FACCI is a Non-Government, Not For Profit Body

FACCI is the Peak Body for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Businesses and their Representative Bodies. FACCI was established by the National Network of Indigenous Chambers of Commerce and Business Associations in April 2015 to represent the interests of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Businesses and to act as the Key Conduit between the First Australians Business Sector, Government and Corporate Australia.

A member driven initiative with a national grass roots footprint, FACCI provides an opportunity to lead real change through accurate advice and guidance to Government and the Private Sector in their efforts to locate and engage with First Australian Business Owners for the purpose of meaningful procurement and economic growth for First Australian Communities. As the Peak Body our role is to represent Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Business in partnership with our members. It is our responsibility to lead and advise, to advocate and challenge, to regulate and, to maintain our relevance to a growing sector.

Under FACCI, Indigenous Chambers of Commerce & Business Associations provide a unique model to be embraced by Governments to establish and grow resilient and viable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses across Australia. Through proper role modelling by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Business Leaders we encourage enterprising Aboriginal communities, focused on commerce as a means to addressing our own Social and economic disadvantage.

As the Peak Body, FACCI offers government a unique opportunity to consult with theFirst Australian Business Sector with absolute Confidence that all Suppliers no mattertheir scale or size are heard. True and inclusive consultation also enables governmentto properly plan the delivery of future business and wider economic developmentprograms. It also ensures that scarce resources are allocated to achieve efficiency andeffectiveness for the benefit of All First Australians in business or seeking to start abusiness. Improved program relevance and delivery by Indigenous professionals willhave a positive and significant impact on “Closing the Gap” in all social and economicareas for First Australians and create better economic efficiency across Government.“FACCI’s policy advocacy & business representation is not for the benefit of only oneclient or narrow sectional interest”We advocate for policies that support international best practice and a world classenvironment for doing business with First Australians. Our own policies aredeveloped by and on behalf of all First Australian businesses in pursuit of an active, vibrant private sector, economic growth, job creation and a strong economy forAboriginal & Torres Strait Islander People that contributes to a healthier AustralianEconomy.

PartnershipsThe FACCI Network of Indigenous Chambers of Commerce in each State & Territoryprovides a grass roots footprint that guarantees we are equipped to represent theinterests of First Australian Suppliers across the Nation. We advocate on issues of national importance and which impact on the FirstAustralians Business Sector. Our aim is to use current data and quality research toshare with Government for the development of evidence based policy reform andprograms which maintain relevance as the Sector develops and continually improvesoutcomes for the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Businesses.

On behalf of First Australian Suppliers we demand proper and robust regulation thatensures the integrity of the First Australians Business Sector is maintained. FACCIoffers Government a unique opportunity to minimise the risk of error in regards tomeeting the needs of First Australians in Business through business support andprogram delivery and to provide confidence to Departments in their efforts toachieve genuine procurement outcomes with First Australian Companies.

We are committed to empowering First Australian business leaders with thenecessary skills and a platform to lead change for our people through the creation ofCommerce and through the rewards that come from having the opportunity toparticipate in the economy. Through an education and awareness building agenda,FACCI will ensure First Australian business leaders are better positioned to contributeto the development of the sector and to the education of Government and PrivateSector Enablers.

FACCI believes Capacity Building to be the Number One Priority for a developing FirstAustralians Business Sector and Economically sustained communities. We advocate that Capacity Building Programs & Activities should be Regulated byFACCI, but Delivered by State & Regional First Australian Chambers of Commerce.FACCI advocates that Governments would be well positioned for quality programoutcomes if they invest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander design and delivery ofAboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs. By doing this Governments achieve anadditional return on program investment by growing the capacity of Aboriginal andTorres Strait Islander Organisations such as Indigenous Chambers of Commerce andothers. This is how we achieve faster economic growth for first Australians.

FACCI partners with committed governments and genuine private sector companiesto guide the development of a highly resilient and competitive First AustraliansBusiness Sector in Australia. In representing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait IslanderBusiness Sector FACCI seeks out respectful relationships that are aligned with or havea real desire to contribute to and enable Capacity.

Why does FACCI Require a New Funding Model?

Within the last 24 months the Australian Indigenous Business Sector has experienced an expedited response from both government and corporate sectors by the introduction of key procurement policies, specifically targeting the increase of Indigenous employment and supply chain inclusion.

Although new policies and targets are welcomed, FACCI acknowledges that there are large capability and capacity gaps for the sector. This has resulted in the need for FACCI to seek an entrepreneurial approach to finding new funding channels that allow an ability to scale up the delivery of it’s six strategic pillars and assist in preparing the sector for the increased demand.

FACCI has sought a new strategic partnership focusing on long term and sustainable revenue growth to deliver in these key activities.
