The “3 Rs” of the New Deal

• Relief: Programs that would help immediately by employing people.

• Recovery: Programs that would help the country rebuild. Attempted to help nonbank sectors of the economy recover. For example, the agricultural and housing sectors.

• Reform: Used legislation to prevent this disaster from happening again. Focused on banks, labor, labor unions, etc.

Programs

• CCC - Civilian Conservation Corps 1933-Public works (infrastructure), structures and trails in parks-Civilian voluntary “army” = food, clothing, jobs

• CWA – Civil Works Administration 1933– High paying jobs in construction (ended in 1934)– Bridges, schools, sewer pipelines
