In what ways does your media product use,

develop or challenge forms and conventions? Front cover• Forms-camerawork: I have used a close up

on my front cover, it was originally a medium close up but the background was to strong and I couldn’t use it on the cover unless I cropped it. Colours: strong colours similar to other magazines with the same target. Fonts: bold and modern which fits the genre of the magazine. Layout: similar by having a big picture and text overlapping the image. Therefore I have followed the forms, but I have changed it slightly because I use a close up on my cover instead of having a medium close up.

• Conventions- I have a master-head, cover lines and a team that fits my audience. The team shows on the front cover by having really strong colours on the picture on the front cover. Therefore I have followed the conventions.

Contents• Forms- Camerawork: I have to pictures on

my content page one of a boy and on of a light. The light picture is a long shot of a lamp taken from a worm-angle, the picture of the boy is taken from eye angle and is a medium close up. Font: I have a bold font on my content page as well and it works in a futuristic and a modern way. Colours: the strong colours on the dark background works really well on my magazine, by having this, my magazine fits the target audience much better. Layout: I have a pretty similar layout to other house/dance magazines like mixmag, dj mag and futuremusic. That is because the layout works really well and I don’t wont to make it more special then it has to be. There for my content page follows the forms of other house/dance music magazines by having everything it should have there in the same way as other magazines, but in a new twist .

• Conventions-I have followed the conventions from a general house/dance magazine by having everything I should have on my content page on there. Like page numbers, used the correct language, having a header, and kept the page to the team I already had.

DPS• Forms- Camerawork: on my DPS I have

three pictures, one of a boy, one of a lot of people partying and one of light blubs. The picture of the boy is a medium close up taken from an eye angle. The picture of the people partying is a long shot taken from a bird angle. The light blubs is a long shot taken without focus on the camera so you only see the source of the light, which I think is a petty cool twist. Language: the language is slang and I think it fits my target audience well, and compared to other similar magazines I would think it is pretty much the same type of language used. Fonts: The fonts on my DPS is bold and futuristic. Colours: strong and colourful on a black background which makes them even stronger. Layout: open and complex, I have only three images on my DPS and I think in the genre of music I have written my magazine in the often use more images. Therefore my DPS works with the forms of other similar magazines, except the numbers of pictures I have used.

• Conventions- I have followed the conventions by having page numbers, header, using the correct team, attitude and style. There fore my DPS is easy to read and nice to look at.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

• Age- my magazine fits for teenagers/young adults. They listen to the type of music that my magazine is about and they like the strong colours and they also understand the language I use on my magazine.

• Gender- I think that the genre on my magazine connects mostly to men, but it is nothing in my magazine excluding women. The stereotypical house fan is most likely a man.

• Ethnicity- The genre house is for both black and white people, but I think that since my magazine only have pictures of white people in it there is more likely that a white person would by it than a black.

• Class- I don’t think that class have anything to do with music, but if it has then I think house would be classified as a middle class type of genre.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I think a good publisher for my magazine could be Development Hell Limited, because they are a private

company which produces mixmag. Mixmag is a magazine which is quiet similar to my magazine

H.O.U.S.E. Therefore I know that they know how to get the target audience to read my magazine. Since they only publishes a few magazines they have more time to concern about my magazine and make sure that

everything is good.

Page 7: Evaluation

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Page 8: Evaluation

As you can see in my pitch (on the previous page) my magazine still fits quiet well to that audience research. I think my audience is 20 years old. They will most likely

be in the upper/middle class. Since my magazine is about house music and I use dark colours, I think my readers will be male because this attracts them more

than females. The bright colours and the futuristic style appeals more to young people and the house genre is

more popular among people in their 20’s.

Page 9: Evaluation

How did you attract/address your audience?

I think that I attracted my audience by using a modern and futuristic style, which applies to young readers. The header gives a signal

about which genre the magazine is about and makes it easy for the reader to get the right magazine. The strong colours and the bold fonts give the magazine a modern style, and the dark background

gives you a impression that the magazine fits mainly for boys. I believe that the language also is addressed to house fans and you

definitely could not find words like awesome, house beautiful, sansation etc. in any other magazine. Therefore you have to know

something about the genre before you can jump in to my magazine. I think that the pictures also address to my readers because they are in the environment that my readers are in. They are also from places

where they might want to go some day.

Could you have completed the project without

technology?

• I know that it would have been possible too complete the project without technology, but it would have taken much longer time. You save much time on using technology because it is easier to correct and edit.

What have you learned about technologies from the presses of constructing this products?

Page 11: Evaluation

What technology have I used:

• Word• Photoshop• Survey monkey• PowerPoint• Blogger• Slideshare• Fontwebsite• PDF• Web browsers• Blackboard• Twitter• JPEG

• Scanner• Printer• PC• Mac• iPhone• Camera• Magazines• Memory stick• Hard driver• SD card• Card reader

Page 12: Evaluation

What pieces of technology could you

have done without?

• Survey monkey• Word • Mac• JPEG• Printer• Scanner• iPhone• Memory stick• Printer

What kind of technology could you not done

without?

• PC• Photoshop• PowerPoint• Camera • Blogger

Page 13: Evaluation

What are the positives of using technology? • It takes a shorter amount of time to finish the project by

using technology, and your work is easier to correct. The auto-correct program on the computer makes it much easier to write correctly and takes away silly mistakes. It makes it harder to loose all your work and easy to get feedback.

What are the negatives of using technology? • When you first looses your work it makes it almost

impossible to save over again. By using a computer it is also easier to get distracted and don’t focus as much as you should on your work.

What have I learned?

• Blogger: I have learned how to blog, like forming the blog and posting stuff on to my blog.

• Mac: I used a mac to edit my photos and magazine pages therefore I had too learn how to use a mac (basics) and I have also learned some shortcuts on the mac.

• Photoshop: I have learned how to use Photoshop to edit photos in and to write, cut and paste stuff in to.

• Scanner: I have learned how to use a scanner. • Survey monkey: I have learned how to make a survey on

survey monkey. I have also learned where to look to get people to answer it.

• Blackboard and twitter

Page 15: Evaluation

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it

to the full product?

I have learned a lot form this project. Like using survey monkey which is a rally good site to make a survey and get a lot of answers from quickly, but you have to publish your survey on places where you know that people might want to answer though. Photo shop is a great place to edit your photos in, and edit them further in to a magazine. I have learned how to use it and figured out where the edit buttons are, how to change colours, tones and put in details in pictures and on the magazine page. I had never used blogger before I started whit this project, and I still think I have much to learn on blogger, but I have figured out how to post things and how to pus in pictures. So I do not think it is necessary to know more for this project.
