Why do Germans eat so much sausage?

Historically, Germans did not want to waste any part of the animal that is the tongue, liver, heart. Sausage was an easy way to use these parts. The butcher grinds up these parts and mixes in with the meat to make sausage. Also, sausages were created to help preserve meat. This was important in areas where refrigeration was poor or unavailable.
