OBJECTIVE OF STUDY

In today’s world of recruitment it is very important for a candidate to have work experience. It is mentioned clearly in all advertisements. The University of SNDT has helped its students in gaining the practical exposure by making it mandatory for the students to get practical knowledge along with the theoretical knowledge.

The objectives of the summer training are as follows:

To collect the financial information from the bank so as to find out the working capital financing process of bank.

To be able to apply the theoretical knowledge obtained at the in the practical manner in the actual business environment.

To get the knowledge about the organisation problems, perceptions and challenges.

To interact with the managers of the company and gain knowledge through their real life experience.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The data collected for the project was in the form of written as well as verbal information regarding the working capital financing by the bank.

Research in common parlance refers to search of knowledge. One can also define research as, “a scientific search for pertinent information on a specific topic”. In fact, research is an art of scientific investigation. The advanced learner’s dictionary of current English lays down the research as, “a careful investigation inquiry especially through search for new fact in any bank of knowledge.”

We all possess the vital instinct of inquisitiveness when anything unknown confronts us; inquisitiveness forces us for a probe and to attain a full understanding of the unknown. This inquisitiveness is mother of knowledge and the method which man employs for obtaining the knowledge of whatever unknown, can be termed as research.

Scientific Research

Hudson Maxim said, “Progress is born out of inquiry. Doubt is often better than overconfidence, for it leads to inquiry and it further leads to invention.” He told this in context where the significance of

Page 6: format of cover page

research can well be understood& increased amount of research makes the progress possible. Research inculcates thinking & it also promotes the development of logical habits like thinking, organizing, etc. .

Primary data can be collected either through experiment or through survey.

If the researcher conducts an experiment, he observes measurable quantities or data, with help of which he examines the truth which is contained in the hypothesis.

But in the case of a survey, data can be collected by following ways:-

1. Primary data collection method

2. Secondary data collection method

Page 7: format of cover page

Primary Data :

Primary data are the information collected or generated by the researcher for the purpose of preparing project. This data is freshly collected and thus happens to be original. This type of data is more reliable. It is expensive and time – consuming.

There are 3 methods of collecting the Primary data:-

1) Observation Method

2) Interview Method

3) Questionnaire Method

The method used for this project is Questionnaire method.

Questionnaire method

This is the most frequently used method of data collection. It consists of questions printed or typed in a defined order on a form or sets of forms. It is usually used when the researcher wants to collect the data about personal preferences, attitudes & opinions. Questions formed reflect simplicity, celerity and reduce the time required for its conduction.

Interview

Interviews were arranged with the company’s expert Officers, Executive & Managers regarding my topics.

Page 8: format of cover page

Secondary Data :

Secondary Data is the data which is readily available & useful information. It refers to the information that has been collected by someone else and not by the researcher. It is the data which has already passed through statistical process. It may be published or unpublished data.

The following are the means of secondary data used in this project :

1) Prospectus

2) Magazines

3) Journals

4) Annual reports

5) Internet.

Steps for doing research :-

1. Selection of Topic :

Selection of the topic is the most important criteria for any research to start.

2. Main Objective :

Every research has an objective, why it is been conducted.

3. Types of research methodology adopted in the project4. Analytical Method :

Collection of facts, information, examples, evaluation etc.

Page 9: format of cover page

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

Generally banks do not allow the outsiders to have any study or research work in banks. Therefore, getting the information for project work in banks was itself very difficult. Due to confidentiality some important information lacked accuracy and hence approximations were used.

The loan sanctioning procedure is chalked out by the top management and as per the norms and rules issued by reserve bank of India (RBI). Therefore the project is not decision by itself but an aid to the management regarding the procedural aspect and loopholes of loan sanction. The project is based on theoretical guidelines as per the situations prevalent at the time of practical training. Hence, it may not apply to different situations.

The time span of project, 2 weeks, was short and acts as a major constraint to the project. Moreover, studying the guidelines and applying it practically within such short time span was a task of great pressure.
