Principal’s Report
Grandparents Day
What a wonderful morning our School Community had last Friday. The Junior Choir performed beautifully for all the grandparents, parents and extended family members in the hall. Grandparents commented to me how much they enjoyed being part of their grandchild’s morning in the classrooms. As I looked around the hall there were many happy faces as grandparents and grandchildren interacted positively as they enjoyed morning tea together. Thank you to all the parents, Grandmas, Grandpas and extended family who came along to celebrate Grandparents Day!
Music Count Us In
All students K-6 will be participating in the “Music Count Us In’ on Thursday 7th November. This program is designed to
recognise the importance music plays in our lives and learning by getting as many schools across Australia to sing the same song at the same time. Lismore Public school is well known for our excellent music program and this activity is a great way to promote this to the wider community. After listening to our students perform this year’s song “We Are” I am sure it is going to be a “goose bump moment” for all the staff and students involved.
Hats
As the weather is warming up I would like to take this opportunity to remind all families that students are required to wear a broad brimmed or bucket hat or play in the shade. We have had a number of students wearing baseball caps to school. These caps do not provide the sun protection recommended by the NSW Cancer Council and students wearing them will also be required to play in the shade. Staff would appreciate your support in this matter.
Swimming Scheme
This year we are once again offering the Department of Education School Swimming and Water Safety Program for students in Year 2 to 6. This intensive swimming program will continue daily in Week 4 of this term beginning Monday 4
th
November to Friday 8th November. I would like to encourage all children to attend who are not confident swimming.
Permission notes need to be handed into the office by Wednesday 30th October.
Kindergarten Orientation
On Friday 8th November we will welcome our new Kindergarten students for 2020 and their families into our school for their
first Kindergarten Orientation session. Our Orientation program will run for 4 weeks and is a great opportunity for prospective students to spend some time experiencing “Big School” before they commence as full time students. If you know of any families who are considering Lismore Public School as an educational option for their students in 2020 please ask them to contact the school to arrange an interview and a tour.

Getting ready in the morning
At Lismore Public School our expectations are “Rights, Respect, Responsibility”. In an effort to assist our students to be responsible in the morning, in class we have discussed what it looks like to get ready at home, independently, so they are on time, organised and ready to start their day at school.
Please see the attached getting ready for school poster,
which you can hang up at home as a reminder for your
child.

School Swimming and Water Safety Program
The Department of Education School Swimming and Water Safety Program is an intensive learn to swim program, which develops water confidence and provides students with basic skills in water safety and survival. The program is conducted over ten sessions. Each lesson is 45 minutes.
Students who have not reached a satisfactory standard of water safety and survival skills and are unable to swim 25m confidently unaided in deep water, are eligible to participate in the School Swimming and Water Safety Program. The Program focuses on weak swimmers in Year 2 to 6 as well as students with special needs such as new arrivals in Australia and students with disabilities.
Instruction will take place at Trinity Aquatic Centre 4th November - 8
th November 2019
Infant Excursion to Evans Head
On Tuesday, 19th November, Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 are invited to attend an excursion to
Evans Head. Students will be learning about living and non-living things, tides and how to take care
of the environment. Please read the note sent home for more details.
It will be a fun day for everyone.

RESPONSIBILITY - Be Accountable
Lismore Public School 10 Pound Street, Lismore NSW 2480
It has been brought to our attention that students at our school have
had head lice. It is recommended that you do a regular check of all
members of your family. Head lice are passed from person to person,
by direct contact or on shared objects such as towels, combs and hats.
It has absolutely nothing to do with cleanliness. Anyone, adult or child,
can get head lice.
What to look for:
Small light or dark brown insects without wings.
Tiny white eggs (nits) on the hair shafts.
An intense itching on the head or neck.
Medical authorities recommend to:
Check ALL members of the household at the same time and treat
those who have head lice.
Please advise the school if you find head lice.
Use an effective head lice treatment.
After the treatment, comb the hair with a fine-tooth comb to remove
as many eggs as possible.
Soak combs, brushes etc. in hot water for at least 10 minutes.
Check all household members daily, for 3 weeks, during an
outbreak. Treat anyone found to have head lice.
Repeat treatment 7 to 10 days after initial treatment.
Please remember that just treating the hair will not eradicate the
problem. Check the hair of all household members daily during the
outbreak and once a week at other times. Remind children to avoid
direct head-to-head contact.
Thank you for your cooperation.
World Teachers Day Celebrations
Last Friday 25th October was World Teachers Day and to
recognise the wonderful job our teachers do on a daily ba-
sis, the SAS staff put on a morning tea to say a big thank
you, we appreciate you!
The P&C would like to thank the teacher’s and staff at
LPS for all that they do for our students. They work late,
go to work in school holidays and take time away from
their own families to supervise camps and excursions....
and so much more. THANK YOU!”
P&C News
“This year the LPS Christmas Carols will be held on Thursday 12th December.
The P&C raffle will be drawn at the Carols. This beautiful quilt, donated by Margaret Lane, is one of our major raffle prizes. Other prizes will include a huge Christmas hamper
filled will food and Christmas items. There will also be smaller hampers as additional prizes.
The P&C are asking families to donate a non perishable food or toy item to assist us to make up the Christmas
hampers. Suggestions for donations could include canned food, juice, fizzy drinks, Christmas crackers, chips,
popcorn, toys or craft items.
Please place donations into the P&C tubs in the school office.
Thank you for your support.”
Early Birds Reading Program
The Lismore Public School’s ‘Early Birds’ morning tutorial program for our K-2 students is going incredibly well. Here are some photos of our older mentors volunteering their mornings to listen to the younger LPS students read. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in. We are especially looking for more parent volunteers. If you are interested, please discuss this with your child’s teacher.
