Living in the U.S.

Page 19: ESL CLASS PROJECT Mitsuyo Batula From Japan Nagoya city.

First of all, the “honeymoon”stage

Page 20: ESL CLASS PROJECT Mitsuyo Batula From Japan Nagoya city.

Everything seems new, quaint and novel.

Page 21: ESL CLASS PROJECT Mitsuyo Batula From Japan Nagoya city.

The food, the surroundings, the buildings.

Page 22: ESL CLASS PROJECT Mitsuyo Batula From Japan Nagoya city.

And it produces feeling of euphoria, a desire to look around, to experiment, to explore.

Page 23: ESL CLASS PROJECT Mitsuyo Batula From Japan Nagoya city.

The next stage is the “horror” stage.

Real life

Where the newness wears off and you see the country in a different light and often begin to criticize the country, the life and the values of the people.

It didn't go as I expected in the U.S. and then I just felt lonesome and impatient.

Page 30: ESL CLASS PROJECT Mitsuyo Batula From Japan Nagoya city.

Especially it was dark with rain every day, so America was cool to me.

Page 31: ESL CLASS PROJECT Mitsuyo Batula From Japan Nagoya city.

The laws and idiom

Page 32: ESL CLASS PROJECT Mitsuyo Batula From Japan Nagoya city.

I feel like a prisoner

Page 33: ESL CLASS PROJECT Mitsuyo Batula From Japan Nagoya city.

Nostalgic, tired, confused.

Page 34: ESL CLASS PROJECT Mitsuyo Batula From Japan Nagoya city.

The next stage, is the “humor” stage.

Page 35: ESL CLASS PROJECT Mitsuyo Batula From Japan Nagoya city.

Where the people begin to reflect back and laugh at their mistakes in the earlier stages.

Page 36: ESL CLASS PROJECT Mitsuyo Batula From Japan Nagoya city.

When I came to the railroad crossing, I thought that I had to stop every time. When I did, the driver behind me beeped the horn. I was so ashamed because nobody stops before crossing the railroad crossing.

Page 37: ESL CLASS PROJECT Mitsuyo Batula From Japan Nagoya city.

And the final stage.

Page 38: ESL CLASS PROJECT Mitsuyo Batula From Japan Nagoya city.

Is “Home” stage where people begin to feel at home, enjoy living in that foreign country.

We don’t have a picture for this because everybody here can show this.

Page 39: ESL CLASS PROJECT Mitsuyo Batula From Japan Nagoya city.

This kind of feeling is not only for the immigrants, it’s for all the people who need to change their habits, customs, school, city, house, etc…
