Pour cement into a mold and place pieces into the wet cement. At the 2nd class we’ll release stones from the molds and glue any loose tiles into place and seal. While a sketchbook is great for practice and recording ideas it also can give insight in to a student’s methods and thought processes.You’ll explore that process through creating theme/concepts, design (composition, texture, color, medium) and technique. 111 Wearable Art: Ice Dying & Indigo Dyes Scarves Taught by Sarah Dressler Ages 16 to adult October 21-28, 6:30-8:00pm, 2 Wednesdays $60 Member, $66 Non-Member Learn two different methods of dying fabric. Ice dying results in stunning contrasts as the ice melts and carries the dye into the silk. In- digo dying is like magic as you watch the color develop before your eyes. Dyes and two silk scarves are provided. Bring your own cotton/ linen items to dye, if desired. 112 Abstract Doodle Bag Taught by Sarah Dressler Ages 16 to adult October 14, 6:30-8:30pm, 1 Wednesday $35 Member, $38 Non-Member Using permanent markers and isopropyl alco- hol we will create one of a kind bags. We will start with bold swaths of color and blend the colors creating a watercolor or tide effect. Then we will move on to adding layers of patterns and visual texture with pens creating small but dynamic works of art. 113 Acrylic Painting for Kids Taught by Val Walton Ages 10-12,Oct. 17-Nov. 14, 10:00-11:30am, 5 Saturdays, $75 Members, $82 non-members We’ll learn a variety of painting techniques: Making subjects look far away, still life shadows, making water look like it’s moving, expressive tones from black, gray to white, impact of metallic paints and painting trees over the four seasons. We’ll review the basics. During the third week, we’ll start a project on canvas and work to finish it by the last class. 114 Beyond Beginner Watercolor Taught by Karen Berstler Ages 18 and up Oct. 19 to Nov. 23, 6:30-8:30pm, 6 Mondays $140 Member, $154 Non-Member This class is for students who have taken beginning watercolor through the NAA or already have some experience with watercolor painting. We will explore the use of light and shadow and color to create form and focus on painting from life. Each session will have exercises in the different design concepts. The students will complete a still life painting as the final project of the class.
