Sometimes you have to forget all the reasons not to and
simply follow your dreams, and in 1989 I did just that.
I was just another wide-eyed girl with a dream but I
discovered my passion in life was ACTIVE LIVING and
creating activewear that inspired others. Call me optimistic, foolish
or both but one day I made a decision to wholeheartedly pursue my
passion. Now as we celebrate 25 years of Lorna Jane I can say with
confidence my passion for ACTIVE LIVING is as white hot as ever.
As an active at heart brand, Lorna Jane is dedicated to inspiring
women to get more out of life by giving more of themselves every
day. If you don’t know where to begin, here's what I've learnt along
the way: stay true to your AUTHENTIC being, spend time with people
you ADMIRE, go your own WAY, seize OPPORTUNITIES when they
reveal themselves, when others go left - go right, never never NEVER
give up, be an enthusiast, go at full speed and above all, become
obsessively passionate about YOUR dream. I believe every person
is born into the world to do something unique and distinctive and if
you don’t do it, it will never be done. With that said, after months
of sketching and fittings, I’m releasing a debut collection very close
to my heart. Equal parts fit and fashionable, Uniquely Lorna Jane is
designed for active women who know that style and athleticism go
hand in hand (the new range of chic lifestyle pieces comes to life
on page 16).
As Uniquely Lorna Jane becomes a reality, I’ve come to realise that
our dreams say more about us than we’d ever reveal. Want to decode

to start creating a life you love. Like I said, if there’s rules: shake ‘em.

As an athletic mood infiltrates the street and the
international runway circuit, modern women have
infused their everyday wardrobe with a sense of energy

performance pieces, Lorna rose to acclaim in the 90’s with her fashion forward
activewear collections. Twenty-five years later, her active outlook remains
unwavering.
With a sharp wit and a smile hovering at the corner of her lips, the design icon
is instantly likeable. As Lorna pulls open the doors of her light-filled studio, her
hair falls in soft waves. Later, she pins her locks in a loose chignon for a board
meeting, but her demeanour remains cool and composed.

benefits). For a designer on the eve of launching her first Uniquely Lorna Jane
collection this month, Lorna is unusually relaxed. As she walks through her studio,
pulling pieces from garment racks and explaining their technical details, it's
not hard to see why this self-made businesswoman is one of greatest success
stories of Australian fashion.
As an innovator and a challenger of the status quo, Lorna’s active aesthetic has
empowered generations of women in her wake. The tenets of Lorna’s way of life –
freedom, energy, vibrancy – are unveiled in her new lifestyle collection.
Uniquely Lorna Jane represents an equally unique way of life, best defined by
Lorna's personal philosophy. As an Active Living advocate, Lorna believes that
our day-to-day choices ultimately reflect how we will spend our lives. “Investing

After all, bespoke is in her blood. True to her active roots, Lorna cut and sewed
her first made-to-measure garments for the women in her fitness classes.
She smiles at the memory of her original Lorna Jane pieces.

embrace activewear to simplify their fast-paced lives. The rest is history.
Outside her studio, the sun is setting. Unfazed by the end of another long day,
Lorna is at her desk, consumed by a new sketch. The question must be asked.

“I am passionate about everything I do, which is why I’ve never felt burnt out in

As someone with a reputation for biting off more than she can chew, I’ve often fallen into the trap of feeling compelled to be busy all the time.
This frantic cycle left me feeling unsatisfied, tired and about as happy as an ex-Disney star’s publicist. For many of us, we mistake busyness for
success and happiness. In our quest for a better way of life, we push ourselves to prep every meal ahead of time and conquer our entire email
inbox before bed. There’s a difference between being constantly busy and getting the most out of your life, with the latter being more enjoyable
and satisfying. So, how can you create a life you love without feeling under the pump, stressed out or succumbing to the pressure of being the
next Wonder Woman? You can easily banish that forever-busy feeling in just five steps (it’s that simple).
I love lazy mornings and drinking fresh juice at the market. I hate washing dishes. So, how do I spend my Saturday mornings after a hectic
working week? At the markets and out of the kitchen for sure! I’m not advocating living in your own filth, but the world won’t crumble if you
skip the vacuuming every once in a while. Will your greatest accomplishment be a fun-filled lifestyle or a bathroom floor so clean that you can
lick it? Who wants to lick their bathroom floor anyway?
Here’s the thing – learning to love your precious self isn’t selfish. If you need convincing, think about your daughter, niece or younger sister.
Do you want her to love herself? Give yourself the same respect by modelling this positive behaviour first-hand. Showing love on a daily basis
doesn’t have to take up too much time, but the rewards will last a lifetime. Buying your mum a bouquet of her favourite blooms? Buy yourself
a fresh bunch too. Every day, write down one thing you like about yourself in your journal. Don’t have time for self-love? Well, let’s refer back
to our daily allowance of 1440 minutes… 20 minutes doesn’t sound like much of a commitment anymore, does it?
Want to get more out of your day? Go for a run, take a brisk walk or do a lunchtime workout in the office using your own body weight. Ever felt
tired and less motivated after skipping exercise? It’s no coincidence! Slip on your favourite LJ outfit and get moving to boost your energy.
And control what you can. We tend to waste time stressing about things we can’t control and wondering why we weren’t born with chiseled
cheekbones. Life will become a whole lot sunnier when you accept that you can’t control everything, but you can control the way you think,
feel and behave.
It’s important to stay positive when your well organised schedule spirals into disarray. Don’t let a spanner in the works ruin your day. If an
urgent deadline forces you to skip your evening boxing class, why not swap the punching bag for a quick HIIT workout at home? Friends
cancelled your weekly sushi date? Use the free time to grab a few nori rolls on the way home and call your sister. Or if you’re spending
precious time waiting for your flat tyre to be fixed, start planning next week’s meals and grocery list.
Remember, you don’t have to be ‘run off your feet’ busy to get the most out of every day.
My goal is simply to be present, live in the moment and focus my energy on today.
Tomorrow is Future Kate’s problem.
Each of us has 24 hours, 1440 minutes or 86,400 seconds to make the most of every day.

to eat and live clean.
1. Mix all ingredients for the Bircher together in a bowl (except the pistachios) & pop it in the fridge overnight.
2. In the morning, wash & halve the berries.
3. Using a fork, smash the berries together in a large bowl with the spices, orange zest & sea salt.
4. Spoon the muddled berries into the muesli & sprinkle the pistachios on top.

OVEN BAKED SALMON, SPICED CAULIFLOWER & FENNEL
This is just one of those meals we never get tired of. It is easy, relatively
quick & includes a generous serving of cauliflower, a vegetable not used
often enough in Australian homes. A lot of people say they find it boring &
bland, but once you’ve tried this dish, you’ll see the humble cauliflower in a
new light – we guarantee it. Tuck in, guys!
♦ 1/2 caulif lower (about 400g),
cut into small florets
♦ 2 large fennel bulbs, trimmed,
cored & thinly sliced
♦ 2 eschalots, thinly sliced
♦ 2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
♦ 2 tablespoons avocado oil
♦ 1 tablespoon ground cumin
♦ 1 tablespoon sweet paprika
♦ Sea salt & ground black pepper
♦ 4 x 180g salmon fil lets, skin on
♦ 1 tablespoon coconut oil
♦ 2 tablespoons pine nuts
♦ Juice & zest of 1 lemon
♦ 1/4 cup flat-leaf parsley
1. Preheat the oven to 220°C & line an oven tray with baking paper.
2. In a large bowl, combine the caulif lower, fennel, eschalots & garlic, then coat them with the avocado oil, cumin & paprika. Season with salt & pepper, spread out on the oven tray, & bake in the oven for about 30 minutes, until golden. Keep an eye on the caulif lower so as not to burn the tips of the florets.
3. Meanwhile, place a large frying pan over a medium to high heat, & fry the salmon, skin side down, in the coconut oil for about 2-3 minutes, until the skin is crispy & the fish starts to change colour. Flip & seal on the top, then remove from the heat.
4. Once the caulif lower is done, remove it from the oven & give it a bit of a toss.
5. Reduce the oven temperature to 180°C. Now add the pieces of salmon to the tray of veggies, crispy skin side facing up, & sprinkle with the pine nuts. Place the tray back in the oven for a further 5-7 minutes, until the fish is just cooked.
6. Serve with a squeeze of lemon juice & a generous sprinkling of zest & parsley.

1. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Wrap the beetroots individually in foil & pop in the oven for 1 – 1½ hours. Remove from the oven when you can push a knife into the centre of the beetroots without resistance.
2. Once the beetroots have cooled, remove the foil, then use a vegetable peeler to scrape their skin off. Cut into wedges & set them aside.
3. Pop the leeks into a pot of salted water, bring to the boil, & simmer for 10-12 minutes.
4. When the leeks are slightly soft, take them off the heat & drain the pot. Let them cool, then cut each piece into 3 smaller segments & set them aside.
5. Melt a little coconut oil in a frying pan over a medium heat & pop in the Brussels sprouts. Add a pinch of sea salt & keep turning the sprouts for about 3-4 minutes, until they begin to soften, then take them off the heat & set aside to cool.
6. Combine the dressing ingredients in a small bowl.
7. Once the leeks & brussels sprouts are at room temperature, combine them with the coriander, baby kale & beetroot.
8. Serve on a large platter & drizzle the dressing over the salad.
BABY KALE, ROASTED BEETROOT, BRUSSELS & WALNUT SALAD
This recipe bursts with healthy goodness. Packed full of superfoods, it’s guaranteed
to please - plus it’s easy to make!
♦ 4 medium beetroots (about 500g in total)
♦ 4 leeks, cut into 10cm pieces
♦ Coconut oil, for frying
♦ Sea salt
♦ 300g Brussels sprouts, quartered
♦ 1/2 cup coriander, roughly chopped
♦ 3 cups baby kale
SALAD DRESSING
♦ 3 tablespoons walnut oil
(or olive oil)
♦ 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
♦ 1 teaspoon seeded mustard
♦ 1 teaspoon maple syrup
♦ 1/2 cup walnuts, roughly chopped
♦ 1/2 teaspoon chill i f lakes
1. Place the macadamias, 10 of the dates & the cinnamon in a food processor & mix until a wet crumb is formed.
2. Line the base & side of a 20cm round cake tin with some baking paper, then pour the mixture into the tin & press down firmly to flatten it. Put it in the fridge to chill until it’s firm.
3. To get the fake cheese mixture sorted, start by blending the soaked cashews, lemon juice, rice malt syrup, coconut oil, vanilla bean seeds & salt in the food processor. Blend it up so it’s really smooth – it should take around 5 minutes or so. You want the mixture to be light & fluffy. It should be a great creamy colour & free of lumps.
4. Pour the cheese mixture into the cake tin on top of the base. To even out the surface, give the tin a few light taps on the bench.
5. Finally, get started on your raspberry layer. Put the berries & the 2 remaining dates in the food processor & blend until smooth. You may need to add a little water. Pour this mixture onto your cheese layer & smooth it out with the bottom of a spoon. Sprinkle with the cacao nibs.
6. Place the cake tin in the freezer for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
7. This cheesecake is best served just slightly thawed, so give it some time on the kitchen bench to soften before cutting.

so delicious & good for you as well. There is absolutely no dairy
in this cheesecake, & no processed sugar. The sweetness is all
supplied by fresh fruit. If you don’t believe us when we say how

♦ 2 cups macadamia nuts, soaked overnight
♦ 12 pitted dates
♦ 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
♦ 3 cups raw cashews, soaked for 2 hours
♦ Juice of 1 lemon
♦ 1/2 cup rice malt syrup
♦ 1/2 cup coconut oil, melted
♦ 1 vanilla bean, seeds scraped
♦ 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
♦ 1 x 300g packet frozen raspberries, slightly thawed
♦ 1/4 cup raw cacao nibs, to garnish
