Evaluation Question 1- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions conventions of real media products

Mise En Scene- Actors

Like in this existing media product we have decided that in order to much the lyrics about love we were going to have two main characters, boyfriend and girlfriend. In the music video ‘ you belong with me’ we can see that

there is more than one character to help show to break ups however we decided to keep it to two main characters that way it wouldn’t get confusing for our audience. By doing this we had developed the usual

conventions you would find within a country pop song aimed at a young female audience.

Mise En Scene- Location

In the existing media product we see four different locations used. However in our music video we decided to develop this further by using the studio for three different types of shots and six other locations. By developing it in this way it meant that we could show the ups and downs of the relationship because of the mix of different locations it reflected

the uncertainty of their relationship. We also see the couple looking happy and having fights in different locations which shows this is a reoccurring thing in their relationship, to be up and down. This reflects the lyrics of the song and matches

the genre in the way that narrative of the main characters relationship is very important to be seen throughout.

Mise En Scene- Makeup

In my music video we used natural to no makeup besides lipstick to try and show that she was young and innocent. This kept to the conventions of the genre because girls are not seen as sex object as you might fin in a R&B music video for example. The reason as to why we made sure that we kept the red lipstick on for most of the shots was because it would match our ancillary task and the title of the album. We wanted it to be a symbol of her being young and in love, we wanted her to look like a character that a young audience could relate to but also look up to.

Mise En Scene- Colour

Some of the warmer colours when the scenes are filmed at home reflect similar colourings in these existing music video. The reason why we kept the could the same throughout was to symbolize that these arguments and good time

where happening at home as if they were on location and in

other places.

Mise En Scene- Colour

Here the colour is slightly colder to match the mood of the seen because she is being stood up by her boyfriend. This technique has been used in many song which have lyrics about love because they want to make it clear to their audience, how the characters are feeling emotionally

We developed this tint in our music video. Although its not a colour that you would usually find within this genre of music by developing this colour it made sure that we were being clear to our audience that it was in the pat,

Mise En Scene- Props

In the existing media product the two main characters communicate through writing notes to each other. We have

developed this idea to make it more currant and have used text messages to get the audience more involved with what is

happening by getting them to read. We found this to be a successful way of showing communication within the narrative and as a way of

communicating ideas to the viewers.

Mise En Scene- Props

In the existing music video Taylor 1 uses a hairbrush to pretend to sing with and this shows the silly and young side of her character which she is trying to relate to her audience with. In our music video we have also tried to portray a fun loving character and by using the guitar we not only reflect the genre of the music but of what the main characters personality might be like.

In this scene we used the prop of a remote in order to show that they might be relaxing and watching TV together. By using props you can portray ideas to

your viewers successfully.

This prop in the beginning scene is one of the most important prop in order to show clearly what is happening in the narrative. We can see that he is playing

Xbox and in that ignoring her. This is a traditional representation of conventions you may see in a music video with a male character.

Mise En Scene- Lighting

In this existing music video we can see that the light has been placed in on area to show what time its. In this bedroom scene you can see that we have also directed the light to make it seem like night. This has been done to match the narrative of the scene. She has been waiting a long time for her boyfriend and by making it night time the audience questions how long she has been waiting there for.

Like in scene above where light has been drawn from mainly one place we had the actors sit under a window which let natural light in so that we could see the facial expressions clearly. The reason why this was done because we were filming inside without any studio hard lighting so we wanted to make sure they were lit as best as possible.

Mise En Scene- Lighting

In this final scene in the Taylor Swift music video we can see that they have used hard lighting to make sure the viewer can clearly see the emotions on the actors faces and it has been done to highlight Taylor 1’s dress when she walks in.

We have also used hard lighting in our music video however we have done it on more than one occasion. We used hard lighting in the studio so that we could not only differ the narrative shots from the performance shots by location but also with lighting. We also wanted to make sure you could see our actors emotions clearly, therefore used hard lighting to do so when I was performing.

Mise En Scene- Costume

Above you can see how in the existing music video the characters are wearing casual clothes/pj’s in their homes. We reflected the same ideas of having casual outfits however we have more scenes in the house so we have more casual

costumes. We decided to associate casual clothing with the narrative scenes and more dressy clothes with performance to make the difference clear. When the actors are together they would wear casual clothes to show they are comfortable

around each other.

Mise En Scene- Costume

The only time we see the female character wearing clothes that aren’t classed as casual is

when she wears a dress to impress her boyfriend in the beginning scene. However he doesn’t

notice what she is wearing and from then on we only see casual clothes between them. This

could show that maybe they are two comfortable in their relationship and it’s a bit

boring.

In the Taylor Swift Music Video we see multiple changes in costume to appeal to their young female audience. In our music video we have developed this so that we have solid scenes of a variety of different costumes in order to keep our viewers interested in what is happening.
