Featuring the NEW YZF-R6

For the 2008 season Yamaha have taken the outstanding YZF-R6 to an even higher level by uprating the engine and chassis for even more remarkable performance on the street and track. Featuring a higher 13.1:1 compression ratio, YCC-I (Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake), and running with revised settings for the YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) – as well as featuring a modified fuel injection system and a new-shape high-efficiency airbox – the new ’08 model is a leading contender in the supersport class.

Besides these performance-boosting engine changes, Yamaha have also made a number of significant improvements to the chassis for 2008. For even sharper handling and turning, the latest R6 features a newly-designed Deltabox frame and swingarm offering a revised strength and rigidity balance. The 41mm diameter fork outer tubes and fork offset are modified for improved suspension feel, while a new magnesium subframe saves weight. And for improved aerodynamics and enhanced controllability the rider position is moved to a lower and more forward position.

With the addition of YEC engine and chassis racing kit parts, this high-specification machine can be transformed into a race-winning Supersport race machine.

Yamaha Motor Engineering is devoted to the development and manufacture of YEC Racing Parts: high-performance engine and chassis racing parts for the Yamaha YZF-R1 and YZF-R6. Yamaha Motor Engineering, wholly-owned by Yamaha, is the only officially-approved supplier of racing parts for the R-series machines. Because YEC Racing Parts are developed in-house, we are able to finalise new racing parts before a new model is released for sale, and this allows us to thoroughly test and evaluate every component well in advance. This means that as soon as any new R-series model arrives in the showrooms, the very latest generation of fully-tested YEC Racing Parts are soon to follow.

Testing and development of YEC Racing Parts is carried out in association with MG Competition, the highly-respected teamthat runs the racing squad of Team YZF Yamaha. As well as using input from our World Superbike and World Supersport teams to evaluate new parts, we also use top development riders as Shinichi Nakatomi to carry out intensive track testing.

In addition to this demanding on-track development schedule, MG Competition also carry out thorough workshop evaluation of all YEC racing parts jointly with engineers from Japan at their world-class testing facilities, and employ three dedicated development engineers who work exclusively on the YEC programme.

YEC operates three ordering rounds for its 2008 racing parts:Please mind the following ordering deadlines:

Race, tune and learn

Yamaha R1 and R6 riders who purchase YEC Racing Parts are invited to attend the annual Yamaha Race Training (YRT) event which takes place in the second half of March 2008 on the Ricardo Tormo circuit of Valencia (dates to be confirmed).

Organised by Yamaha Motor Europe, the YRT event is run over three days, and includes plenty of track time, as well as in-depth seminars run by Yamaha Racing engineers from Japan and Europe. In addition to the expert technical information made available at the YRT seminars, Yamaha’s engineers will also be on hand to advise riders and teams on engine and chassis set-up during the track testing sessions.

YRT is a free event which offers YEC customers with R1 and R6 race machinery the exclusive opportunity to get professional input from factory-trained engineers, allowing them to start the 2008 racing season on a high!
