Dear Friends of EuNC, November is that time of the year when everyone in the Nazarene family is reminded that we are to be thankful. But more than a denominational emphasis, this should be our attitude as Christians. Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 5:18: “Give thanks in everything; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.” (LEB). Being thankful is an important attitude for all of us: it teaches us obedience as we learn to obey His commandment to give thanks independently from circumstances; it creates in us a sense of dependency as we recognize that all we are and have come from God; it teaches us humbleness as we realize that it’s not all about us, but about God; and it changes our perspective on things as we realize God’s perspective on the things that happen to us. At EuNC, we are also thankful for God’s many blessings throughout the year and we want to share some of them with you and give you the opportunity to rejoice and give thanks to God with us for His many mercies upon us. Dear Friends of EuNC,

November is that time of the year when everyone in the Nazarene family is reminded that we are to be thankful.

Transformed... from the Inside Out: The emphasis

of the 2014 Graduation and Banquet in Portugal

The Learning Centre celebration started on 4 October with the graduation ceremony of three students with the Certificate of Spiritual Formation that took place in the facilities of the Lisbon Church of the Nazarene. The Lord was praised for the opportunities and strengths given to the students, as well as for their response in their years of study, which made this an important milestone for them, their colleagues and the Learning Centre in Portugal. Rector Klaus Arnold presented the diplomas and the local faculty participated actively in the event. Alina Ligeiro and Flávio Taela will continue their studies to complete their Diploma in Christian Ministry, and Priscila Guevara has been accepted to do her Master’s degree at Nazarene Theological College, in Manchester. The presence of the whole Leadership Team (Klaus and Martina Arnold, Alan Schrock, and Raquel Pereira) turned the event into an even more special occasion.

The banquet lunch that followed took place in a restaurant nearby the Tagus River in Lisbon. As people entered the dining room they were surprised by popcorn decoration all around. Popcorn was a reminder of the theme: transformation (Rom. 12:2). As one of the features of EuNC’s mission, transformation into Christlikeness, a process that occurs from the inside out (much like the corn into popcorn), is the goal of the learning community involved in theological education. Students, faculty, pastors and guest had the opportunity to hear this message being conveyed as the Rector spoke, but also as the three graduates shared about how that transformation has occurred in their lives. Beyond the good and typical Portuguese food, the participants were blessed with live music sung and played by Christian musicians, Rute and Ruben Alves. The Bereah award was presented to Priscila, who had the best grades during the last Academic Year. Looking into the future the courses for next academic year were presented, and all the students were given a “popcorn T-shirt” with the theme and were prayed for so that they will continue to be transformed from the inside out.

A journey of 4 years has come to an end for 6 students as a learning community. These years were full of great learning opportunities that brought us very close to one another: the monthly 2-day weekend classes, the intensive classes each semester, the monthly mentoring sessions, group projects, great fellowship, great coffee breaks, field trips, practicum, internship, and annual conferences. Students will even need to say goodbye to Moodle as their online friend – a place of great and deep discussions and debates that have formed all of us!

The Wesleyan Theology Alliance supervised and supported the EuNC education in Budapest. Students have been formed by both the

international faculty and student body of EuNC and the interdenominational nature of our Learning Center as we work together now as eight Wesleyan denominations. We thank EuNC's leadership for helping us in providing quality education and for supporting us in so many different ways. It was great to have Rector Klaus and Martina Arnold and the regional education coordinator, John Haines, with us for this celebration. The night before graduation,

we had a special banquet dinner and the graduation ceremony was held during the Theology Conference Day ('Big World, Small Church' – The Challenges of Church Planting and Church Development in the 21st Century Hungarian Context) where one of the papers was presented by the Rector.

The graduates that we celebrated were: Zoltán Benedek, Annabella Benedekné Cséki, Imre Ecsedi, Rudolf Gusztin, Katalin Schäfer. And Gyula Szikszay a non-degree student.

EuNC is pleased to present two new videos on our website. The first was produced to highlight some of the changes at EuNC over the last few years and to discuss our strategy for the future. This has English as its base audio language but has subtitles available in Albanian, Armenian, Bulgarian, English, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Ukrainian. To turn on the

subtitles for a particular language, make sure you click on the “CC” button near the bottom of the video frame. The second video is the winner of our 2014 EuNC video contest and was produced by the Hungary Learning Centre. It is available in Hungarian with English subtitles. Please tell others about them so they can learn more about EuNC!

A Word from the RectorBefore the beginning of the Advent and Christmas season, it is good to reflect and give thanks for all the blessings received. European Nazarene College is thankful for the students, who are all part-time students and involved in ministry and other work – for their faithful studies. Thanks go out to our faculty – for most of whom teaching is an additional ministry to other important work for the Lord. We thank God for the many supporters and friends for your prayers and gifts. Last but not least, we are thankful to God for his guidance and many blessings this year. God is the foundation, the centre and the focus point of our ministry – we glorify and praise the triune God we serve.

In Christ,

Klaus Arnold, Rector
