I’ve created Google Forms which “branch” to different questions based upon the answer the student last gave. If an answer is correct, students progress to the next question which is at a higher complexity level or addresses an-other topic. But, if an answer is incorrect, they are redirected to some other resource (movie clip, picture, etc.) to help remediate their misunderstanding.

“How did you do that?” “What program is that?” “Can you teach me that, too?”

These are some of the questions asked after Christa McAuliffe Elementary combined technology and talent to Haunt the Library. Media Specialist Mrs. Maureen Tassone intro-duced PowerPoint, iMovie, Voki.com, and Tellagami Edu to the students while they took the tour. The next unit of study in the media center will include using all of these pro-grams!

Every 4 years since 1995, Mrs. Tassone has produced the “Haunted Library” with her 6th grade students. The students perform a tour of the media center “in a spooky way”, teaching the younger students about the library as live actors

This year, 800 students and adults took the tour on October 29th and 30th. The student guides led the groups through each area, encouraging them to “not get lost in a library.”

As participants walked into the “Biography Cemetery”, the student guide played the Voki George Washington video and taught the students about the Biography section. Sixth graders narrated the iMovie video about Destiny, the online catalog system that BPS students use to look up books in the media center. Another iMovie was created using the Tellagami Edu app to inform stu-dents about the Fiction, Nonfiction, and Reference Sections. PowerPoint Presentations played on a loop were used on 12 computers, lighting the eerie pathway. Using this tech-nology, and the talents of the 6th graders, the Haunted Library project was another huge success. Mrs. Tassone modeled these technologies to spark student interest. Beginning in November, she started to teach all of those programs with her students. So the questions, “How did you do that?”, “What program is that?”, and “Can you teach me that, too?” will all be answered very soon!

My TK 1 students used iPads and both the Tellagami and Explain Everything apps to create “All About Me” videos.

My students are also using Yogas to learn about the First Thanksgiving through sites like Scholastic so they can compare and contrast the lives of Pilgrim children to children today.
