SINK OR FLOAT

Page 8: Experiments with water priya jha

FLOAT OR SINK

• Most of the objects float if it is Lighter in weight or Density is less than water.

• Most of the objects float if it is Heavier in weight or Density is more than water.

• Density is Mass per unit volume.

• Density of water is 1000 kg/meter cube.

• Only those objects float which can displace the water as their weight.

Assessments

• Encircle the things that dissolve in water.

• Sugar, Lemon juice, Oil, Fruit juice, Pepsi, Salt, Chalk powder, Mud, Ghee, Mishri (sugar lumps), Milk.

• Group the following into which are soluble in water and which are not soluble in water.

• Blood, Ink, Curd, Ghee, Wax, Wheat flour, Sugar, Salt, Pencil waste, Milk

Page 20: Experiments with water priya jha

• What things do you put in water to make tea? Which of those things dissolves in water?

• You have been given some mishri pieces (lumps of sugar). Suggest some ways to dissolve them quickly.

RACING DROPS

• Ayesha put two drops of oil on the lid of her tiffin box. Next to that she put two drops of water and two drops of sugar solution. She tilted the lid. She saw some drops slid down quickly, while some were left behind.

• i) Which drops slid down faster?

EVAPORATION

Water turn into water vapour at higher temperature even at room temperature. In this process water return back in to water cycle in atmosphere,

You have washed your handkerchief and you want to dry it quickly. What all can you do?
