To evaluate the use of the rainbow trout instead of the yellowtail, which is currently used in testing the efficacy of inactivated lactococcus vaccines, we conducted experiments with different conditions including water temperatures, inoculation routes, and strains of Lαctococcus 9α何回ω.The pathogenicity of Lαctococcus 仰向ieaefor rainbow trout was enhanced at 20

C, which is also within the optimal incubation temperature range for rainbow trout, where-as Lαctococcus 9αγvieαe was avirulent for rainbow trout at 15

C. Thus at 200
Cthe protective effect of the vaccine against intraperitoneal challenge was similar to with that in experiments conducted in yellowtail, demonstrating a vaccine dose時 relatedrate of survival. Based on the present results, we believe that it is valid to test the efficacy inac-tivated lactococcus vaccine in rainbow trout.
