A hundred years of baking

The Ullan Pakari bakery was established in 1911 by Mrs. Emmi Laine. Originally located in the northern part of Satakunta region it moved to Pori, the capital of the region in the early 1980’s. The company is now run by the fourth generation of the same family.

The bakery specialises in local, traditional breads which are moulded by hand and baked in old fashioned ovens. In recent years, the company has grown steadily and now has around 50 employees, two bakeries, three retail shops and its breads are available in over 150 shops around the country.

ECH training materials very interesting and useful

Several enterprise cultural heritage (ECH) assets have been preserved during the past one hundred years in the bakery. The most crucial is perhaps know-how and old recipes. There are also some photographs as well as memoirs collected from the older generations.

Ullan Pakari ’s values of authenticity, quality and uniqueness have been used in their marketing for some time – as well as retro themes from the Finnish countryside of the 50’s.

Using the ECH training materials

The company’s current use of some elements of ECH means that Heikki Lankoski finds the ECH training materials very interesting and useful.

The modules of heritage management, brand management and IPR are the most important for the company. ”I got many new ideas for our marketing while studying the materials”, he says.

The young owner-manager would like to find ways of improving the use of the bakery’s ECH to increase the commitment of their customers and employees by using the learning materials from the MNEMOS project.
