October/November 2015 Volume 20 Issue 5

I am so thrilled to be back at Fellowship and

to be a part of the transition time. Pastor

Doyle was a blessing to all; his impact will be felt

for a long time. This time of transition will be an

opportunity to build on what he has taught you.

In preparation for the coming of a new

Pastor, I would suggest some specific things you

can do:

1. Pray in your personal time of prayer and

even join us on Sunday afternoon at 5:15, and

pray for the Pastor Search Committee and the

new pastor and his family.

2. Be faithful in attendance and financially. It

is important that we continue to be a body

alive in anticipation.

3. Find a place to serve. Volunteer for the nurse-

ry. Maybe join the choir. Be aware of guests

and keep sharing Jesus where you work, and

with neighbors.

4. Be a warm and friendly body to guests and

fellow members. This is a good time to renew

Fellowship with a new sense of joy.

5. Pray for the staff and church leadership as

we move forward.

Purposefully, we will make a few changes

in worship service, but by-in-large we hope to keep

business as usual a reality here.

See you Sunday...two times!

Music’s Beat

OK Chorale (Senior Adult Choir)— Fall is in the air, so maybe no more really hot days. I am ready for cooler weather and ready to rehearse the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month. We do have a great time together. So why not come and join us for a time of worship in rehearsal at 10:30 am! Look forward to seeing you at our rehearsals. Please notice date

change on rehearsals in October: we will rehearse October 7 and October 14 and sing in the October 18 worship service. In November, we will rehearse on November 4 and November 18, and sing in the worship service on November 22. Thank you for your faithfulness to the music ministry. Worship Choir—We are already hard at work on our Christmas music. We have a lot to accomplish this year to get this one ready. BUT I know we can do it. I look forward to each rehearsal as we meet together and worship as we rehearse. Please invite someone to come and join us. I am excited about the future and what the Lord is doing in our midst. Let’s be praying about what God wants to do in each of us this next year. See you in rehearsal on Wednesday. Note that our rehearsal during Thanksgiving week will move to Tuesday, November 24, at 7:00pm. All Wednesday activities are cancelled the day before Thanksgiving. Looking forward to seeing you Sunday with a smile on your face and a song in your heart and your Bible in your hand. Roger

Senior Adults—We are having a game night at 50+ plus in October with the youth. This should be a great time of getting to know the youth in our church. There will be board games plus dominoes (now, we know we like that game). We can teach the youth that game real well. Come on out and join the fun on October 16 at 7:00pm. Oh, you might have to bring a little extra food that night. Pigeon Forge, Tennessee – October 19-23. We have a full bus going to Pigeon Forge this year. It is going to be a great time of Bible study, fellowship, fun, and eating (of course). Looking forward to a great time together once again in the mountains of Tennessee. 50+ Meetings: October 16 and November 20. We meet at 7:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. Bring a friend! Flowers on Sundays

If you would like to place flowers in the worship center on a Sunday in memory of or in honor of someone, con-

tact your florist of choice and then let Lynette Pichard and the church office know. Or Lynette can make a fresh flower arrangement for you at her cost of the materials.

Foster Parents Desired...There is a tremendous need for foster parents in our region. Right now, there are thousands of children in Florida who need loving and stable homes. The Florida Baptist Children’s Homes is seeking loving Christian couples to serve in their Foster Family Homes. Foster Home parents can live rent-free in a beautiful home designed to meet the needs of foster families. Foster Family Homes parents are not only equipped with a home, but also many of the everyday supplies needed to impact the lives of children in their care. Contact the Children’s Home at 878-1458 or [email protected] for more information.

We pray for the big things and forget to give

thanks for the ordinary, small (and yet really not small)

gifts. How can God entrust great things to one who will

not thankfully receive from Him the little things?

Thank you to all who prayed for our DNOW! It was obvious that God showed up and made Jesus very real to us that weekend. If you are un-familiar with a DNOW, it stands for Discipleship Now. We pack a lot of in-depth Bible studies into a weekend with a band, speaker, and small group leaders. This year’s theme was “Christ Is All.” Everything was focused on Jesus. We studied the exaltation passages of Jesus and every song had His name in the lyrics. It was an amazing time of worship. We had two students make professions of faith and another re-dedicated. Also, our after-school program is growing by leaps and bounds. Every Wednesday we send a van to Raa Middle School to pick up students. This past week we had more students than seats, and starting this week we will send a second van. Please continue to pray for this ministry as God continues to give growth. We pray that through this and other campus ministries we will see a revival in the youth of Tallahassee. Lastly, our college group is growing as well. We meet every Thursday night from 6:00-8:00pm, and have free food. We are reaching more students at Tallahassee Community College through the Baptist Colle-giate Ministry. Please pray that God continues to give us His favor on the college campuses. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I am convinced that the prayers of the church members are essential to the success of our student ministry. Thank you to those who pray for us already, and I would ask you to consider praying for the student ministry every day. Take us to your war room!

night—learn some games, maybe teach them a

few moves, too!

Youth to the Movies October 18

Youth are eating lunch after the morning service and then going

to see the movie W oodlawn – Dare To Believe. This film is based on an

inspiring real-life story about love and unity in a school torn by racism

and hate in the 1970s. In 1973, a spiritual awakening captured the heart

of nearly every player of the Woodlawn High School football team, in-

cluding its coach Tandy Gerelds. Their dedication to love and unity in a

school filled with racism and hate leads to the largest high school foot-

ball game ever played in the torn city of Birmingham, Alabama, and the

rise of its first African-American superstar, Tony Nathan.

JAM Is Back!

We are excited about some new additions to our

JAM program this fall. The Preschool/Kindergarten

JAMmers will be participating in Lil’ K, an interactive

multi-media-based curriculum designed to help build ear-

ly spiritual formation. Their first unit of study will be “I Can Be a Friend”

as they learn about some Bible friends.

The 1st through 5th graders will continue to use the

Lifeway curriculum with this fall’s emphasis on the miracles

Jesus performed and Jesus’ teaching through preaching. The

3rd-5th graders will also participate in creative arts activi-

ties that are new to their program this session.

Invite your friends to join you for JAM!

Men’s Ministry

Fellowship’s monthly men’s group Ironworkers is a good way to connect regu-larly with other men. They usually meet on the third

Monday night of each month for dinner and fellow-ship. Cost is $4 for church members; free for guests and visitors. They also have work days which are scheduled far enough ahead so you can get them on your calendar.

Plan to join them on Monday, October 19,

and November 16, at 7:00pm in the Fellowship Hall.

For more information, contact Jim Holley at 510-2216 or 350-9596, or call the church office.

Money Matters

It is time for the preparation of Fellowship’s 2016 Ministry Budg-et. The Stewardship Committee re-quests that your committee/ministry complete a budget request form for each account/ministry and return it to the church office or email by October 7, 2015. Call Neil Brown or email

[email protected] if you have questions or need additional information. God is blessing Fellowship as we strive to serve Him and reach the community. Each member and/or at-tendee can be involved by (1) giving faithfully and sacrifi-cially, (2) praying for the Stewardship Committee as they develop the budget with the Committee/Ministry leaders, (3) being a witness in our market place. Your Stewardship Committee is Bill Coleman, Gary Hudson, Michael Drane, Ian Livingston, Donna Etheridge, Terri Fleming, and Ron Butler-Treasurer. The principal debt balance as of the end of August is $40,765. All gifts to the Renovation/Building Fund go directly to the reduction of the principal. Please mark your envelopes/checks clearly RENO.

plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Ladies! New Bible Study Beginning October 15th

Study Name: Keep It Shut

Keep It Shut by Karen Ehman explores how to better control your tongue, knowing what to say and how to say it, and realizing when it is best to say noth-ing at all. From Bible times to modern times, women have struggled with their words. What to say and how to say it. What not to say. When it is best to remain silent. And what to do when you've said something you wish you could now take back. In this book, a woman whose mouth has gotten her into loads of trouble shares the hows (and how-not-tos) of dealing with the tongue. This study will meet at 7:00pm on Thursdays for six weeks beginning October 15, and finishing up November 19. Invite the “girls” in your life to join you for this study.

Daylight Savings Time ENDS

Turn your clocks BACK one hour before you go

to bed on Saturday night, October 31. Standard Time

returns early Sunday morning.

We’re Making Up

Thanksgiving Baskets Thanksgiving is a time we reach out to those in our congregation who are having a hard time, so that all may have a

blessed time with family and friends. A box will be placed in the vestibule and by the side door of the Wor-ship Center for food donations to make up a Thanksgiv-ing meal. Items needed are: stuffing, gravy, broth, green vegetables (like green beans), cranberry sauce, canned fruit, sweet potatoes, brown sugar, marshmallows, mashed potato mixes, packaged bread mixes, cake mix-es, cookies. Please bring your items in by November 21. If you are aware of a family who would benefit from a basket, notify the church office or call Esther Bruce at 562-6422. If you would prefer to give a mone-tary donation, please make your check payable to Fel-lowship Baptist Church and note that it is for Thanks-giving baskets. Thanks so much for your support.

Missions News

Operation Christmas Child National Collection Week: November 16-23 Operation Christmas Child is part of Samaritan’s Purse. Through OCC’s Christmas in a Shoebox, children in war-torn areas, children in great poverty, are touched by the love of Jesus through gift-filled shoeboxes. And that’s just the beginning! Included in the shoe boxes are materials that teach the truths about God’s plan of salvation for each of us. Families and communities are im-

pacted by these shoebox expressions of hope and love. Over 100 million shoeboxes have been delivered to children around the world! Go to the Operation Christmas Child website at www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child to learn more and for ideas on how to pack a box.

Last year, Fellowship packed 216 boxes. So far this year we have packed 15. Items to pack the shoe boxes may be dropped off in the box in the vestibule of the worship center and in the church office. If you want to pack your own box, great! We will dedicate all of the boxes on Sunday, November 22. Fellowship will be a relay drop-off site again this year. Contact Michael and Ann Drane if you would be interested in helping with this special ministry that touches people all over the world.

GAs News

The GAs are planning a clothing drive! With the weather changing, now is the time that most women start to go through

closets. Please be on the lookout for collection boxes for women’s and children’s clothes and shoes. At the end of October, we will donate them to an organization that focuses on helping women and children in need.

RAs News

In September the RAs went to Mil-ton, Florida, to participate in RA Field Day. They met missionaries from Africa, Haiti, Cape Verde Islands, and Jordan. They also

met domestic missionaries from the Disaster Relief Team. T he boys also had the opportunity to race their derby cars—something they have worked very hard on— and were really excited about that. They had a great time learning and joining other RA groups from other churches.

Fall brings with it the emphasis on State Missions. The state newsletter and prayer guide

showed multiple examples of how the Florida Baptist Convention uses the money from the Maguire

State Missions Offering to support 25 different types of ministries. These include migrant missions, port

ministries, campus ministries, and a mobile dental unit. Nineteen new churches in the past twenty-four

months were given interest-free loans, including City Church (Tallahassee), Mosaic Church (Crestview),

and three different churches in Lake City. The Maguire State Missions Offering assists twenty-five

health clinics throughout Florida with several in our region: Graceville, Bonifay, and Panama City. Pastor Ken shared

with us that he regularly saw the work of the Maguire Offering during his pastorates in South Florida. Jesus calls Florida

Baptists to share His grace from the Panhandle to the Keys. Please be in prayer for the work of our Convention and how

God will use your gift to the Maguire State Missions Offering.
