Baptism ~ The next parental prep session will be held at 6:30 pm, Wednesday, March 8th, in the Church Commons. After attending this session, Baptisms may be scheduled during a daily or weekend Mass (outside of Advent & Lent), as well as at 11 am or 7 pm on Sat-urday, or 1pm on Sunday. Please register for the ses-sion by contacting the parish office. Godparents and grandparents are also welcome.

Marriage ~ Engaged couples should contact Deacon Jim Walter at [email protected] to set an appointment to begin the process of preparation at least six months prior to the date of marriage.

Anointing of the Sick and Pastoral Visitation ~ To arrange for a priest, deacon or lay minister to visit a loved one who is sick, homebound, or hospitalized, please contact the parish office. Because of HIPAA policies, a hospital cannot notify the church, so a family member must take the initiative. Anointing is also offered following Mass. An immediate response is not always possible, so don’t wait until a crisis occurs!

Cancer Support Group ~ Meets first Friday of each month at 9:30 am. Sessions are open to all. Contact Sister Carol.

RCIA Inquiry ~ Next session will meet on Tuesday, March 14th, at 7:00pm in the Church Commons. Any-one who has questions about the Catholic Church is welcome to attend. Contact Sr. Carol.

Children's Liturgy of the Word ~ celebrated during the 9:30 & 11:30 Mass each Sunday for youngsters in Kindergarten through Grade 4.

Welcome, Fr. Jacob Joseph Please join us in welcoming, Fr. Jacob Joseph, CMI. Born in South India (Kerala) as the 6th child of the seven children, he joined the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate order and was or-dained a priest on May 11, 1983. After his ordination he worked as a college Botany teacher until May 2000. During seventeen years as a priest in India, Fr. Jacob assumed many responsibilities such as parish work, pastoral ministries, retreat preaching, seminary rector and even in construc-tion of buildings. In 2000, when the education sys-tem was rearranged, he lost his teaching position. This allowed Fr. Jacob to come to the USA for pas-toral ministry. Upon arrival to the USA, he spent seven years in the New York archdiocese. In June, 2007 he came to the Diocese of Charleston. He comes to us from Our Lady of Peace in North Au-gusta, SC and will assume the position of Parochial Vicar for St. John the Beloved on February 27th.

Presenter: Carla Vogel, Professional storyteller, writer and educator. She is a certified Legacy Letter Facilitator. A Legacy Letter is a preservable docu-ment, which communicates values, wisdom, history, and stories from one generation to another. Trans-forming instructions into blessings is a powerful act, which will be explored in this lecture. Cost at the door is $10 per person.

Join us for a bible study of “The Seven Last Words of Christ” by Rich Cleveland. Over 7 sessions we will hear Him, in the fog of pain and death reveal to us the unfathomable depths of His love and faithfulness on Thursdays mornings, facilitated by Fr. Citadel Cadet Choir Sunday, February 26 at 9:30 & 11:30 Mass

Next Sunday, the Catholic Cadet Choir from the Citadel will be singing during Mass. The group, which rehearses weekly and sings at Sunday evening Masses on campus, is raising money for its Spring tour to Charlotte, where they will sing at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Scripture Reflection

T he Book of Leviticus from which our First

Reading comes is the third book in the Old Testament. Its name in part comes from the Levites, who were the tribe to which Aaron belonged. Historically Aaron is considered to be the one from whom priests are descended. However, the Bible offers instructions to all of us, not just to priests. In today’s reading from Leviticus, God says to Moses that he should teach the people this: “Be holy, for I, the LORD, your God, am holy.”

There is no way, of course, that we can be as holy as God is. God is divine, not human, and thus His Holi-ness is above and way beyond our capabilities. What God is saying to us though is that we do need to strive for holiness. We often speak of our call to holiness and how we can try to achieve that. One way is to embrace stewardship and all it entails as a way of life.

Will that make us holy like the Lord? No, but it does mean that we need to comprehend that it is God and God’s wisdom we must embrace and follow. Holiness for us means we need to attempt to separate ourselves from those things and thoughts and ideas which can be viewed as not holy in the Eyes of God. Yes, it is impossi-ble for us, but yet that is what we must try to do.
