GREETING SHARING NEWS OF THE CHURCH ALIVE PASSING OF THE PEACE
OF CHRIST CALL TO WORSHIP (based on Isaiah 1:16-18; 2:3c,5; Hebrews
4:16) “Come – wash yourselves and be clean,” says the Lord. “Give
up your evil ways.” “Learn to do good, to seek justice, to help the
oppressed.” “Come now,” says the Lord. “Let’s settle this. Though
your sins are like scarlet I will make them white as snow.” We come
to the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy
and find grace to help in time of need! Come – let us now walk in
the light of the Lord. We come, so that the Lord may teach us His
ways and that we may walk in His paths!
HYMN “O Master, Let Me Walk with Thee”
Church of St Stephen, Downsview; North York, Ontario
OPENING PRAYER Loving and Gracious God, thank You for loving me
more than I will ever understand. I accept Your love, Your
forgiveness, and Your grace. Thank You for sending Jesus to rescue
me when I have been lost, and to show me, by example, how to walk
with You. Help me as I seek to walk with You individually and in
community with this local church. Guide and direct our steps as we
practice the vital spiritual disciplines of worship and prayer,
Bible study and listening, serving others, giving generously, and
sharing our story. Grow us into faithful followers of Jesus Christ,
our crucified King. It is in His name we pray. Amen.

Commitments Gracious and loving God, Giver of all that is good and
true, beautiful and life-giving: These pledge cards represent our
sweat, our lives, our dreams. The pledges we make on these cards
represent all the awesome gifts that You have given us. They are
pledged in thanksgiving for all we have received, for all we have
been inspired to be, for all we are challenged to become, in this
place. May they be the first fruits of all we have and not what we
have left over, for we want to give with the same generosity that
You have given to us. May we see them as our offering to You,
filled with possibilities. May we hold this image in our hearts and
minds so that as we watch our offerings come each week to Your
church, we can see our very selves as a part of those offerings. We
come together as Your church; may we be a living sacrifice to You
through our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our
witness, in Christ’s name. Amen. - The Rt. Rev. Greg Rickel

Volunteers are critical to providing the 11:00 Sunday morning
in-person worship. If you are comfortable and able
to participate in person, please visit the website:
https://tinyurl.com/AmesFUMCinperson to volunteer your help with
the precautionary measures needed to make the service possible.
Thank you very much for considering! If there are not enough
volunteers signed up by Thursday, the in person service will have
to be cancelled for that particular week.

included in this. The Hair-Raising Fundraiser has begun! Go to
www.fumcamesevents.com to donate in honor of one of the
participants or you can send a check to the church with Hair and

hair loss due to cancer treatment, alopecia, or burns.
Hello from Youth Ministries! Please again accept our thanks for
those that helped with the Thank you bags project. You will see a
slide during the service on Sunday that has a few of the kids in it
as they deliver the bags to Northcrest. Such a great project! Next
up is Christmas! Our youth will be working to prepare a gift that
will be included in the Christmas bags and boxes that will be
picked up/sent out from the church this Christmas. It's wonderful
to have so many hands on opportunities for the youth to get
involved in purpose driven community events. Up with Puppets will
be meeting this Sunday (Nov. 1) at 11am via Zoom. Please plan to
join! If this is your first meeting (or 100th), make sure to join.

Sierra Leone, Africa for the next 18 days. Pray for a safe and
healthy trip for her. Thank You. Marlene Bell
Glenys Anderson would like to give everyone a great big thank
you for all of the prayers, cards, calls and visits that she has
had since her son, Tom, was put in the hospital and later
transferred to the Polk City Nursing and Rehab Center.
On Wednesday Glenys called to let me know that she had received
the best birthday present ever. Tom will be transferring from Polk
City to Bethany Life in Story City.
Dear Church Friends, Thank you for the 90th birthday cards that
Paul received...It made our week of quarantine, go much faster and
it was fun to open all of the cards and notes. I’m sorry to have
given some of you the wrong address. We still got them!! The
correct address is: 2200 Hamilton Drive, Unit 503 Ames, Iowa 50014
Thanks again from Diane and Paul

ALL SAINTS DAY Ames First United Methodist Church will be
observing All Saints Day on Sunday, November 8. Service times are
8:30 a.m. & 11:00 a.m. During the worship celebrations we will
name and remember all members and friends of the church who have
died during the past year. On this day we will also dedicate any
memorials and gifts that have been given to the church for service
to this congregation and to the glory of God. We invite you to be
present as we remember your deceased loved one in a meaningful
ritual during the liturgy. Please notify other members of your
extended family to be present as well.
Due to COVID-19, we will only Livestream the 8:30 a.m. service.
Our 11:00 a.m. service will be in-person only, as long as the Ames
schools are having in-person classes on Friday, November 6. (We use
the Ames Community School District as a guide for in-person
worship.) If you attend the 11:00 a.m. service, face masks will be
required along with social distancing. Families will be invited to
stand while their loved ones candle is lit.
It is easy to access our Livestream by going to the church
website: fumcames.org. The worship service will also be available
on the church’s YouTube channel which is also easily accessed from
the website home page under “Worship” then “Recordings”.
We hope that you and your family and friends will be able join
us for worship either live or virtual on November 8 as we celebrate
your loved ones life. May the presence of God continue to give you
strength, peace, comfort and love.
Masks for Sale
Have you noticed the masks that the church staff have been
wearing? These are the masks that the children and leaders received
at the start of the school year as a gift from Children, Family,
& Intergenerational Ministries. We have 25 masks left! CFIM has
decided to try to sell the remaining masks as a fundraiser to help
adopt a family this holiday season. These masks have a cotton inner
layer with a poly/cotton outer layer. They have adjustable ear
loops and an adjustable nose piece. They are very comfortable too!
If you’d like to purchase one for $8, please contact Nicole at
[email protected] or call the church office. If there is still
interest after the 25 are gone, we might work on placing another
order! They could make some great Christmas gifts for family and
friends!

Stewardship -
Don't forget to return your Stewardship Commitment form to the
church office as soon as you are able. If you did not receive a
Stewardship letter this past week, please contact the church office
(515-232-2750 or [email protected]). Check out the our "Give"
webpage (http://fumcames.org/ways-to-give/) that describes the
different ways you can make a gift to the church.
THANK YOU
We would like to thank those of you that participated in our
Silent Auction. We didn’t receive any bids on the 2 desserts a
month or the 2 homemade ice cream offers. We will propose a bake
sale of the items listed for each quarter of the calendar year to
help our fundraising for Alzheimer’s. Next summer we will have an
ice cream social. Our goal for donations for 2020 was $7,500 and we
are presently as $10,460.
What a blessing our church family has been in 2020! Judy &
Dean Sampson
MISSIONS OPPORTUNITY
MICA FOOD PANTRY: The Missions Committee challenged our
congregation to donate 1200 pounds to the MICA Food Pantry this
year. We’re making progress in spite of the pandemic! Thank you to
those who have faithfully put things in the basket for delivery.
We’ve donated 500 pounds so far with 2+ months left. Given the
crazy year, we may need to adapt our goal a little, but let’s see
how close to that 1200 we can come! The needs are definitely still
there!
MISSIONARY BIRTHDAY! One of the missionaries our church
supports, Doug Williams (Argentina), has his birthday November 18.
You may remember when he visited us two years ago, he mentioned how
much it meant to be remembered by folks on his big day. Let’s try
to fill his email box with good wishes! His email address is:

AFFIRMATION OF WELCOME
As a community of the people of God, we are called to minister
to ALL people of the world, knowing that the world is often an
unloving place, a place of alienation and brokenness. Christ calls
us to reconciliation and wholeness, and we are challenged by the
Gospel to be agents of healing within our society.
We stand in affirmation with the Apostle Paul that “in Christ
there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free,
there is neither male nor female.” ALL are ONE IN CHRIST. We at
Ames First UMC acknowledge that this reconciliation encompasses ALL
within the community of faith who exhibit differences in race,
gender, and ethnicity, as well as age, culture, physical ability,
educational level, economic status, personality, marital status,
and sexual orientation.
In response to the often hostile social climate with respect to
diversity within our society and the resulting feelings of
alienation from the Church, we wish to make known our caring and
concern. It is for this purpose that we affirm the following:
ALL persons share the worth that comes from being unique
individuals created by God;
ALL persons are welcome within the membership of this
congregation upon making an affirmation of faith; and,
ALL persons are encouraged and expected to share in the
sacramental and general life of this congregation as members of
this church.
