CAMERA WORK AND EDITINGLong shot of the beach juxtaposed with an extreme close-up of me miming. We achieved this shot by altering the opacity on the extreme close-up, positioning the clip in the right corner, also by changing the brightness and contrast of the clip to allow the long shot to appear darker and the close-up to appear fresher and brighter.

We have used a long shot to enable the setting to be seen, a pan has been used to follow the subject (me) which shows my movement along the sand dunes. We have used slow motion to emphasize my emotions. Also we changed the clip to black and white instead of using colour, which gives the effect of this being in the past, and portrays that I am reminiscing . The brightness and contrast has been changed to make the subject (me) stand out more and this makes the clip more professional.

This clip is made with the use of a handheld camera, to give the effect of the past, I am acting as if the camera is my boyfriend, which is why we used the clip in black and white to show that the scene is in the past. The clip is an extreme close-up to show my emotions and facial expressions towards the audience. I suggested to the group that it should be really slow motioned, and the group agreed.

In the opening sequence , we start off with a close-up ;to portray our conventions of the genre ;of me playing the piano, then we cut to a medium shot. However you cannot see my face, but you can see me in the reflection of the mirror, we use a quick cut to the third shot which enables the audience to establish the setting and location. Which is a cluttered garage, which is a connotation of what's going on in my head – I am confused. Throughout the first scene i am revealed more and more, we slowly revealed the artist (me) as the shots go on. Also quick cuts are constantly used in the piano scenes. Sepia was used as Laura and I came to the decision that it looked classier and it compliments the setting and artist (me).

Here we start of with a medium shot of me, so the audience can still feel the emotion of my face and establish the surroundings (we had chosen the most flattering shots), this is followed by a quick cut to a close-up to show all expressions in my face, we made a slow fade out of the shot as the clip of the fire slowly fades in, and made the opacity of the facial shot extremely opaque to smooth the fade out. All these shots have been changed from colour to sepia as again we decided that it looked more classier with the location (Dunham Massey) and complimented the artist (me).

In this sequence the first clip is a medium shot, which has been shot in sepia. We have used this effect as with the surrounding and the actor (me) it compliments both images. Changing from scene to scene here we have used quick cuts. In the second clip we have me (the artist) on the bed, another medium shot. We decided to edit the lightness in this clip and made it darker. The third clip is a long shot and also an establishing shot, as we see the whole location, the contrast has been edited to make the colours more richer, also further on as we can see in clip four, we alter the opacity gradually as I get closer to the house. I completely disappear in the nest shot. I suggested ideas to Laura and she took all of them on, I assisted her and gave her my opinion on what to change on the editing and techniques to add for example the opacity. The video is very sucessful.

GENREPop/RnB Style of song suggests

the genre

CostumeStyle of CD coverArtist

Mostly performance based

We used concepts of a typical Pop/ RnB genre by using mostly performance, however snippets of conceptual elements and themes of narratives. The storyline is fragmented throughout our music video and shows a girl who has obviously had a break-up, and is reminiscing about her ex-boyfriend. It shows how she grows stronger and stronger throughout the video – she does not need a man.

IMAGE MANIPULATION

Here I have used the shadowing tool, the quick selection tool to select the eyes and lips. To change the colour I used the paint brush however I changed it to the airbrush effect to softly change the colours to pink and green. I have used this effect on my skin to give it the airbrush look. Also I have changed the contrast to have the hair and background darker than my face. I wanted the dominant contrast look, where the background is dark, however the main parts stand out in colour. Which I think makes the image look extremely striking to look at. Also I wanted to use direct mode of address as I think it looks more powerful.

Here I have manipulated the image by changing the whole image to black and white, I used the quick selection tool to select my dress, then edited the dress using the shadow tool. I used the darkest shadow. I clicked on the image and used the clone stamp tool to select the lightest colour on the image -a pale skin tone. I used the airbrush tool to allow my skin to look flawless and also light than the colour of my dress. Next I used the quick selection tool to select my hair and lips, I changed the colour by again using the clone stamp tool to a deep rouge red. A very effective image.

Within our music video we have used one character throughout the whole video, she is introduced straight away in the video in the piano scene. It shows the artist (me) reminiscing in parts, flash backs where the camera is her boyfriend - which are in black and white, and performance for example the piano and Dunham Massey. Her character grows stronger through the video and becomes more feisty, which is shown in lots of clips and different editing techniques. We were going to use a boy in this video, however he became in, so we had to improvise and use the camera as her memories with her boyfriend.

2. I have designed this as my CD cover, I have used lots of effects to achieve this look. This fits the genre as I think it looks Pop/RnB, it doesn’t look like a rock genre. It looks glamorous which can be in elements of Pop and RnB. I researched some of the convention in other Pop CD covers, for example the Lady Gaga CD covers (bottom left). As you can see the techniques are very similar, mainly facial images, lips and eyes stand out dramatically.
