In what ways does your media product use, develop or

challenge forms and conventions of real media products? • Madonna frozen , we looked at the way Madonna is

portrayal of as a solitary figure in the video ‘frozen’ the use of empty location, moving shots, dark flowing costume and individual performance lead to build an image of an isolated figure removed from reality. We wanted to use some of these conventions to represent Sean as a lonesome figure removed from reality. We used the studio with a black back drop as a location with no identifiable figures, moving shots to give a dreamlike quality and costume and performance to project Sean as a strong visual character.

• We looked at the aesthetic style of lead singer of placebo Brian Molko, Brian Molko has an almost gothic style, similar to Sean Seraphim. We wanted to use high contrast and heavy eye make to elaborate on this, we thought it would create a strong visual character and project an idea of an intriguing personality.

Genre

Sean has a very unusual sound which can not be defined in one genre I think somewhere inbertween rocky glam and pop best describes it. We wanted to create a visual skin to compliment his alternative sound. We filmed quirky shots focusing purely on Sean to create a strong link between visuals and music, creating a visual skin for the track instead of using a narrative based plot, like Todorov, Strauss or Propp. We choose to defy there theories as Sean’s music has no sense of narrative, we thought creating a visual skin which focuses on artist performance and personality would be the most effective.

I think by defying most conventions of a Rocky pop glam music video we have created a more personal video, I think focusing on portraying Sean’s personality though our video gave us originality and the opportunity to experiment instead of being tied down by conventions. We tried to project a very serial image for Sean which I think worked well with the resources available, by keeping our video simplistic we managed to keep a relatively professional look, I think if we tried to use long exposures and green screen it would look a lot rougher and not complimented Sean's personality in the way our video has done.

My name ancillary texts are my digipak and advert, I think they both strongly compliment my main product, though the use of;

• consistent house style ( I have used a constrained colour scheme in both my digipak and advert, I used only black and white images and red text for titles, I only used black and white images to compliment Sean out-fit in the video, Sean is seen only in black and white I wanted to emphases this by using only Black and white on my supporting texts to create a link between them and build a iconic style for Sean Seraphim as an artist).

• Solitary figure ( in our video Sean is portrayed as a solitary figure though the use of costume camerawork and performance, I wanted to use this in my supporting texts to strengthen the point I think by using long exposure images where the face is blurred I continue to represent as having a serial sense of mystery which is seen in his music. This is also built up to create an iconic style for Sean as an Artist).

What have I learnt from audience feedback?

I collected responses to our video using a questionnaire, I asked 6 questions to 10 people between the age of 17-25. The responses I received were;

• 50% which said they liked the video.

• 50% of people said the editing was the re-deeming feature.

• 100% said the visuals corresponded to the music

• 90% said the video suited the music genre.

• 60% said our video had a resemblance of a professional video.

From my audience research I have gained the views of my target audience of young people aged between 17-25, this is vital to see how my video is perceived my the public and not just people in my class in a similar situation to me. I think the results from my questionnaire corresponds well to the points outlined in my treatment and proposal, the majority of people I asked agreed that out video had a strong link between music and visuals, the video suited the music genre and that the video had a professional quality. This is very positive feedback and proves we have used media techniques and conveyed the codes and conventions of other music videos to give strong visual impact.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? We used a variety of media technologies in planning, filming and editing. We found some to be more effective

than others especially in the planning and filming stages.

The main constraints we had were with contact with the artist and filming. In the planning stages of our project we used mainly facebook and text to contact the artist we found this to be too un formal. The lapse nature of facebook and text proved we couldn’t make concrete commitments about times and queries planning filming dates

We did meet face to face with the artist which was far more effective, we found we got made solid plans and got a feel of what the artist and my group wanted.

If I was to do a similar project in the future I would use email and arrange regular meetings with the artists to discuss progress and development.

The technologies we used in the planning stages mainly consisted of web 2.0 media to do research and planning. The programmes we used were;

Facebook, slideshare, survey monkey, google search engine, ning, blogger, Myspace We found the attainable variety of web 2.0 an effective re-source to complete research tasks.

In the production stages we used; Hd cameras to film test footage City College studio to film Adobe premier to edit Photoshop to complete supporting texts. The main problem with the technologies used in production were the college camera in the studio, we attempted to

film using green screen to go with long exposures filmed previously although when we imported the footage into adobe after effects we found it to give a un desirable glow around the edges where we had cut, this gave a very armature aesthetic so we decided to re film using a plain black back drop and focus more on lighting and well composed shots.
