Projects FMCG Dairy Plant– Pump addition Takanini, Auckland The Project The client wanted to split a manifold on a FMCG Dairy site that was feeding 1 pump in a very congested area to feed 2 pumps for improving operability and flexibility of their process. The project was located inside the “Red Line” or Hygienic Area of their Food Processing Plant. 3D Laser Scanning was utilized to capture the as- built data of the existing Food Processing area concentrating on the location of the new pump, the Ripening Tanks, & the existing piping for Tie-In locations in the extremely concentrated area. This was critical in ensuring that all possible interferences and clashes were identified and avoided in the design of the pump suction piping, the pump discharge piping, & the new pump location. Time was saved by collecting all relevant dimensional data of everything pertaining to the location of the new pump and clearances for the Tie-in’s and pipe routing over the existing piping, equipment locations, & Ripening Tanks. The Delivery Upon processing of the collected data a fully registered 3D point cloud was created from the scan data. That point cloud was then exported to Autodesk ReCap for use in Plant 3D That 3D point cloud was then used as an as-built reference in the design of the piping Tie-in’s, pipe routing of the pump suction & discharge lines, locating the placement of the new Ripen pump. The 3D point cloud proved invaluable in garnering dimensional data for all kinds of different applications to aid the project downstream of the initial design. One such discovery was the interference of the existing electrical panel door to the new piping, the scan data allowed Babbage to identify this clash early on so that a suitable solution could be enacted prior to work commencing. Another was utilized months later when a drainage study was initialized, the scan data collected was instrumental in creating a floor “heat map” that showed easily the drainage patterns of the area.
