EVALUATION QUESTION 5

HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/APPEAL TO YOUR AUDIENCE?PART 2: PRODUCTION CHOICES By Hannah Chyriwsky

Page 2: Evaluation question 5

FRONT COVERFor my front cover it was important that my model, costume and body language would be appealing to my audience. To make this happen I used a model that was a similar age to them because then it is easier for people to relate to them which fans want to do. For the costume I wanted them to wear something that people this age wear and it also fits in with the music genre conventions which make it clear to the audience that i have produced a pop music magazine. Also for my costume I used colours that would link in with my house style because this is a common thing seen on magazines. Then for the body language I wanted them to look happy and confident because this is the style teenagers would want to see in a pop artist, as not may have these qualities.

On the front cover I stuck the the conventions of a magazine and I also used the conventions of the music genre of pop. By using the conventions of a music magazine it makes it easier to make my magazine appealing to the audience because it has everything on the makes a magazine worth buying. Then by using genre conventions it is clear to the audience that it is a pop magazine, this is because of the colours, body language and the fonts. As they are bold colours which stand out and they are appealing to my target audience.

I used three different fonts on the front cover of my magazine which included: American Typewriter, Full House and Bodoni 72. I chose to use a bold font for my masthead and main sell line because they are meant to stand out against everything else on the page as the advertise the magazine. Then for the sell lines i used American Typewriter and Bodoni 72 because they are a clear and easy font to read which is vital on the front cover, because this content and persuade them to buy the magazine.

One of the changes that i made to my magazine after the rough cut was to add boxes behind the sell lines. The reason for this was so that the text would be easier to read because they aren’t over the main image. I also added a sell line about the posters that i add included in my contents page, because this could be appealing to parts of my target audience. The final change that I made to my magazine was adding leaves behind the Autumn sell line because it shows that it is an autumn issue

For my contents page just like for my model on the front cover i used people that are a similar age group to the people in my target audience. For the costume I wanted them to wear clothes that you would wear in the autumn, the reason for this is because the image is linked in with the sell line about autumn fashion. I also wanted them to look like they are having a good time which links in with the genre conventions of a pop magazine.

For my main title I used Full House, the reason for this is because it is the font that was used for my main title which meant that if i wanted to carry on the continuity I would use the same font for the title. Then for the rest of the text i used American Typewriter because it is clear to read of the paint splats.

For the genre conventions I used colours on my contents page that are associated with the pop genre. I also used an image that is linked in with the themes of magazines. This is because in pop music magazines it is common for the people photographed to look happy and innocent. Then for conventions I used the same font for my main title and I also added on subheadings, the reason for this is so that the content is categorized into parts that will appeal to certain people.

The only change that was made to my contents page was that i moved my autumn sell line next to the image. The reason for this is because the image goes with the sell line and in my rough cut this wasn’t clear as it wasn’t near the sell line.

I would say that my model is appropriate for the magazine because the article is about a singer that is 16 years old, so because of this I a person that is 16. Then for the clothes that they are wearing i would say that they aren’t colours that are associated with pop music but it is the style of the artist, so if people were to see her in the future they are the colours of clothes they might be wearing. Finally for the body language of my model it is appropriate for the magazine because she is having a fun time and it expresses her personality which could give her fans, as she is likeable.

For my double page spread I used the same fonts as I did for the other two pages. So to carry on the continuity the same font was used on my main title. Then so that the pull quote and questions would stand out I made the text bold because it makes it clear to the reader. I also used American Typewriter because it is an easy and clear font to read over a variety of different colours.

For the conventions of a double page spread i have stuck to them This is because I have included a pull quote, which is a common feature of a double page spread. I have also kept the main image to one page, the reason for this is because if people want to cut out the image they can as there is no text on the page. Finally the questions are in a different colour which makes it clear to the audience where the questions start, also in other pop magazines the questions in interviews are in a different colour to the answer.

One of the changes i made was adding paint splats behind the text. This was because it would then have a similar house style to the contents page as i have continued the theme throughout my magazine. Another change that was made to this page was adding a background to the main image. I did this because originally not all of the background colours were the same and the colour grey didn’t link in with the genre conventions. I also text wrapped my pull quote so that it doesn’t take up as much space and because it the looks more professional.
