February/March 2015
The Shepherd’s Heart
Volume 20 Issue 1
It didn’t take very long for
2015 to arrive. It was almost
like yesterday that we were getting
to February of 2014. But, here we
are.
As I ponder over the call of
God on our lives to be faithful serv-
ants of God through all the days of
our lives, I realize that we are on
call for ministry 24/7. (For those
new to that designation, it means 24
hours a day, 7 days a week.) All
along, I see a good story that illus-
trates what I want to say. I confess, I
don’t always remember where I see
them, but they are a great way to get
a message across to an audience –
whether the audience is in person or
in print. Let me share what I mean
with the following story:
Paul Decker (Baptist pastor
in N.Y.) tells the story of Billy Jack-
son’s daughter’s wedding day. The
phone rang as Billy (a locksmith)
and his wife were about to get into
the rented limo and leave for the
church. The caller, an agent for a
national auto club, was requesting
his services as a locksmith because a
member had locked himself out of
his car. The job was only a few
blocks away from the church, so he
grabbed his tools and headed for the
limousine. They reached the strand-
ed driver and he emerged from the
limo wearing a tuxedo. He opened
the car door in seconds and then
handed the motorist an invoice to
sign. “See,” the motorist said to his
wife, “I told you our auto club only
uses high-class service people.”
And that is what we are to
be—high class service people.
Don’t you love that story – and
doesn’t it say what we are to be –
servants of God who represent Him
in the best way possible!
My friend Marty Stubblefield had a
little note that said it this way:
Uniform of the Day
“Rather, clothe yourselves with
the Lord Jesus Christ, and do
not think about how to gratify
the desires of the sinful na-
ture.”
(Romans 13:14 NIV)
Clark Kent puts on his cape and
Superman suit.
Bruce Wayne puts on his Batman
cowl and cape.
Our military heroes put on their
uniforms and body armor.
Policemen and Firemen put on
their uniforms.
Doctors and nurses have their
uniforms.
In sports we have Practice Uni-
forms and Game Uniforms
The average Joe Citizen
may wear a business suit and tie,
or casual shirt and khakis, or
whatever the uniform of the day
may be. While Ms. Jo Citizen
will likely wear similarly styled
apparel appropriate as her uni-
form of the day for her work en-
vironment. Everyday, we wake
and put on our uniforms and go.
Whether we are stay-at-home
parents or top executives, or fall
somewhere in between, we each
have our uniform of the day. We
put it on, and we go and work.
But in Romans and in
Ephesians (a couple of times),
we’re reminded to “Put on the
Lord”, and reminded to put on the
“Full Armor” of the Lord. Why
would we ever rise in the morning
and not put on our uniform... not
put on the Lord along with His full
armor so that we are ready for the
day, and ready for battle?
That’s who we are. That’s
what we are. We are servants of God,
putting on the full armor of God so
that whether we wear a tux or jeans
and muddy boots, our first call is al-
ways (24/7) to be on task for the glo-
ry of God – in all we say and do.
“Whatever you do in word
or deed, do all the name of the
Lord Jesus, giving thanks through
Him to God the Fa-
ther.” (Colossians 3:17)
Thanks be to God for your
service in the Kingdom of God.

Music’s Beat
OK Chorale (Senior Adult Choir)—At last we can be in our regular rehearsal schedule after the holidays. I look forward to seeing each of you in rehearsals. We do have a wonderful time together. Check the Important Dates to Remember (to the right) to see when we rehearse and sing. (I figure you already have that scheduled.) I look forward to seeing you at our next appointed time. Worship Choir—Christmas is over and now we begin working on our Easter music—plus we are adding two other times for the choir to present special music during a worship event. So please come and be in rehearsal each week. We need you to be in rehearsals to accomplish our task for this year. I look forward to seeing you and worshiping with you even in rehearsals. We have the responsibility to lead worship each Sunday morning. We are the first people that worshippers see when they enter the sanctuary. And it sure is nice when we have everyone in place and singing out. We do miss you when you are out. Easter is coming – April 5th – so we have a lot to do in a short period of time. Let’s be in our place each week so we can adequately prepare for worship. What a wonderful time we had with Ivan Parker in concert on Sunday evening January 25. It is truly a great opportunity to hear one of the greatest in gospel music sing for us and share God’s word through music. I look forward to seeing you Sunday in church with a smile on your face and a song in your heart, and a friend by your side. Roger
Don’t forget 50+ each month. I know there are some more people that could come and be with us the third Fri-day of each month and fellowship with us – so come on and join us. We will not bite and you just might like it! 50+ Meetings: February 20 and March 20. We meet at 7:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. Bring a friend! Important Dates To Remember: February 4: OK Chorale Rehearsal in sanctuary at 10:30am February 14: Valentine’s Day February 18: OK Chorale Rehearsal in sanctuary at 10:30am February 20: 50+ meeting in Fellowship Hall February 22: OK Chorale sing in morning worship ser-vice. A new year and the Students Ministry has hit the ground running! We are excited about all that God has done for us and through us in this past year, but we are
even more excited about where he is taking us. The Students Ministry is ex-panding our leadership program this year with the rise of our mentors. A mentor is an adult volunteer in the Students Ministry who will be assigned a student. That student and adult will then grow together for a semester. The mentors are to guide and model to the student how to pursue a relationship with Jesus and get active in the local church. The students will also be pushed to test their limits and develop their character fuller. Please join us in prayer as our mentors seek to raise up a generation for God.

Women’s Ministry
Men’s Ministry
Men, we hope you were encouraged and chal-lenged at the Johnny Hunt Men’s Conference in January. It was a great time to connect with other men who want to develop a deeper faith walk, and what that looks like in day-to-day real life. One connection you can make regularly is through Ironworkers, Fellow-ship’s monthly men’s group. They usually meet on the third Monday night of each month for dinner and fellowship. Cost is $3 for church members; free for guests and visitors. They also have work days which are scheduled far enough ahead so you can get them on your calendar. Plan to join them on Monday, February 16, and March 16, at 7:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. For more information, contact Jim Holley at 510-2216 or 350-9596, or call the church office.
Kick the Can/ Breakfast Bash
Saturday, March 7 Collect, save, and bring your aluminum cans (drink and cat food) and disposable alu-minum baking pans to the next Kick the Can Drive on Saturday, March 7, 9:00am-10:30am. Gather aluminum anywhere—your office, rela-tives. It’s good for the environment and it’s a help to us! The sooner we get the current debt paid off the sooner we can start on a new Fellowship Hall. Over the past 4-5 years, the aluminum collections have contributed over $5,000 toward our debt reduction and reduces the prin-cipal on the loan.
After dropping off your aluminum, join us for a wonderful continental breakfast! For a donation in any amount, you can enjoy grits, sausage, biscuits, various pastries, fruit, coffee, and juice—and it’s all-you-can-eat! What a bargain—breakfast and sweet fellowship!
Festival of Tables Friday, February 27
The Women’s Ministry Festival of Tables will be held on February 27, at 6:45 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Lynette Pichard will be our speaker on the topic Bless-ings in Hard Times. This will be a ladies-only event. The Festival of Tables is always a beautiful occa-sion with each table decorated around a theme of the hostess’ choosing with special desserts prepared by each hostess for her table. The meal will be prepared by our special chefs and as always will be very delicious. Tickets are $15 each and will be available through the hostesses and members of the Women's Min-istry team. Your ticket must be purchased by February 22— no money will be collected at the door. Join us for an evening to remember through food, fellowship, and inspiration.
Churchwide Food Pantry Drive Sunday, March 29,
Morning Worship Service On March 29th, a churchwide food drive for our Food Pantry at Fellowship will be held in the sanc-tuary during the morning worship service with a bless-ing of the food as it is placed on the altar, the recipients, and the staff as they dispense the food. Please think of those who must, from time to time, ask for assistance for their families. Be generous with your contribution of canned meats, peanut butter, cereals, oatmeal, pastas and sauces, dried beans, fla-vored rice, powered milk, pancake mix, pancake syrup, instant/seasoned potatoes, canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned chili, and canned stews and soups. Also needed are toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo, bath soap, body lotion, toothpaste and tooth-brushes, razors, laundry detergent, and cleaning prod-ucts. Thank you!
We know God only so far as we love God.

God blessed Fellowship Baptist Church with a 4 percent increase in Tithes & Offering gifts in 2014 over 2013! That is an answer to
prayer that we should celebrate! Again, we finished 2014 in the black. More details will be shared at the Busi-ness Meeting on February 18, 2015. Plan to be present. Renovation Funding Update: At the end of 2014, our debt was $57,625. Remember, all Building Fund/Renovation gifts go to reduce the principal on the loan. Please give above and beyond your regular Tithes & Offer-ings to help eliminate the debt.
Annie Armstrong was a tireless servant of God and a contagious advocate and supporter of mis-sions efforts throughout the world. Her passionate advocacy led Southern Baptists to name the annual offering for North American missions after her. Send North America is the Nor th Ameri-can Mission Board’s response to bring hope to an ever-increasing population by empowering the largest net-work of local churches (45,000 Southern Baptist and 311 Canadian National Baptist) to plant more congre-gations across North America. Twenty-five percent of all Christian churches planted in North America each year are planted by Southern Baptists. Of the 352 million people living in the United States and Canada, it is estimated that 265 million do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. One hundred percent of the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering goes toward resourcing and empower-ing missionaries to live out God’s call. The Annie Armstrong offering will be re-ceived throughout March. For more information, go to www.anniearmstrong.com.
Everyone is invited to the Donaldsons’ Farm
