In partnership with the University of Dayton, the Institute for School and Parish Development (ISPD) is pleased to offer three new on-line summer courses beginning the week of June 15, 2020.

• For Catholic Parishes▷ Moving Your Catholic Parish Forward NOW: How to Create a Plan of Action to Face COVID-19 Challenges through People Engagement

• For Catholic Schools▷ Moving Your Catholic School Forward NOW: How to Create a Plan of Action to Face COVID-19 Challenges through People Engagement▷ 15 More Lessons Learned in 30+ Years in Catholic School Development: Moving Forward with Valuable Operational Vitality Lessons Midst the Challenges of COVID-19

Titled On-line Summer Institute, 2020, each separate course will award Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and a Certificate of Completion from the University of Dayton. Students not interested in the above are invited to audit any one or more of the courses.

Founded in 1989, the Institute for School and Parish Development’s mission has been to teach, hence the word institute. Faced with challenging decisions that are being made and will need to be made in the future, many Catholic schools and parishes need direction, organization, structure, processes, and action plans in order to prevail in these times. With instruction being provided by ISPD’s associates and guest faculty members, these three separate courses are designed to teach the processes that schools and parishes need now as they navigate through these challenging times.

There are different pricing options for individuals and teams, plus specific opportunities to directly connect via Zoom sessions and discuss course content and how it applies to your Catholic school and/or parish. That is available for both those who seek credit as well as those who audit the course(s). In addition, should you or your parish or school be challenged with course payment at this time, please let us know, and we will be glad to work with you.

To register, please click on the registration link (second to last page in the booklet) for whichever course(s) in which you may be interested. Once we receive your registration and know the course and the plan you wish to take, we will follow up with a confirmation letter which will include the link to make your payment.

We invite you to join us! We stand strong with the University of Dayton in continuing to provide positive direction, step-by-step processes, and people engagement methods to build your community and chart a successful path to the future. We look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Frank DonaldsonPresident

Upon hearing about these three unique and separate course offerings from ISPD, a

Catholic school/parish leader responded with this statement:

“What folks like me are going to be tempted to do--out of dread for the unknown and to appear ‘on

the ball’ with our communities-- is make too many unilateral decisions with a few people on how to

confront COVID-19 challenges next year; whereas, I think ISPD can help us create strategic action

plans that build up the school and the parish. On the one hand, we have the greatest challenge ever

confronting us in our lifetime as principals, presidents, and pastors. On the other hand, we also have

the greatest opportunity to ‘rebrand’ and ‘reposition’ ourselves, uniting our communities as never

before, if we go about it the right way. We need to seize this opportunity rather than dread it.”

These courses are ideal for pastors, school presidents, principals, development/

advancement directors, enrollment management directors, stewardship directors,

board and council members, faculty and staff members, parish staff, ministry leaders,

volunteers, and other Catholic leaders.

Grow professionally in your development/advancement ministry.

CLASS I• Outline of Course• Lesson 1: Open Wide the Catholic School Development Box!▷ This lesson teaches the value of your Catholic school community (faculty/staff, parents, alumni, boards and councils, students, past parents, grandparents, etc.) understanding development/advancement – especially in today’s world – and the importance of their active participation.

• Lesson 2: Understand the Basics: The Catholic School Development Pyramid of Success.▷ Educating the administration, development/advancement/marketing personnel, and volunteers on the foundational principles of excellent Catholic School Development – as applied to COVID-19 challenges – is essential.

• Lesson 3: Remember You Only Get One Chance to Make a First Impression.▷ Making your Back-to-School meetings, website, social media presence, school events, and processes the most meaningful in recent history will strike the perfect chord to evolve into the 2020 – 2021 school year.

CLASS II• Lesson 4: Make a Positive and Lasting Impression at Open House.▷ Whether it be virtual Open House and Tour or a traditional Open House or Tour at your school, it will be important to assure these events are everlasting.

• Lesson 5: Take 10 Steps to Engage People Who Can Make a Difference.▷ Making sure you continue to personally connect with influential/affluential people – using all methods and ways of communication – will continue to be the cornerstone of your development/advancement efforts.

• Lesson 6: We Are Many; We Are One: Recognize the Value of Parish and School Collaboration.▷ Now is the time for parish and school unity – moving forward with collaborative efforts that will join the parish and school closer than ever before.

Page 10: For Catholic Parishes People Engagement...Father Jim Manning, Pastor St. Mary the Assumption Parish Springboro, OH Joe Therber, President Scecina Memorial High School Indianapolis,

CLASS III• Lesson 7: Reinvent Your School Every 5 to 7 Years.▷ A prophetic lesson written over one year ago that will apply to the COVID-19 challenges of today.

• Lesson 8: Affirm and Appreciate.▷ At the heart of our renewal will be our ability to continue to build a culture of what ISPD calls AWE: Affirming, Welcoming and Appreciating

• Lesson 9: Get Out of the Office: The Value of Conversation and the Personal Invitation.▷ Whether it is virtual or in-person, building relationships and personally invited people to belong will make the difference in whether your Catholic school is going to survive or prevail.

CLASS IV• Lesson 10: Implement the Principal/President Cabinet and/or the National Advisory Board.▷ Now is the time to reach out across your community and across the country and invite and engage people onto cabinets and advisory groups – your alumni, past parents, grandparents, community members, and more have a lot of wisdom to share.

• Lesson 11: Successfully Invite Giving: One on One and in Small Group Settings.▷ As we move forward and seek to regain our financial footing, it will be important for principals, pastors, development/advancement officers, and Catholic school leaders to invite people to invest now and in the future. Personal invitations will be the key to future success.

• Lesson 12: Explain the GAP.▷ Making sure all parents, faculty/staff, and boards/councils understand the budgeting process – especially now – will be important as you begin to evolve into the 2020—2021 school year.

CLASS V• Lesson 13: Research Best Practices in Catholic School Development.▷ Sharing best practices from ISPD’s on-line students over the past two years, plus sharing the results of ISPD’s COVID-19 surveys, will continue to prove beneficial as your Catholic school moves into the future. We learn from others.

• Lesson 14: Understand the ISPD Enrollment Management “Dashboard.”▷ Recently created by ISPD, this visual will show 15 separate areas of Enrollment Management and the activities and processes associated with each – both in normal time as well as the present. If Enrollment Management is going to be everyone’s responsibility, Lesson 14 will be the anchor for educating many in your Catholic school, especially as you move into the 2020 – 2021 school year.

• Lesson 15: Avoid and Correct the Most Common Catholic School Development Mistakes.▷ By recognizing the most frequently mismanaged and misunderstood areas of Catholic School Development/Advancement, you will be able to avoid pitfalls and “potholes” that could stunt your immediate advancement as you move through this summer and into the fall.
