FIU’s Model United Nations team bested more than 183 delegations from around the world at the April 2011 National Model United Nations in New York City. The FIU students left the competition with the Outstanding Delegation award as well as top honors - Outstanding Delegate in Committees awards – for each of its members. More than 5,000 university students from five continents participated in the competition.

FIU, Miami-Dade County Public Schools and JPMorgan Chase have come together to make a major investment of resources and support to help improve student learning and graduation rates at Miami Northwestern Senior High School. The project, “The Education Effect,” is made possible by a $1 million grant from JPMorgan Chase.

Scientist honored with presidential award
Professor Mary Jo Trepka in FIU’s Robert Stempel College of Public Health was named in September 2011 one of the recipients of the Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers. The award, given to Trepka for her research
on racial disparities on AIDS survival, is among the most prestigious given to U.S. researchers.
Alumna to advise Obama Administration
FIU alumna Teresita Fernandez ’90, a MacArthur Genius Award-winning visual artist, was selected in September 2011 to serve on the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, a federal panel that advises the president, Congress and governmental
agencies on national matters of design and aesthetics. In just nine years, FIU Football has captured national attention, winning the 2010 Sun Belt Conference Championship and then winning its first bowl game in the Panthers’ first national television appearance on ESPN.
The excitement has carried into the 2011 season, as FIU Stadium saw a record attendance of 22,682 on Homecoming Day. FIU will begin expanding the stadium in November enclosing the north side, adding new suites and an additional, larger stadium club in time for the 2012 season.

In just nine years, FIU Football has captured national attention, winning the 2010 Sun Belt Conference Championship and then winning its first bowl game in the Panthers’ first national television appearance on ESPN.
The excitement has carried into the 2011 season, as FIU Stadium saw a record attendance of 22,682 on Homecoming Day. FIU will begin expanding the stadium in November enclosing the north side, adding new suites and an additional, larger stadium club in time for the 2012 season.

Winning on the international stage
FIU’s Model United Nations team bested more than 183 delegations from around the world at the April 2011 National Model United Nations in New York City. The FIU students left the competition with the Outstanding Delegation award as well as top honors - Outstanding Delegate in Committees awards – for each of its members. More than 5,000 university students from five continents participated in the competition.
Creating partnerships for change
FIU, Miami-Dade County Public Schools and JPMorgan Chase have come together to make a major investment of resources and support to help improve student learning and graduation rates at Miami Northwestern Senior High School. The project, “The Education Effect,” is made possible by a $1 million grant from JPMorgan Chase.
