The Field Control application contains three tabs: Dynamic Value List, Field Security, and Data Flow Control. Field Control is added to the Configuration module.

Dynamic Value List

The Dynamic Value List tab allows you to add Maximo-style lookups to virtually any field in Maximo Enterprise Suite. The Dynamic Value List entry is highly customizable, utilizing the new architecture of Maximo Enterprise Suite and SQL statements.

Furthermore, you can link the Dynamic Value List entry to data in another field on the form or the currently logged in user.

Field Security

The Field Security tab allows you to control the behavior for virtually any attribute in Maximo Enterprise Suite. Security for an attribute can be set by organization, site, group and/or user. Multiple behaviors can be assigned to the same attribute. When this is the case, there is a precedence to the security that is applied to the record. The highest precedence is user security and the lowest is organization security.

For example, security exists on the WORKORDER.GLACCOUNT column at the organization level (OrgA), and security exists on the same column at the group level (Grp1) in the same organization. A user from OrgA/Grp1 will have the security defined at the group level applied to the field. A user from OrgA/Grp2 will have the security defined at the organization level applied to the field.

Data Flow Control

The Data Flow Control tab allows you to configure field and status change rules without custom programming. This provides greater control over the flow of data or the order of status changes in applications like Work Order Tracking and Purchase Orders.

Deploying Over Multiple Application Servers

Field Control Application

The Field Control application must be installed on each application server in the target environment. However the install script only needs to be executed once for each target environment.

Custom Java and Class Files

When you create Field Control records, custom java and class files may be created and stored in the following folder.

<MAXIMO dir>\applications\maximo\businessobjects\classes\psdi\ pssolutions\common

New files are only created on the application server to which the user is currently connected. You must copy the files with the .java file extension to each application server to keep them synchronized. You must rebuild the Maximo EAR files on each application server after the files are copied.

Chapter 2: Installing Field Control

13 Close the DOS window.

14 Edit the maximo.properties file located in the <MAXIMO dir>\applications\maximo\properties folder and add the mxe.pss.home property and status handler properties.

The mxe.pss.home property is where Field Control is installed, which should be where MAXIMO Enterprise Suite is installed.

Example

//-----------------------------------// Properties for Field Control //-----------------------------------

mxe.pss.home=c:/maximo

NOTE For Windows, use either "\\" or "/" in the path.

The status handler properties determine what is run to when a status is changed. Add all of them to the maximo.properties file as specified below.

// mxe.pss.wostatushandler=// mxe.pss.rfqstatushandler=// mxe.pss.prstatushandler=// mxe.pss.locationstatushandler=// mxe.pss.postatushandler=// mxe.pss.invoicestatushandler=// mxe.pss.jobplanstatushandler=// mxe.pss.ticketstatushandler=// mxe.pss.assetstatushandler=// mxe.pss.laborstatushandler=// mxe.pss.mrstatushandler=// mxe.pss.solutionstatushandler=// mxe.pss.pmstatushandler=// mxe.pss.tktemplatestatushandler=// mxe.pss.personstatushandler=// mxe.pss.slastatushandler=

If a status handler has been customised, uncomment the corresponding property and assign the customised handler to the property.

Example

mxe.pss.wostatushandler=psdi.app.siteA.MyStatusHandler// mxe.pss.rfqstatushandler=// mxe.pss.prstatushandler=...

Where siteA is the site where the handler file is located and MyStatusHandler is the name of the customised handler file.

15 Save and close the maximo.properties file.

16 Copy all files from the

<MAXIMO dir>\applications\maximo\businessobjects\classes\psdi\ pssolutions\examples\pssfieldsec\deployment folder

to the <MAXIMO dir>\deployment folder.

Installation Steps

NOTE Some files will already exist in the <MAXIMO dir>\deployment folder. Be careful not to overwrite changes made to the files. If any files in the <MAXIMO dir>\deployment folder have been modified, the changes must be applied to field control files.

17 Edit the buildmaximoear.cmd file in the <MAXIMO dir>\deployment folder. Set the JAVA_HOME parameter to the folder containing the JDK.

Example

set JAVA_HOME=.\..\..\bea\jdk142_04

c Open the lookups.xml file in the <MAXIMO dir>\applications\ maximo\businessobjects\classes\psdi\pssolutions\resources\ presentations\system\pssfieldsec folder.

d Copy the text between <!-- Copy from here --> and <!-- To Here -->.
