“REALITY CHECK”

At a crowded hospital emergency room, a YOUNG DOCTOR wearing
scrubs walks cheerfully through the halls, greeting colleagues
as he goes.
He walks into the locker room to change, but just as he opens
his locker, the HEAD NURSE comes to tell him that they need
him for one last patient before he leaves.
The double door entrance to the ER burst open with a PATIENT
covered in blood brought in by paramedics. We see a flurry of
nurses come to assist as they take the patient into a room
where the doctor is waiting. Upon looking at the patient, he
goes into a daze. The nurses get his attention, asking him
what they should do. The doctor gets into action, giving
orders and taking charge. We get closer and closer to his
face; it becomes clearer and clearer that he is afraid of
something.
We see him the following night, Wednesday, sitting in his
roomy, dimly lit apartment. He picks up his phone and calls a
FRIEND, who is also a doctor, and starts talking. We hear
them talking about the incident and he reveals that he knew
the girl. The girl worked at a coffee shop he went to
everyday before work; they had flirted every time he went
there.
We are shown their interaction while his voice plays in the
background. He then reveals that the day of the incident, he
had finally decided to ask her out. She had given him her
number, and they were to meet at a bar nearby on Friday night.
We are shown him writing this on a paper while talking to her.
We hear him ending his conversation with his friend. He hangs
up, gets some wine, and pours it out. He pauses before taking
a drink.
The next day, Thursday, he goes back to the coffee shop. He
gets coffee and sits down to read a newspaper. Suddenly, he
stops. Frozen, he puts down the coffee and gets up.
We see the girl, in her uniform walking towards the exit of
the coffee shop. He calls her name, but she doesn’t stop. He
follows her out of the coffee shop, having a slight trouble
keeping up. There is a parade going on and she walks into the
crowd and he loses her. He is clearly flustered.
Later that day, he walks into work. He puts his stuff down,
and then calls the head nurse into his office. He asks her to
recount what had happened two nights earlier when the girl had
come in. She tells him there was no girl and asks him if he
is talking about the gang member that had come in with a
gunshot wound. She is confused. He starts to tell her that
it was a girl but stops. He tells her that he must have been
confused.
The next day, Friday, he walks into work, when a nurse tells
him that his doctor friend wants to see him in his office.
As he walks in to the office, his friend tells him to take a
seat. His friend asks him how he’s feeling. The young doctor
responds that he’s fine. He gets right into the point of
their meeting. He says that the head nurse came to him and
told him that about their meeting yesterday. The young doctor
his speechless, and says that he swears that he saw the girl
die. He reveals his increasing paranoia. The older doctor
pulls out a file from a drawer in his desk. He tells the
young doctor that this is a report about what happened on
Wednesday night, where he had tried to save a 20-year old gang
member.
We now see a flashback to that night as the friend explains
what happened.
We see the young doctor, sweating and shaking, deny the report.
The older doctor tells him that he has scheduled an
appointment with a psychiatrist for the following morning. He
tells the young doctor to go home and get rest.
The young doctor walks to his car. He reaches into his pocket
and finds the girls number and the name of the bar where they
were to meet. He wonders out loud if he dreamt her up too.
He gets into his car and calls the number. The number is out
of service. He then starts to drive to the bar where they
were to meet.
He walks into the bar, and orders a drink, looking around to
see if she is there. He spots a girl which he thinks is her,
but he can only see the back of her head. He very slowly
walks towards her. The girl gets closer and closer. He taps
her on the shoulder. As she turns around, just before we see
her face, we cut to black.
Research
Some research that we did was we went on YouTube and look at serious movies that took place
or had scene that used a hospital setting. Brian and I wanted to make this scarier more than
anything. We also wanted to use dark gloomy sketches to get our point across. We looked at a
couple of clips and figured out how we wanted to use the sketch to get the right scenes. A big
part of the sketches were just not about the main characters in the scene but the things in the
back ground.

Location and character
These pictures show the cloths that surgeons wear in the emergency room. We wanted to shoe
what kind of clothing our doctors and nurse would have on in the film.
The pictures of the hospital buildings are also to show what kind of look we were going for.
