How did you use media technologies in the evaluation

stages?

Bill Topping

Page 2: Evaluation of evaluation

I used a range of media technologies in my evaluation stage. We were encourage to be as diverse as possible so I utilised powerpoint,

publisher, youtube, slideshare and soundcloud.

Question 1In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and

conventions of real media products?

For this I used the medium of Microsoft PowerPoint. This was the easiest way to do things as I could not only write what I felt but also illustrate it by print screening shots onto slides. This made it easier to describe what I was intending to do, what I was happy with and what I was not. It was simple to get my PowerPoint on my blog. Slide share makes it very easy to do so and even has a direct embed code for word press.

Question 2How effective is the combination of your main product and your ancillary texts?

To highlight how important the link is between a film (in my case a trailer) and the other products like magazines and posters I posted pictures of “Quantum of Solace” along side mine. I methodically went through pictures of the bond poster and an Empire magazine with Daniel Craig as bond on the front. In each of the images he was wearing the same top so this was an example of crossover which I was very keen to emulate in my work. I also used images of billboards and the sides of busses to show where I wanted my film to be publicized.

Question 3What have you learned from your audience feedback?

This involved participation from friends and peers. I posted videos on the blog of my friends watching the film as I felt it would be helpful to see the reaction of people who had never seen it before. This luckily went well as can be seen on the blog with laughter coming at the predicted moments thankfully. I then posted another video of my friend jack talking about what he saw. This was very helpful because it was proof that people enjoyed my trailer. The audience feedback came after the completed film so on reflection this could have been time more efficiently. However the audience feedback is important even if I cannot act upon it. If I was to make another film or another trailer then I would be able to take into account the advice I have received from others. In terms of my magazine and poster help from my teacher was much appreciated. I received guidance on what looked good and what didn’t. For example I had help when laying out my pictures as they were so poorly taken I had to conceal this.

Question 4How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning

and evaluation processes?

Question Four touches upon the use of media technologies in the research, planning and evaluation stages. For my own evaluation I created a film commentary which is on the Blog explaning what was behind the decisions I made and techniques I used. I found it easy to just write everything that I have done with print screens to illustrate my point further. I copied print screens of websites I have visited showing how useful they have been to me. One of the sites spoke exclusively about conventions of trailers while another touched heavily upon the technical aspects like camera angles and lighting. It was crucial that I clearly showed all I did in my research and I

feel I have done this well.
