NEWSLETTER Jan. - Feb. 2014 News from Wombat Room We would like to take this opportunity to welcome all the new children and their families to the Centre and most of all to our ‘Wombats’ (babies) room. In January, our Wombat room started a new project about Farm Animals and this project is according to children’s interest. We have observed few children enjoyed playing with the farm animals, so we decided to make it a group learning experience for our Wombat children. Children have been learning about farm animals sounds, their image and habits. They created animal foot print painting; the and made collages using animals pictures. Children also used grass and leaf pretending to feed the animals, they did water play with animals pretending to feed them water and washed the animals. Children played with farm animals on the mat. Throughout this topic we have been reading a variety of animal stories to extend on children’s interest and learning. We sang a variety of animal songs such as, Old McDonald, Baa baa Black sheep, 5 little ducks, which engaged all of our Wombat children.

Christmas Craft: Our Wombat children actively engaged in variety of Christmas crafts activities. They decorated paper plate to make Christmas wreathes, they did painting decorating Christmas pictures, they did free painting using red colour for educator to cut and make chains for decorating the room. The children also did collage pasting Christmas trees and red socks.

Physical activities: We have been enjoying the sunshine during the outdoor play by playing in the sand pit using spades, buckets, cars, trucks, and other sand equipment, hula- hoops and tyres. Our wombats also continued watering the garden and watching them grow. They explored their outdoor environment by walking, running, and crawling around. The children enjoyed dance to variety of music. Moving their bodies and developing their large muscles. (Links with

Planting Flowers: Children had great time planning flowers with their educators. The educators dug holes for the flowers and each child had a turn putting the flower and watering it. Children participated with keen interest in this experience by waiting for their turns and following instructions of their educator. They are learning how to plant flowers and look after them by watering and weeding the flowers. Children used language to demonstrate and express their knowledge to their educator and peers, e.g. Aavyan said, ‘’blue flower’’ and smiled, Shervin said, ‘’flower’’ and smiled. Information for Parents

For our new parents and new mothers, or parents of children who recently started their school, ‘Safe driving habits and parking safely in the school zone or near the school’ is a key focus of the road safety to reduce the incident and severity of crashes and to enhance the safety of children travelling to, from and around school. As we are all aware, school zones operate on all gazetted school days. Roads with direct school access points (including multi-lane and high speed roads) must have a 40km/h school zone. 40km/h school speed zones operate across New South Wales at all school sites on school days. The majority of school zones operate between 8:00am ~ 9:30am and 2:30pm ~ 4:00pm. Drivers are required to drive at no more than 40 km/h through school zones. It is expected that we can provide a better and safer environment for children on their way to and from school, by encouraging our children walking and cycling safely to school having a decrease in traffic conflicts surrounding the school during, before and after school with a clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in road safety in and around schools. Indeed, parking unsafely, stopping on or near a pedestrian crossing, double parking and making an illegal U-turn can put our children’s lives at risk. Increased fines and loss of demerit points will apply when certain offences are committed in an operating school zone. For further information on ‘safe driving’ or ‘road safety issues around school’, please visit: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au (13 22 13) http://transport.nt.gov.au/safety/road-safety/for-schools/guidelines

A big Happy Birthday to the children who have recently celebrated their birthday or will celebrate theirs in the coming months. On this special day, we wish you all the very best, all the joy you can ever have and may you be blessed abundantly today, tomorrow and the days to come! May you have a fantastic birthday and many more to come Happy Birthday!

Immunisation We are currently updating our centre record for 2013/2014 and are encouraging all parents to let us know the dates of your child’s immunisations. According to the National Immunisation Program Schedule, children need to receive immunisations at birth, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 12 months, 18 months and 4 years. If your child has received any immunisations since beginning at FACCC, we must be notified. Please be advised that children with incomplete immunisation records will be considered unimmunised. Immunisation is the safest and most effective way of giving protection against the disease. After immunisation, your child is far less likely to catch the disease if there outweighs the very small risk of immunisation. Free immunisation service is available in 3 clinics at Merrylands, Wentworthville, and Greystanes. To enrol your child in Holroyd City Council’s FREE Childhood Immunisation Service, please complete the ‘Free Immunisation Clinic ‘ form and post it to Council using Free-Post envelope. Free Immunisation Clinic form is available in the foyer of our centre. Further information and immunisation resources are available from the Immunise Australia Program website at www.immunise.health.gov.au or by contacting the info-line on 1800 671 811.
